  1. If you're gonna go a stezza, get a really good set of front splits mate. You can either make some custom door pods for the 6.5 inch speakers, or get some replacement 4 inch speakers. Splits will really help with the treble, I installed my tweeters in the A-pillar in the door frame, the sound quality is amazing. The front speakers are your MAIN speakers. You'll be hearing them more than the rears if they're balanced out. If you can, buy some fronts that can handle 90w RMS or better, not PMPO... you want RMS. If the speaker box doesn't say the RMS value, then they prob not worth getting. 6 x 9s are speakers that "fill" the rest of the car. The HU normally only pumps out 50w PMPO, and normally you'd need an amp to run the speakers, but they'll run beautifully on a good HU. If you want a list of cosmetic and appearance mods for the Camma, let me know mate. I think I've seen every trick in the book for these cars :P
  2. Also... you might wanna see if the fan cuts in when you turn the A/C on?
  3. I had a similar problem with mine only a few months ago... found that the radiator fan wasn't spinning like it should be (you could actually grab it). It'd heat up on idle, but drop back to 1/2 way when driving. I took it to the Mechanic... got him to check it out, showed him the problem and everything... he thought maybe something got caught in a sensor or something like that, or that the thermostat was stuffed. I ended up goin back in the arvo... asking what the problem was, and he said at that time, he couldn't fault it. The fan was goin nuts like it should be and everything was back to normal... I've never had the fault come back since. I asked a few people... I found that maybe, just maybe that the power steering fluid might have something to do with this, as it passes through a welsh plug on the radiator fan. Maybe the fluid is old, not doing it's job or something like that, and could cause the problem? Either way... that's another place to check mate.
  4. I woudn't imagine anything to fail after 4 years, but anything's possible. Dodgy fuel could catch up in the filter for all I know??
  5. Isn't the IAC connected to the TB anyway mate? Mine is... you have the hose connected before the butterfly clip though.
  6. Yeah, you can get the A & B kits from Carmate... I think there is another site, but not too sure. You use the T10 globes x 4 for the main lights in the gauge, and the T5 globes for things like O/D off, Brake light, Engine... etc etc. I replaced the 4 x T10 globes and they came up mint. There's a T5 globe you'd need to get that covers the 0km-20km area on the speedo, and that's pretty much it.
  7. Your original post said you wanted to modify your car... most others are saying to change your car straight up. Our club and TOCAU are friends in a way... whenever we have cruises, we ask any from TOCAU to join in, and vice versa. And yeah... honestly, your car won't hold it's value if you mod it, but that's the same with any car mate.
  8. Andrew, Ultimately, what you want to do to your Camry is up to you. I know a few guys from our Camry club that have poured tens of thousands of dollars into their car... and ya know what? They're off the charts! They're proper show cars and the amount of heads that turn when you see them is great! I've seen turboed Camrys, Supercharged Camrys... kitted and everything. The nicest mods you can do straight up, is to make everything look new. I've done a lot of cosmetic mods to mine... - red/clear tail lights - custom made front clear indicators - clear side indicators - meshed front bumper - colour coded windscreen wipers - LED light number plates - Interior LED light in ceiling - Custom made black fabric door panels - Blue dash lights - Sound system... prob few other things At the end of the day, if you're passionate about your car, the actual value of the car doesn't matter. When a good mate of mine pours in North of 30k into his 89 Camry, you know that what the resell value doesn't matter! Hahaha
  9. So... Adam... When you gonna gimme a Supercharger and come over and fit it champ? Supercharged 3VZ FTW!!
  10. Quick question... What engine is it?
  11. The V6s love decent fuel. Considering 95 Oct from Shell is under $1 a litre, I'm gonna run the petrol right down and chuck in some Vpower. I find Vpower is by far the best for my engine. I used it for 2 years straight until the fuel prices went through the roof. Regardless of what others may say - I can notice a difference between average fuel and good fuel.
  12. I ended up buying special connectors (2mm x 15mm) flat spade connectors and inserting them into the stock wiring loom. Found this out from the sound system installers at Wow Sight & Sound. No cables cut... only need to buy the clips (lookin a couple of bucks). You'd only need to know constant power, accessories, speakers... that's it right? lol, haven't had to install these for a while now.
