  1. Last Update for 2016! Alright before 2016 ends I might as well give a little update. Have had any word from the mechanic about a new gearbox as of yet. Hopefully next year a new gearbox is sourced. Some goodies have been ordered from the U.S. to be installed next year. Just a little hint, they're from Monkey Wrench Racing. The package is currently in the process of coming to Australia and is currently in Dubai. I'm also currently working on doing black housing headlights. I'm attempting to remove the old black paint as it was peeling badly for a fresh new coat but haven't had any success. If anyone knows anything that removes paint of plastic without destroying the plastic, please let me know. I gave the car its last wash for 2016 and at a car wash for once. Usually don't go to them too often but I thought why not for the last wash of the year. Here are some shots the next morning after the wash. This is the new gear knob I installed a month or two ago. Not to everyone's taste but I enjoy having the shifter at a higher level for now. Wishing everyone a safe and happy New Year!
  2. IMO they're not the worst gearbox in the world, the ratios are a bit odd for some gears but it's a real shame that the gearbox can't stand up to the way the engine is used. At the moment I have a mechanic looking for a new one that I can rebuild. The price from Toyota seems fairly standard and to be expected to be honest. 2ZZ's did have an auto option in some markets too, not only on the Celica but the Corolla too.
  3. Well 3rd and 4th are weakest gears in the C64 box from what I've been reading it doesn't surprise me it's the worst. I do tend to give 3rd a bit of grief. Well my new gear knob has arrived and has been installed so that's one thing to check off now.
  4. Sounds like this could be a diff issue. Does it make the sound when not in gear rolling as well? Does it also crunch any gears?
  5. Has been a while since I've updated my thread. As of recently I have refitted the driver side guard liner as it came out while going down the 1/4 mile. Just over the weekend I also installed a dash cam which is definitely paying off as of recently. Sadly, my Corolla has fallen victim the crunching gears and gearbox noises. I have taken it to a mechanic shop (owner used to work for Toyota for quite sometime, safe to say he is not so surprised to see a Sportivo with gearbox issues). I discovered a leak from the gearbox case and also a leak from the oil pressure sensor or possibly the sump. He definitely said the gearbox would need a rebuild, also stating that second and third gear been the worst affected gears. I'm awaiting a quote at the moment for a rebuild. Other then that, the car has been running great. I have a few more things before I can finally just relax and enjoy the car. To do list: - Black housing head lights - Installation of whiteline rear sway bar - New gear knob and other small bit here and there. Will update when I can!
  6. Generally the E120 rally cars didn't have overly crazy spoilers which you're referring too. Here's one of the 2005 shaped rally cars, the spoiler is the TTE spoiler. Can try your luck on eBay, mostly found over in Europe these days.
  7. Great stuff Bill! Hopefully we can all see who well it does down the strip again soon!
  8. Seen a Celica on carsales with 35x xxx kms and a pre face lift Sportivo with 315 xxx kms.
  9. I'm experiencing the same sort of issue. I haven't yet been able to find the source yet but I have the same symptoms as you.
  10. Toyota head units, especially GPS ones are not exactly cheap. Aftermarket ones do have the GPS capabilities but some do have issues though from what I've heard.
  11. I'm mirin hard man! Lights look mint. Good work, car is looking nice.
  12. Update time. So 2 weeks ago I finished the engine cover. Nothing show car spec, I'll say it's fairly rough in a lot of spots, but definitely happy with the colour. I let it cure over the week and put on last weekend. High temperature base coat. Final layers of high temperature colour. Finish product, the the letters and Toyota symbol were masked off to keep them silver. Engine cover on Finally got to wash the car after a few weeks of unpredictable NSW weather. I also found a brand new set of 4 genuine floor mats to replace the old worn ones.
  13. Getting the rear suspension out can be a pain, mainly just because you have move a lot of things out of the way to access the top bolts. I removed my old suspension for coilover setup and the whole setup was swapped over in around 3 hours with the help of a mate.
