I need new rotors and brakes well before my scheduled service and have decided to DIY so I called Lander Toyota Parts and got quoted this:

Front

Pads - $88 a set

Rotors - $298 EACH!!!!

Back

Pads - $88 a set

Rotors - $120 each

**** that, i'm not paying that much for OEM brakes when they havnt treated me well in the past. (BTW they didn't have rotors in stock)

Then I called Race Brake Sydney to get some prices:

Front

Pads - $80-120 (not specified yet)

Rotors - DBA4000 $198 each

Back

didn't ask but will get back to you if i get the info.

(BTW they didn't have rotors in stock either)

So at this point I'm waiting for a helpful dude at RBS to get back to me. These prices were a bit of a rude shock. But then again I brake like an idiot so its my own fault.

I will keep you up to date on the happenings. If anyone can get better prices or has some input please help out. Cheers!

I personally would recommend QFM HPX brake pads for the Aurion. They use Bendix product codes of DB1474 for the front and DB1475 for the rear.

These pads can be obtained for $79 per axle set plus shipping from GSL Rallysport.

Otherwise, for a good general purpose pad, the Bendix General CT's are alright, however they cost around $80-$90 per axle set. If you can find a place that still has stock of the Bendix Ultimates though (as it is now discontinued in that pad design), those would be a good one to get as they shouldn't cost much.

The price that you got quoted for the DBA4000 front rotors seems to be about what others are getting quoted these days for them (the slotted variety BTW). I wouldn't expect that you could get them much cheaper than that.

The DBA4000 for the rear though seems to be a bit harder to obtain. Not too long ago they were currently on backorder.... I'm not sure of the status of them now. I desperately need to change my rears though, so if they aren't available, I'll just ask if they have the 2000 series slotted available instead.

Thanks for the info Daz, I wouldnt have contacted anyone without reading what you previously wrote in the FAQ and in your 'my ride' post.

I asked the guy at Race Brake Sydney to get some QFM HPX pads and he is looking into it but said they are usually hard to come by due to low production.

If you are interested in the QFM HPX pads, give Greg at GSL RallySport a call (1300 884 836). He deals directly with QFM so you'll definitely know if there are any delays.

When I first got my set of pads, they were on a manufacturing backorder but after that, they seem to have decent stock of them. I had to change my front pads just the other week and I simply called him up and ordered them. Because he is located in Brisbane, they were in a courier van within a few hours and I got them in the afternoon on the same day.

That is for the HPX pads though. The A1RM pads are usually harder to come by, but if you have a few weeks available, you can order them and then you shouldn't have any issues. These pads though are mainly track pads, so it's only something to consider if you like to race your car. I can safely say that for the Aurion, the HPX pads can take quite a beating at a track day and will keep functioning to the point that your brake fluid will give way before the pads. They will wear much faster than the stock or Bendix pads when giving a hard run on slotted rotors, but for the performance of them, this is a justifiable trade-off.

My preference for QFM pads is fairly biased considering that I've only got the stock pads and Bendix General CT's to compare with though. I haven't taken the opportunity to try other pads mainly because I want to keep using the same pad for the life of my rotors. From my experience though, the QFM HPX pads are indeed a good pad with great value. If you have your own pad preference, definitely look further into it.

when i bought my ultimates, they were $130 for the rear pair from autobarn on special order (i believe the mcv and gsv series share the same rear pads). however, finding them now is going to be almost impossible.

Ok, So i have decided that I might cheap out as I'm not a heavy driver and if I am going to hit the track at any stage it will probably be mid next year when I will put different rotors and pads on prior to that.

What do you all think about RDA Rotors?

I can get both front non slotted for $115 each and Bendix pads for $77.

I read some where that RDA come out of the same factory that make DBA.. Not sure if that is true.

they do, but obviously dont have the 'kangaroo paw' ventilation system that dba discs have. apart from that, same rotor compound and about half the price.

but neither of them are made in australia anymore.

Cool thanks.

Ive decided to cheap out and go for the standard RDA rotors. Not being a very 'spirited driver' and having to pay for a 150 person engagement party this month and 300 person wedding next year I think I should be a little conservative and maybe even slow down a little.

And ive decided the rotor guards are gonna go.

And ive decided the rotor guards are gonna go.

RDA can slot the rotors for you...

i run RDA slotted rotors on my trd... i cant complain, they are 2000 times better than the stock ones.. although i run ebc red stuff on the front which would help things...

actually speaking of my setup.... i scared the shat outta myself the other day (in a good way)!!!

driving quite fast and didnt notice how sharp the corner was so i had to brake REALLY late... the car slowed down a LOT quicker than i expected... :lol:

Funny how we're all in the same boat around the same time.

Sent the car in for servicing, got informed by the service rep that pads need replacing and rotors need machining. Got quoted some ridiculous price (Close to $300). Knew I could do better for that kind of money and abit more - and gave JDMYard a call - PM if you want their Number.

RDA slotted rotors + RDA SM Pads.

Installed them myself in under an hour.

Oh, there's one "Specialist brake shop" in Sydney, mentioned here, that is a crook and I will never use him again. Caveat Emptor.

What is the diameter of the rotor? if you guys on 19" or 20" rims better get 330mm or 355mm rotor for front brakes.

The stock Aurion rotors are 296mm. Remember that to upgrade rotor diameter, you need to upgrade callipers which can then start to get pretty costly.

For those of you interested I’m in the process of getting the TRD front brake package put on my ZR6 now for me the 325mm X32mm rotors, 2 piece Callipers, pads and pad support plates cost $1,252 so add a few hundred for RRP but all up I thought this probably wasn’t such a bad price. Especially considering they bolt straight up and were designed for the car and covered under warranty.

Toyota quoted me $276 on replacing the front pads during a service.

I opted to DIY.

Are there any caliper options. The stock calipers look nasty! you can even see the brake pads. Some prices for amateur calipers would be cool. I mean amateur because Brembo and Endless are so expensive!

I called Toyota and they said 2k a pair of TRD because there vented.

$298 for rotors each! my eyes popped out of my head! that's as ridiculous as Toyota attempting to charge me $240 to change the engine rod, estimated 15 minutes labor.

Sort of. The Kluger and Gen3 upgrades do work; but you need to screw around with the brackets and things.

The TRD upgrade is all bolt on which is why I went this way. Just get RDA or DBA rotors (street/scum series is fine, I'm assuming it won't be pushed within an inch of it's life) and save a bucketload; even with redrilling and locating rings.

Edit: In fact, yes you do. What you don't pay in money, you pay in time doing the designing, running around getting quotes/work done + engineering etc.

You have to pay to play indeed.

I already have Club Spec race roters from DBA. And Ultimate Bendex pads. Just need some nice calipers. some prices would be good so I can budget.

Club spec? Street/4000/5000 series? What are the dimensions of the rotors?