  13. I used the injector cleaner... cleans up the injectors very well (runs a bit rough for a few days, but meh). It's quite possible that it's a coincidence that your battery change has anything to do with it. As mentioned, you either have an injector problem, maybe spark plugs/leads have an issue (I don't see how it would be this problem due to the fact that the problem would be happening regardless of the temp). Fuel filter is a slight possibility...
  14. Wtf's a Vienta Sports? That like the Touring series? If you can get custom made extractors for the 3VZ (maybe around the 1k mark made and fitted) with possibly 2.25 or 2.5 inch exhaust all the way through... possible High flow cat, decent twin tip exhaust which can hold back pressure good... that'd definitely help. Next... Port and Polish. Prob set back 700 bucks or so, maybe more... best bang for your buck. Possible 20kw boost if done properly, maybe more power. If you can... source a TRD Supercharger that were used on the 1MZ engines. They're able to be fitted to the 3VZs with a little modifications here and there. I'm not sure to the extent on what needs to be changed exactly, but it has been done before. You'd be looking around an extra 50kw gain?? Can't confirm that. The cheapest performance enhancer... TLC. If you run her on a few good tanks of Premium 98 Oct, with some injector cleaner... tyre pressures looked after, some decent oil... replace fuel filter... you'll notice a slight difference. You might wanna disconnect the battery to reset your ECU and drive around like a maniac for the ECU to re-learn your driving style and stuff too. There's a few mods you can do to the AFM, as this controls your Air & Fuel Mix (lol). The 3VZs really do open up at around 4k RPM, which the AFM controls, and there's a little device in the AFM that you can change somehow that'll make the AFM seem that it's always going to give you that extra bit of power. If need any further info, PM me (not always on this forum, normally on Auscam) or reply... see what I can help out with. Cheers!
  15. I never take the car off ECT... don't need the power :P LOL But yeah... as everyone's mentioned, O/D is 4th gear... best to use O/D if you're cruising anything over 60km/h. You'll find it won't kick in til the engine's warmed up, and normally won't change to 4th until you hit 70km/h anyway. Once it's warm, it'll drop into 4th at 60-65km/h and rpm will be around 1500. They REALLY need a 5th gear for anything over 100km/h... I don't like travelling at 3k rpm at 110 :( the 5 speed manual does the same rpm at 110 too!! Meh
  16. Man... heaps low kms!! Great that you got that for FREE lol :P
  17. As long as the diameter of your new rims and tyres matches the stock... you're all legal mate. You'd be on what now? 205 x 65 R14?? I reckon you'd be able to go 205 or 215 x 40 R17s... when you lower it, you may have to get the guards rolled under possibly. Hit up Greg... he's spent A LOT of money on his car... in and out of shops!! lol... (aka 89Camry)
  18. I know you can get the horn and stuff to make the beeping noise by programming the car to do so? Davey from Auscam did it... I don't remember the procedure, but it works!
  19. I woulda have thought the HU would have provided better audio from the stocko HU? The speakers normally don't make much difference to be quite honest, not unless you're amping them anyway. I ended up using the stocko speaker mounts on my new speakers and pop riveted them onto the speaker... works beautifully. Plenty of bass when I got them, but I was getting the same quality from the stockos... comes down to your HU. I currently have a sub with the amp... so there's no way I'm going back to "bass" from the speakers!
  20. I know of someone selling 17 inch mags to suit a Camry in Perth area... her name is Hailey. She can be found on www.auscam.org, her nickname is "trdwanab".
  21. Doin awesome mate, how's the turbo coming along?? Campbell would be able to provide some nifty info on turboing a 5SFE... "been there, done that" LOL!
  22. Does an OBDII Reader work on OBDI systems??
  23. I'm more of a person who goes and pulls it off the car, rather than going through millions of pages and finding the correct part :P Sounds like fun mate. Spose you can "advise" the local Yota shop
  24. Get the parts yourself. 1. Get a centre console from a Toyota wrecker... The Touring one has the grooves in the compartment for CDs too :) 2. Dash lights can easily be replaced by yourself. It's as simple as taking the dash cluster out and replacing the T10 bulbs. There's a writeup on a few Camry forums on how to pull the dash out. Currently I'm running LEDs in Sky Blue :P... Aircon ones aren't as easy... but I've seen it done before on a few cars that my mates own. 3. Once again... wreckers. Why go to Toyota, who will charge like a wounded bull, when you can find parts from a wrecker for a fraction of the price?
  25. Does it idle ok? What about cold start... does the rpm sit just under 2k for a lil while til it drops??
