  1. Another stupid question contribution: Why are a large percentage of weekend driver's so hopeless on the road? I hate driving on the weekends as it's so much more stressful trying to put up with these idiots on the road.
  2. get this guy out of here Stupid environmental protection and their save the Earth crap. If it weren't for that, I'd love to see what lift would do to a V6.
  3. Rowan: You... Me... QR. Also throw a run down the strip while we are at it. It's on then. One thing I've noticed when going with Elgin is that the epic lag of the shifting really kills ya. I reckon both cruise at 60 in 3rd then third honk we run.
  4. I've had my car run without the fan before. All it did was give me decreasing power figures across the three runs. Was meant to be 2 but they did the extra as the figures were too different. Went something like this; 116kW, 114kW, 110kW; a good show of heat soak at its best. Rowan and I were having a good think about it before we pulled out. We had the feeling that it should be able to take it, but then again, what if something doesn't go so great. As well, it seemed that the best runs they were getting were the third run (maybe the operator) and at that rate, there's no way our figures would be what we were hoping.
  5. We just went up and said we can't run it and they refunded us. Only thing wasted was time.
  6. Cheers thanks for the info. Made notes for the Varex. Was actually looking at the Xforce website as well so got that penned in the Exhaust column lol My opinion. It's not worth going Varex unless you just want the ability to silence it easily. If you work out a way to incorporate it into a full exhaust (since when open it is a straight through 2.5 inch muffler) and then be able to get some gains out of it, then it may prove worthy because you have that ability to silence it. But if you can put up with extra noise 24/7, then go for a full exhaust without Varex as it would be the most worth it.
  7. Very nice, also trying to get a charity Toyota dyno day organised. I figured it would be something a bit different from the first cruise :) Daryl - I'd be quite pissed off if I was you - nowhere was it mentioned that they are only running RWD cars! I know a lot of people were planning on bringing FWD cars, so there's going to be a lot of angry people. Rowan and I ARE quite p*ssed off. They should have at least stated that it was RWD only. But then again, this was something advertised on Boost, so that kinda answers that. From the looks of it, not many of them would be annoyed. The place was filled with quite a lot of muscle. Though if we did get a run, we would have got some decent figures compared to some of the boxes running there.
  8. It's not Varex as per the thread title, but since we already started here, we may as well keep going. Just a clip of Rowan's exhaust. It's just a quick clip, because we anticipated getting one when it was (supposed to be) going on the dyno which would have sounded sweet. Anyways here it is. It sounds much better in person, and when you back off, it is really deep: Please wait a few seconds for Video to Load!
  9. What the hell is a semi-flow muffler? :s Doesn't sound useful just from the sounds of it.
  10. Probably best to search over in the 'Workshops and Maintenance' forum, or ask there if your question is not already been answered. You will be more likely to get some good information over there from some of the locals, and probably pick up more attention. Edit: I'll do this here to save another post. Just off topic Drew, it's not my Varex thread as you've stated below. Credit to me though, hehehe.
  11. Don't expect to see any results guys. Their dyno was set up to run RWD only. They said we can run but they won't be able to put the fan in front. Not worth the risk and the results wouldn't be accurate too. Disappointed.
  12. That's what I was going to mention. It ain't a cheap filter when you get it direct from Toyota, which is where I've been getting mine so far. The price from Toyota including GST is $29.60. When I can be bothered, I'm going to try and find someone that stocks an alternative at a cheaper price. I know Ryco manufacture a cabin air filter (P/N: RCA164P), but I'm not too sure what their cost is.
  13. Well a bit of an old thread revival, but it saves starting a new one since I can continue on the last. Anyways, from my previous post on the 4th of February, would would have seen my filter looking like the following (and I mentioned that I should probably get a new one): Well, I got a little lazy and never got around to changing it. When it was at that state, it would have been in the car for about 5,000km. Now another 2 months and 5,000km later, I finally got around to changing it, and well.... the picture kind of sums up why you should change it at regular intervals, bearing in mind I have my external vent open about 90% of the time. The air smells so much cleaner now. It really does make a difference.
  14. daryl colour code ftw Each to their own, I'll be fine as is. Black contrasts well with red.
  15. How about supporting my Nigerian friend instead who requires your bank details so he can place his money somewhere more secure. He promises to let you keep 25% or USD$1 million. No need to feed the spambots.
  16. Imagine the look on the guy's face when he got out and lifted the bonnet. It's actually quite amazing how the deer got there with minimal damage to the front bumper.
  17. I just had to look at that without delay. Good reply Ash. Couldn't be more correct. Thanks for taking the effort to do so; I probably would have said something that would make matters worse.
  18. To be honest, it was as you said; "not much louder than before". Definitely needs less restriction at the rear. Those mufflers at the back really cover it up.
  19. Man, that sounds like some serious family matters there. No doubt about it that they probably gave it a flogging. I hate hearing things like that happening to something that you own. Anyways, I don't think the ECU for such a car has been designed to record such data. It's not really something you would picture Toyota investigating during services, etc. Maybe a high end car like a Ferrari or GT-R would require this type of thing, but not an Aurion. Even if it did, I would imagine it only storing the highest values attained, and I'm sure that it would only display figures that you can account for: I wouldn't be concerned about high speed, I'd be more concerned about the damage at lower speed.
  20. After hearing Rowan's exhaust modification both with and without load, I can say that it is definitely a nice sound. With no load, it is loud (but not overly) but when you back off, it has this really deep note that sounds sex. With load however, it actually seems relatively quiet from outside the car. I was following him (with my Varex closed so I could listen) you could hear this louder exhaust, but it wasn't quite as obvious that it was coming from his car. It was fairly deep and at one of those frequencies that is hard to determine its direction. In comparison to other cars out there though, it still seems kind of quiet under load. I'm thinking those rear mufflers need something new. I guess the dyno this Saturday will show whether the stock restrictions in the exhaust are really that much of one. Plus whether my Varex when closed causes me to lose power. All I'm interested in the meantime is whether my car is running the same or worse than stock, plus whether Rowan is getting better than stock.
  21. I'll be there... bearing some eyelids and electrical assistance for Ash.
  22. Nice tidy engine bay there. I am also loving the way that front end is going. It looks so smooth and minimal, yet so fine. At least it is FMIC ready ;)
  23. ^ Bound to happen. It is always a shame to see such cars go to waste.
  24. That is true. HID's are more efficient, hence why they produce more light with less power consumption. Halogens waste up to 80% of their energy as heat. So at 35W for HID, even if all energy was wasted as heat, the HID would still be cooler than the halogen. No need to fear your reflectors burning out.
  25. There is a weeks worth of brake dust on the wheels in those pics :D Clean it to a bright shine and people will think you changed your rims
