  1. The engine is fine to take to the rev limiter, I mean it's there for a reason after all. If you sit on it for a long time constantly, I'd say you just need to service the engine more regularly. The extended pushrod is like an insurance basically, even if you're not crunching gears or anything it's a cheap mod that has little to no side effects. I've had mine in for around 3 years or so and never had a single problem since.
  2. Honestly mate, to begin with the C series line of gearboxes aren't exactly strong but when handling the sort of power the 2ZZ puts it out, it shouldn't really be an issue. Common causes of failure are flat shifting and quicking shifting which will destroy the synchro's and cause crunching. Of all things to happen, this would be the best as the synchromesh themselves aren't as expensive as replacing an entire gear. Another common cause for failure is axle tramping/hopping. Usually bad engine mounts make this a lot worse and from what I've seen over the years, that can cause gearboxes a lot of stress and destroy them. Speaking from experience, I've owned my Sportivo for almost 6 years. I've rebuilt the gearbox and had to replace a 6th gear as well. The problems with them as honestly worsened by human error. I made the mistake of buying one with a bad and worsening 2nd gear synchro and driving it in the early days like I did didn't help 3rd and 4th gear synchro's either so I paid the price and had them replaced. All these people that buy multiple Sportivo's and complain about the gearboxes cruching or say they're rubbish are usually the ones that spend every minute of the day on limiter and flat changing LOL. The MWR carbon lined synchro's are largely untested here, I don't think they're worth it IMHO. I've seen a whole heap of mixed reviews when it comes to carbon lined synchro's, especially with a lot of the Honda guys using them around the world. A few too many "Look what happend to my synchro's" pictures and videos really put me off them. Can't go wrong with OEM synchro's. Some preventative measures you can take other than having mechanical sympathy: - Invest in good gearbox oil! (I use Royal Purple Synchromax. Have never crunched a single gear and it's perfect when cold too. It is pricey but well worth it) - Invest in some good engine mounts if yours are worn out (Brand new OEM if you don't want vibrations, BRD solid engine mount inserts if you want a solid upgrade) - Extended pushrod (this basically ensures that the slave cylinder fully engages and disengages the clutch and has solved a heap of gear crunching issues) - Clutch pedal master adjustment (A lot of gear crunching in the early days of the Sportivo's realease was because of the master cylinder been out of adjustment and not fully engaging and disengaging the clutch. There's a DIY in the forum on how this can be done)
  3. I'm with Tony on this one, definitely a worth while purchase. In all honesty when it rains, it pays off big time. I do need to re-do my windows when I have the time since when I first applied it, I did all my windows and it made rain driving awesome. I hardly ever used my wipers since the water would just bead off the windscreen. It's one of those little things I once looked over that make a nice change to the driving experience. On a side note, it does also make the glass a lot easier to clean too.
  4. When I applied following a video I found after I cleaned the windscreen (apply 1 coat, wipe off with separate towel, apply a 2nd coat after 30 minutes, wipe off with a separate towel again) I found that it honestly lasted me almost a year in all honesty. My car is parked outside all the time but this was when I was parking in a covered car park while I worked so I think it helped especially in the hotter months. I'm due to do it again but I have a heap of nasty water marks on the windows I need to remove first.
  5. Don't know how I missed this but what an awesome post! Thanks for sharing Tony. Gave me a heap of ideas for new products to try when I need to stock up. I think clean and beading glass is totally underrated. I used the RainX cleaner and water repellent a very long time ago I can definitely say driving in wet conditions is awesome, I hardly ever needed to use my wipers on highways and motorways.
  6. Thanks Tony, I went for the look as my old Prelude had the same styling so I wanted to bring that across and I'm super happy with how it turned out. I've had them for sometime now actually, I think around late September 2017 I had them installed. Definitely one of the best interior mods for a sportivo in my opinion. I was really over the lack of comfort and support from the stock seats and went for Evo Recaro's as they're a tad bit wider compared to say and SR3/4 from the Integra Type R's but still just as supportive and comfortable.
  7. Update time. Not all too much new this time around. I'm quite happy with the Sportivo as is and just enjoying it for what it is now which I didn't think would be possible but after the last few changes, my car has finally turned out better than I ever thought back in 2015 when I bought it. Since my last update I've had one minor change in the interior with a new gear knob and for once I've finally found one that has a great feel and looks the goods too after going through 2 or 3 in the past. This is the RHI Design tear drop style gear knob. It's CNC billet aluminum and weighs roughly 130g, a bit less than the stock gearknob I've kept for the most part. Despite the difference in weight, it feels great in hand and still feels precise when changing gears. Only draw back I guess is the fact it is metal it does get quite cold/hot depending on the temperature so I'll have to cover it this summer. Very happy with the purchase otherwise. Other than that, with the new lockdown restrictions coming in again over the weekend, I took some time when I was finally free to give the interior a quick clean since it was in dire need for a long time. Also gave the car another maintenance wash after some mixed weather over the last couple of weeks. Along with the wash I also applied the last of the Bowden's Happy Ending to finish the bottle. At the moment there's a few little things to do here and there. I'm still due to take the recaro's out and give them a nice steam clean and treatment so I may end up doing this once the warmer weather arrives again. I'm also looking into replacing a foglight as the passenger side one appears to have a leaky seal, if I end up sourcing the leak I may just seal it up my self but I'll have to see. The indicator stalk likely needs replacing as when I indicate my high beams tend to come on at the same time too which gets quite annoying so that'll be on the cards soon. I need to eventually get a center interior brake light to make my new wing setup legal. I have yet to have trouble so far (TOUCH WOOD) but I really should get it done at some point once I find the right parts. Stay tuned.
