Headlight Film Tint

RME1

Recommended Posts

I'm pretty sure you will find that anything that alters the headlight lenses in any way will be illegal. These are all governed by the relevant ADR's.

If your wanting to tint headlights, your best bet may be to obtain some covers, tint them, and make sure they are easily removable in case you are harassed. Needless to say, take them off at night.

Shame that it's illegal.

It sure looks cool :D

Not wrong there mate, I would love them a little darker.

Wonder if there is anything along the lines of those Optical Glasses that go dark when your out in the sun, but are light at night? :P

I guess we could always paint the inside of the headlight ?

Hee hee, why the hell not. lol.

Looking at that pic now (pics dont load at work) that looks like something you could almost get away with, then again, all it takes is one unhappy copper and your wearing a canary.

it is not actually a film that goes on the headlight.

we always get people coming into work asking for their headlights tinted (tint-a-car fivedock)

tint needs to be shunk or go on a flat surface.

healights are plastic so shinking wont work and most are curved so u can't tint them.

u will prolly find it is a spray that u spay onto the headlights, a bit like smoke screen but in differant colours.

there are a few things wrong with the video.

some i will show and tell you about as i do this mod.

i have lots of differant types of films at my disposal.

much look the same as that but the video didn't exlaine a few things.

1, why does the film not crease, film is very touchy and he seems to be very rough with it.

2, that tailight should be pretty melted by this stage, heat guns emit alot of heat

3, he didn't offer an answer of how to avoid dirt.

u can prolly imagion how sticky that film must be to stick to a car and remain there for years to come.

dust and other **** floating around would stick 2 that film in about 2 seconds thus leaving a crap job.

wish me luck with this mod though

oh dear.

i tried seven times with different tints on my sportivo.

i am affraid none of it worked for me.

see how he holds the film out and stretches it, i tried that and the film just keeps creasing.

maybe i was doing it wrong.

but even so it would be a majorly hard DIY job.

i will try on my gf's yaris soon and see if that works.

stivo talights are wayyyyyy to curvey at the top.

you will find that it is not actually window film that they use on the headlights.

I have used some of this material before and it feels more like the contact you use to cover books back in school.

With normal window film it can only be heat shrunk from top to bottom ( I think its called trans direction if I remember correctly) where as with this other material it softens it to allow it to be stretched out in all directions. It provides no UV, heat or glare protection.

Cheers

Dave

so i am guessing a polyester based cheap korean made film?

r32 gtr's have this on their windows and its not the film that is dyed, its the glue.

it can be shrunk in all directions but american metal fims can only be shrunk top to bottom.

in the philipinnes they use the dodgy film as we found out the hard way lol.

LOL my favourite bit was the disclaimer at the end.

Did anyone notice the bubble on the right hand side?

Also, if you stretch the film like that, wouldn't you expect the thickness to vary, thus the amount of tint around the fixture would be uneven? Maybe that's not the case...

Yeah it would be similar to the Korean films.

I had a Korean bloke that got me to tint his car with some film which he imported over from his home town and it felt pretty much the same as the headlight film which I put on my bro's car.

It was thin and soft as hell and if I applied abit too much pressure when I was hard carding it, it would scratch and tare the film.
