Presara smart keys

Recommended Posts

NOTE: I am currently looking for a 2008 Presara in Adelaide so this is an 'uneducated question' If my wife and I both sit in the Presara with my key in my pocket and her key in her handbag (black hole)how does the Presara work out to adjust the seat and mirrors? I'm thinking maybe it has a sensor under the drivers seat and just picks up on the closest key? Also, someone mentioned that keys kept to close to the car will go flat more quickly, does anyone know how close is too close? (Mine would generally be around 6 to 8 metres away inside the house.

Thanks

John

The Smart Key for the Presara does not set the Seats/Mirrors or any personal settings. All it is used for is to lock/unlock/start/stop the car.

The Presara does have two memory settings on the right side of the steering wheel on the dash, which you will have to press, it stores the position of the driver's seat, and the mirrors.

The Battery in the key will be drained if left in or near the vehicle. If the key is further than 2 metres away from the vehicle it'll be fine, but in saying that the the key is always active, so you will eventually need to replace them, whether or not you use it (approx 3 years).

Just constantly alternate between the keys to maximise the use of both batteries.

Go to this topic for more information about replacing the batteries.

As u54mot says, the smart keys on Aurion is only to open and lock doors, and keyless entry. There's no other function apart from that.

The seat memory is totally unrelated to the remotes, it functions like speed dials on phones. You'll have to adjust and have it memorize the seat and side mirrors.

Some batteries last for around 2 years, some got 3 years out of it. If they ran out, it's easy and cheap to replace the battery too.

If you leave the dome lights to auto, you'll notice as soon as you get near to the car, at some point, the lights will switch on. I assume that point is the longest range the car can detect where the remote is.

Again as u54mot says, around 2 metres away from the car is fine.

I used to own a Presara before I replaced it with the TRD.

The keys can be programmed to recognise seat and mirror settings so that my wife had her pre-programmed settings and I had mine. I did experiment with having both keys near the drivers door and opened the door and I think the key with the fresher battery was selected by the sensor. Normally, the driver would have the key on their person and even if your wife have her key in her handbag, I think the car will know that the drivers key will be detected by the sensor near the drivers door and will set the seat and side mirror setting for the key that is closest to the drivers door.

There is a little leprechaun that Toyota instauls in all Presaras who's job it is to adjust your mirrors and seat.

With all the other Aurion models the leprechaun is an optional extra.

yes this is a feature in the pres. there are regions for the detection of the transponders and it will pick up the one in that zone. no idea what happens when both are in the drivers zone tho.

Thanks for all of your assistance, very helpful and very interesting. I will check that when buying to see if the keys have been programmed, I assume that is a service that the service department offers on request and for a fee of course.

u program it yourself. u set the seat profiles as per normal. then u code the smart keys to the profile by pressing a few buttons.

its all in the manual.

edit: and most salespeople dont even know about this feature (well when i was buying - i knew more about the car than them).

Freddo is right, if you can use a television remote, you can program you smart key fob. I programed ours, now when I drive the ZR6, the seats and mirrors adjust for me and when the wife drives it they adjust for her,. Read your hand book its ***** easy

RAC is about $120 a year...

how much is vehicle tracking?

i reckon its reasonable.

I feel its pretty reasonable also as my way of thinking is why have that feature to begin with when you are not going to keep it also contact Toyota as I am pretty damn sure that if your Car is STOLEN whilst Toyota Link is subscribed too, Toyota will pay the insurance excess and a few other quirks and perks associated with subscribing to it

Sorry, searching for "Toyota Links" but could not find any. After 3 years free, now getting a letter saying to keep this I have to pay $240/year. Is it expensive, reasonable or dirt cheap ?

BH

It does reduce your insurance premiums, just remember to tell your insurance company that you have vehicle tracking.

And as long as don't pay for any other Road Side Assistance (Road Side Assistance is included in the $240 annual price), it is worth it for piece of mind.

Thanks, already paid in bulk thru broker up to 31/12/2011. Will pay by myself from 1/1/2012.

Wow. Programming the remote. That is better than putting wear and tear on the actual memory buttons for driving position...