  8. The 2ZZ is more than capable of reaching 400000+ kms, it's generally human error that kills them. As long as you service it regularly you'll have no issues. Hitting lift once or twice isn't really thrashing to be honest, well within what the engine was designed for.
  9. I've tried eBay a few times but haven't seen many as you said. Agreed, it's a bit of a long shot but worth a try. Thanks Tony [emoji846] Sent from my SM-G973F using Tapatalk
  10. Hey TOCA, Looking to purchase a 2005 Corolla Sportivo sales brochure. Have been searching for a few years now but haven't struck any luck. Shoot me a PM with some images and price if your willing to part ways with your brochure. Thanks!
  11. 13. ZZE's in particular should be illuminated once the key is put into accessories and beyond. When the lights are turned on, it will illuminate other controls on the center console 🙂
  14. The clock should have illumination. I believe the bulb is a T5 if your one is missing.
  15. Look at it from underneath but I think I've confused myself in terms of which way I was turning in all honesty. I think I'll leave it for now until I do my next change and see how I go.
  16. No oil filter relocation kit but, I'll note down next time I service which way I spin to remove it. I mean I feel like I did in the opposite from the norm but I'm not leaking any oil or anything either. I'm having 2nd thoughts whether I did it the way I previously posted 😬
  17. I thought the same since I couldn't quite remember and it turned out to wrong. Luckily it only resulted in a destroyed used oil filter.
  18. Well as it turns out, my oil filters thread is revered threaded and I had completely forgotten seeing as I hadn't done one for so long. Now I definitely know which was 🤣 Thanks a lot Tony! Also have some new product to test eventually which is another spray on sealant which should hopefully last a bit longer than the Happy Ending product I use currently.
  19. Nothing relatively new this time around. Finally got around to doing my oil change over the weekend. I'd last done one last November and only travelled just over 6000 kms since then which is a lot lower than what I've usually done over the last few years. I had a massive, massive brain fart and completely forgot which way to remove the oil filter so the turn around time was about 4x longer than normal since I had turned it the wrong way and eventually my mates came around with some tools and found when we actually did it the right way, it came off straight away. Safe to safe the oil filter was destroyed but there were no issues with the thread thankfully. Since the weather was pretty nice this weekend I gave the car a wash a long with a top up of the seal coating for the entire car along with have done another CMX treat to the headlights alone the day before since they begun feeling a little grippy again. So far no major issues to report. I did have a few odd start ups here and there with the new Adaptronic setup where it seems to not be able to get the cold idle sorted but after a few short rev blips it corrects itself. This doesn't happen very often so I don't think it's anything major. Headlights are still nicely sealed, have yet to see any evidence that they are leaking or fogging up since I added sealant a few weeks ago. Thankfully I got it done seeing as the weather is slowly getting cooler and cooler. Stay tuned.
  20. Thanks a lot Tony, really appreciate it! May as well since I can share my build as well as getting to look back at the build too. I've found CMX to be quite slick on the headlights, I mean it feels just as slick as the Bowden's spray sealants I've used so I'm pretty happy with it. I have looked into NV Jet and I recently got some CarPro HydrO2 finishing foam which I'll be testing soon once my Bowden's supply is finished 🙂 I'm also thinking of getting the NV Snow Foam at some point too, I've heard some great things about it and it seems pretty bang on for price per liter. Cheers!
  21. Minor updates. Nothing all to new coming at the moment, just enjoying the experience with the new setup which I'm getting used too. No major issues so far with the Adaptronic, mostly just minor fine tuning over time will fix it but it runs like a dream. Haven't done a lot long distance driving lately but hopefully in the coming few weeks and life settles a bit that should change again. The headlights are still great, have had plenty of cold nights and no moisture inside! This weekends task is likely an oil change since I'm due for one. If I have some time I may even try to clean up the engine bay a bit but we'll see how we go. Gave the car a quick wash yesterday as I had a weekend away and earlier in the week Sydney got some dirty rain briefly one morning leaving a horrid layer of dirt all over the car. I did hit it with hose to remove some of it but most of it remained until yesterday. Also re-coated the headlights with CMX as they felt a little more grippy than I'd like so at least there's a nice layer of protection on them until the next top up. Stay tuned for more.
