Nurburgring 24 Hour 2008

Recommended Posts

Car finally arrived 18:30 on Thursday, 1.5 days late. We then worked until 02:00 Friday.

Back at track 10:00 Friday.

P1 OK.

P2 "dipstick tube failure". #1 conrod removed it from the engine block. Very unusual failure which wrecked a very good endurance engine finishing record. Replaced engine finished 04:00 Saturday. Qualified for a start.

Back at track 09:00 Saturday (Yes I know it is the same day).

Awake for the entire race as usual. Crashed out at approx hour 22. Brake disk exploded. We were 7th in class and 88th outright at the time.

All 3 drivers did a great job without putting a foot wrong. Simon blindingly quick.

No failures attributable to driver error. Investigations to follow when the car gets back.

Obviously aftermarket rotors of some description. Be keen to see pics of it and how it cam apart. always harder to swallow a dnf when it comes down to a simple part failure. Nice effort guys. Top marks!!

What is really funny is that the European teams come and have a look at the car and find no quad throttle bodies, no carbon fibre body panels, no sequential close ratio dog gearbox, no rose jointed suspension.

They go away shaking their heads asking "how did that get so high up the leader board".

Europeans shake their head and say.... Crazy Australians. But then again if it aint broke dont fix it. (well apart from the brakes lol)