  14. Be careful with bonnet protectors. Had one on mine and it scratched the paint where the mount points are. A suggestion from a mate was to get some clear wrap and wrap the bonnet to stop it from it wrecking the paint.
  15. Seems to be a good price for the kms, can always get it down. Just do the usual checks in person. Keep a keen on eye on sticky gears and anything in general with the gearbox.
  16. Welcome mate! With the gearbox, just don't use the gears to slow down or downshift into low gears at high speeds i.e. 80km/h in 5th then into 2nd. The boxes aren't the strongest ever and will not last if you do that. Any issues changing in lift from 1st to 2nd can be solved with a master cylinder clutch adjustment, if the clutch isn't worn down. PM me if you need any help mate.
  17. Just a little update, finally getting around to doing the smaller projects. Began preparing a second engine cover I bought last year for it's new look. This is the first time I'm prepping and painting something without any help so I'm not expecting anything over the top but I'll be happy that I gave it ago. Will keep updates coming.
  18. Best to give the engine bay a nice clean, remove any of the oil and residue. The start to monitor where the leak is coming from there. Obviously you'll be looking more towards the drivers side where the water pump sits. Just to clarify, it's an oil leak not a coolant leak?
  19. I can agree with that Trent, although CES and/or porting headers is definitely a cheaper option then the PPE header. A lot of Sydney Sportivo owners go for the Wildcat or Hurricane headers, which give it a nice rumble but I've heard that many stories of them cracking after a year or so, and they cost more then porting generally, well the Hurricanes do.
  20. Also consider tyres, tyre pressure, suspension setup when drag racing. Changing some of those factors can lead to faster times as well. I personally don't think twin loops are too restrictive on a standard internal engine.
  21. Yeap, those are the ones man. In all honesty, you don't see them so it's not worth getting if you're only after the look. It does keep the engine bay cooler from what I've been reading. Shoot CES an email and they'll be able to help you out.
  22. Cheers for that mate! Never thought of that. With the headers, I just emailed them about it stating I lived out of QLD and wanted to do the exchange. They got an invoice ready, I paid them and a week later the headers were at my door. Once you get your old ones out, send them back to them and they will also return the $200 holding fee in case you don't follow through with the trade. I definitely highly recommend ported headers.
  23. Update time. So in the last few weeks, the Sportivo has had a fair bit of work completed. Due to having time off work, I thought it would be the best time to get a lot of the work done so I can enjoy it. New items since my previous update include the install of new engine mounts, Exedy HD clutch with the OEM flywheel machined and a full exhaust system. The exhaust system is made up starting with CES ported headers, 100 cell high flow cat, 2.5" piping, 2 resonators and a single tip varex muffler. It is also made with mild steel and has been completely painted with high temp black paint. It has a really nice tone and is loud in lift and moderately loud when not in lift. Bonus with the varex is that it basically sounds as quiet as stock when closed, so I won't be annoying any neighbours too soon. As noted on here many times, I'd definitely recommend porting or CES ported headers to anyone. The gains are quite noticeable, not power wise (although there are proven gains all over the internet for power) but the low and mid range improvements are evident. Doesn't need to be revved out as much to get the car up to speed. I live in NSW (CES are based in QLD) and had the headers at my door a week after payment and have been satisfied with the work and service from CES. I highly recommend them! Here some comparisons between stock and ported. Beginning of the runners Collector I got the headers painted in high temp black as apposed to the coating, which did result in a cheaper price. I also went with the exchange and have since sent my headers to CES. Runx lights at night Interior lighting in the late afternoon and night Here are the latest pictures of the Sportivo, not all too much has changed since the last update. I'd say that the car is in the late stages of been completed. There's just a few things I'd like to do to finish it off. But who knows, there could be a few more things that come up that I'll want I'll be keeping my thread updated.
  24. The idea of a twin loop, from what I understand, is to make the exhaust gases flow through the muffler twice to make the exhaust quieter without reducing flow. Depending on brand some twin loops can flow fairly well. In my experience, I had one on my last car, 98 Honda Prelude VTi-R and it didn't really make it all too quiet compared to other ones. But it didn't feel to restricted either.
