im just about to finish year 10 , but im not cut out to continue to year 11 and 12

im lookin for a apprentace ship or a fulltime job with electronics or computers but i dont know where abouts to start

im pretty good with both computers and electronics

any 1 with some guides or tips would be great

Have you thought about joining the army?

They pay well, and look after you pretty good. I have a mate going in full time as an electrics technician/sparkies. He used to be a part time reservist like myself, but has been attracted by the pay and the army life. Training is 18 months intensive and afterwards, you are required to work 4 yrs contracted to the Army. They are screaming for sparkies at the moment. Give them a ring and enquire. 13 19 01

About the missing out on yr 11/12 thing. That may not be the best way to go abouts doing it. It's only 2 yrs of your life and I think many courses require pre-requirements?

i would recommend yr 11 and 12 even just as an accredited student, not as tertiary. Most schools offer school based apprentaceships or vocational ed subjects which sound like they would be perfect for u. I agree with jules don't write off the final years for school its not very long to go at all.

these days you can do an apprenticeship parallel with completing high school. Why not look into that option?

That way you don't have to miss out on getting a High School Certificate as well.

One of my mates is now a third year apprentice in optical lenses or something, you should check it out.

They're all right dude...yr 11 and 12 is the business.

Even if you have no intention of going on to be a genius - do those last couple of years, just to say you did it. You're still going to be young and able to choose any path you would choose now - if not more! Finishing yr 12 looks much better on the resume than yr10.

Plus, its another 2 yrs you can spend with old/new friends - having a laugh from 9-3 each day doing the odd assignment in between. And as they said, you can do a school based apprenticeship where part of your official curriculum is going off 1 or 2 days a week getting some hands on experience/training - which counts towards a proper apprenticeship, if thats your bag!

If its money thats your motivation to get out of school, then try and aim for a weekend job (preferably sundays) while you finish school. You'll earn sunday rates, and if you're any good you'll have more chance of getting those shifts because you'll be cheaper for them to pay than the other staff.

You can still do year 11 and 12 as well as joining the armed forces as they will help with expenses like a new computer while you study or you can do a school based traineeship / apprenticeship see your careers advisor at school as they should know about these options you would also get paid for your traineeship but the pay may not be great but you will learn alot and have a good kick start when your finished year 12 also there are alot of traineeships/apprenticships available . all the best School based will also help you get into uni if that is what you want in a few years.

Don't leave school man, it'll be the worst thing you ever do...

I did my mechanic traineeship while I was in year 11 and 12, you get your HSC and you also get a head start at an apprenticeship...

Even if you dont pass your HSC, any emplyer will still take into account that you gave it a go, didn't quit and stuck the hard yards into it... Thats wat counts man...

Complete years 11&12, then look at your options then. Perhaps take up a diploma at tafe in computing or electronics.

Keep in mind that these days with electronics, when they break down, people just discard them and buy another one rather than getting them repaired.

There appears to be more opportunities in computing. A lot of people that do electrical engineering end up moving into IT.

Speaking from personal experience.. i suggest you stay in school. Sure you may be cash rich now if you quit and get a job.. but think about the future for a bit.. all your mates will be more qualified out of school and further study.. it can really affect you into the future.

What he means is, sure you can leave school and can start earning $30,000 per annum now, whilst students your age will be comparitively poor during their study years with part time jobs earning $10-15,000 per annum. You will be on top of the world, new car, plenty of drinking money, disposable income out your ears.

Then when the others graduate from uni they will be making the same as you for a little while. A few years down the track they'll be on $50,000... Then $70,000... Then $100,000... And you will have your $30,000 p/a and year 10 certificate, for the rest of your life. Before you know it, they own houses and investment properties and you're still renting your flat or living with mum.

The moral: do a school based apprenticeship to obtain a skill, specialise in something, ensure you are always employable, keep learning and reap the benefits.

If you're "pretty good with both computers and electronics" then why do you want to quit school? stick at it man. it's only 2 more years and it gives you more time and freedom to figure out what you want to do with your life. Trust me, when you're a corporate slave working for someone else to make a few bucks, you'd wish you where still in school - life's much simpler. Hang on to that as long as you can. You'll know what i means in 5-10years times.

Another vote for sticking with school and doing vocational subjects as opposed to academic ones. I've got mates that were definately not cut out for the HSC but stuck to it, played to their strengths, finished year 12 and now they're in $60k+ jobs. I doubt they would've had a chance if they chucked in the towel at 16 years of age.
