  1. AAMI organised a hire car so we can continue everything that was planned. It will be assessed in Dubbo and will pretty much stay here unless AAMI choose to repair... which I extrememly doubt. Everything critical is bent and it's just a mess. I'm also pretty sure the engine has injested some dirt. The shock of the impact managed to knock my pod filter off the SRI. I guess I better start searching for a replacement.
  2. Boy... this sure would be fun :(
  3. What didn't I do with her today. Well was trying to take her down to Lorne, VIC, but 44km out from Dubbo, I took her off road... permanently. http://au.toyotaownersclub.com/forums/inde...st&p=380078
  4. Well guys, you can bag out the tail lights all you want. It's all over red rover. Please spare me on the lecture about how much of a stupid reaction I had today. I completely understand that I had taken the incorrect approach to the situation so I don't need anyone else to really remind me of that. I am quite depressed about it all as it is. So basically I was on the drive to Lorne whith my Dad. Just driving down the road having a conversation like usual. I'm on the left hand lane and as I'm drivng along at 100km/h (cruise control set), I hada roo hop across the road heading from the right hand side of the road to the left. Due to a bad split second decision, I had swerved to the left (as I saw the roo hop out from the right), and in the process, my front left tire got onto the gravel on the side of the road and the momentum of the car meant that both wheels then made it onto the embankment, and once that occured... it was pretty much fate to determine the rest. It had 'launched' off the embankment and pretty much followed the dirt along the side of the road about 1 metre below the actual road level. Brake pretty much had no action here, it was just the dirt that was there to slow the car down. The windscreen was immediately overed in dirt so the pending fate could not be seen. At the end of it all, my rear bumper was about 100 metres back from where the car had come to a stop. Everything happened so fast, but after looking at it all afterwards and having the police assess everything for their report, we then realised just how lucky we were to survive this accident. Of all the trees that we possibly could have hit head on, we managed to avoid them. If it wasn't for this stump that was laying on it's side, we would have gone straight into another stump that would definitely not budge. The left side of the car took most of the impact but managed to bounce us off course enough to be just in the clear. So my old man and I managed to escape with no serious injuries. My old man took most of the force and just has a little bit of ache here and there but nothing serious. I have a sore shoulder and ankle but nothing more serious than a light muscle ache. Both of us are a little sore from where the seatbelt makes contact with your body, but I guess that's to be expected. I must say from all this, I am quite impressed at how durable the Aurion was during the incident. Depite the fact it sounded so so painful as it made it's encounter with the ground, it absorbed the impact well. I also felt like my heart was torn out afterwards. But as the police said, we are damn lucky that it's only the car that is done for. Sure the insurance can take care of it, but it's just not the same. I will truely miss this car. So depressed.
  5. Yay, I've got some views from the other side of the table. I appreciate it mate. You know me though... I'm keeping them. Much like how I and others said they don't like the look of a Colt, but people start to see it differently after a while.
  6. The proximity sensor is not depended on external light. Each proximity sensor has its own built in infra-red light which it emits and ther sensor portion of it then detects if it is bounced back or not (ie. placing it up to your ear).
  7. Try a citrus oil based goo remover. Otherwise you can use things like eucalyptus oil or lighter fluid.
  8. I'm guessing he'd either mean you can remove them from the car or you can separate the casing... both of which you can do with the Aurion headlights. Really? Any Picss?? Check out this thread: Angel Eyes or Circle Eyes? Says it would normally be $450 to do, but he managed to get the guy to do them for $350.
  9. I'm no genius on the subject (I hate iPhones) but from what I have heard, the iPhone has a sensor that turns the screen off when you put it to your ear. I would imagine one of those is a light sensor (the oval hole) and the other is the video call camera (round hole). My HTC Diamond also has a light sensor next to the speaker, but this is for automatic backlight adjustment. Edit: As I said, I don't know the iPhone, so that was just a guess. A Google search found this: http://www.ilounge.com/index.php/news/comm...oximity-sensor/
  10. Use one of those flexible razor blade replacements that you use on scrapers (like the one in the attached image). As long as you hold is as flat to the surface as possible, you won't scratch the LCD. Much like a shaving razor when used correctly will not slice your skin.
  11. Some inspiration? Green-wall tires.
  12. Just checked up on the thread. Closed due to excess trolling. Was good while it lasted.
  13. Story was, since the car was a write-off, he was going to do one last burnout in it. He even put bald tires on to make it do so easier. Then he failed.
  14. Industry standard for a large car seem to still be around the $350-$395 mark for the darkest legal. That's what mine cost when I got it done a couple of years ago, and it still seems to be like that now. Talking or knowing the right people though can get it closer to the $300 mark so I've heard.
  15. If only they were still open, I'd recommend 'Revive'. They used to be across the road from the RBH until the tunnel work commenced. Apart from that, I'd recommend Tint-a-car in Milton. They do all the dealership tinting for Mercedes and have some experience doing exotics so they do the job well. Only thing is that you are usually stuck with industry standard costs due to it being a place like that.
  16. I did read your reply. I wasn't saying that you got it wrong. I was stating this to mean that the first half of your post is what really counts as the second half is irrelevant to the purpose of these lights for this given case. In my reply, the next sentence said: Not everyone has the skills or willingness to pull their headlights apart. Also, the traditional reflector is curved for use with a bulb whereas these have a flat panel with multiple mini reflectors for each LED. Not particularly easy to re-create whilst keeping a factory look.
  17. Looking great there Matt. Love the colour as well. I always liked that one since it came out. And yet another Queenslander for the count. It's the place to be.
  18. Cruise control is still available regardless of the transmission.
  19. LOL. Nice find. Currently wasting time on it now.
  20. Without having documented attempting this on an Australian ZRE, we can only guess. In theory, it looks like it could work, but that doesn't mean I'm saying that yes, it will work. Also, this has been discussed before which can be found by searching 'cruise control' in the Corolla forum. I think this sums it up: ZRE Cruise Control So maybe look to see if you have the connector firstly.
  21. What can I say. I just love to hear my engine roar :D If only the Clem 7 didn't have speed cameras.
  22. soundbyte: As you can see in the attached photos, these tail lights have that section on the outside with individual LED's that are spaced apart to give it that 'LED tail light look'. I guess for this look, the convenience of buying a new tail light would probably be better than DIY. LED bulb replacements are good, but don't give you that 'look'.
  23. Please wait a few seconds for Video to Load!
  24. So you're saying you thought the way to reverse the LCD was to put another polarising filter on top? I thought all this talk about trying it on top was just so you could determine the polarisation direction. Then in that case, you are doing it wrong. All that has to be done is to take off the existing filter and replace it with a new one (or re-using the original if you didn't mess it up) but rotated at 90 degrees. Flipping the polarising filter over (back to front) can work, but only if the LCD is diagonally polarised.
  25. Mate, some LCD's will not black out completely when you hold another polarising filter up to them at 90 degrees. This is because polarising filters don't necessarily block all wavelengths of lights.
