looks like you need to send it to a suspension specialist even if you take it to a mechanic they would probably take the car to pedders to get fixed on a jig which they can stretch it back out if it has not been pushed in too much. it would not cost too much to fix if it is just stretching it back out on a jig.

but if you have bent things beyong pulling them back straight then you would be up for replacement parts. maybe time to think about upgrading the suspension to aftermarket as the price you pay for factory parts may work out the same.

just watch out if you hear rattling sounds in the hub later on that would mean you smashed the bearings or something inside the hub and this would cost a lot to replace.

I hit a gutter and wrecked a rim at 60kmh, luckily the spare is a full size. U hit 1 and bent ur hole rear end. looks like an expensive job. Only if warrenty covered sliding into gutters. Yeah i agree 1st take it to pedders and get $14 suspension check. They will tell what is wrong with it. Look at the quote they give u to fix it. Then laugh at the huge prices they want to charge, then take it elsewhere.

sorry to hear..........

judging by the picture i'm not sure how much internal damage its caused but this has happened to a few friends of mine.. mostly subie's and its not a cheap job... cost at around $1000 depending if any damage has been done to axle etc etc... i wouldn't be driving around too much with it on. take a few pics with and without the wheel and borrow a car and ask a few places.

just to keep things on the positive... was it fun? how did u do that?

i was doing around 90 n i swerved and the car lost control n spun 180 degrees into a gutter... ill take more pics tomoro when we pull it apart theres not much to see u cant really see the bend in the bar.

were taking it all off and hammering the bar that hooks up to the 2 wheels... coz bob jane told me today that its bent so yeh... im just gonna get it drivable for now and get it fixed later coz i got exams on.

Danz - i go to your uni man dont u remember? haha "drive safe?" lost my license n slammed my car

i would not be "bending" anything back into place, as you will prolly weaken it more. You should go and get it fixed or else you take the risk of somthing actually breaking and then you will be worse off....

If your Torsion Beam is bent I'd say it would need replacing, not to mention the member/swaybar within it.

If you get it bent back it's never going to be back to where it was and that means you wont be able to properly align your rear wheels.

I think so too 1ZZ-FE. Once a chassis is fark its pretty much fark. Unless the mech shop have the proper machine to straighten up the chassis, which is located in south melb, its called Spencer Panels. However, I reckon they will tell you to change it still.

  • 10 months later...

bump guys..

Unfortunately i had a similar accident recently, but the front may have damage too

:(

Anyone have an idea of how much it would cost to get fixed? And where

this will be costly

my mate did this on his evo

needed to replace

Brakes - the brake lines snapped and the disc was busted

whole hub assembly

the strut

torsion arm

rim obviously

but all these parts.. the brakes caused the most nuissance

Warranty? Serious.?...

Thought it would void it since they would notice the impact from the gutter, etc.

Apparently it wasnt that bad. noone worked out what had happened. it made alot of noise and there was a scracth on the rim.

Would this be covered in insurance?

Depends on the cost. Is it worth losing your NCD and having an 'at fault' claim against your insurance history? it haunts you for the next 5 years remember...

I've done that to my front wheel on the right side of the car when i just got it 3 yrs ago. It was bent way worse than this one. Luckily insurance covered the repair cost, which ended up around the $7000 range. The car had to be towed, because it couldn't be driven. My car skidded in teh rain and hit the curb while turning left..

haha, oh yeah. me too. I wrote off my first car in the rain by bending the axle to almost a right angle.

I tried to overtake a truck... in the attempt my near bald rear tyres refused. causing me to fishtail and then do a 180... at which point i was face to face with the truck i was trying to overtake - i thought i was a goner... but i slammed hard sideways into the gutter and the truck zoomed past me barely missing me. not a soul stopped to help me. It was so bad.

The right rear wheel was jammed against the body work, the left wheel was trying to escape the guard and the center of the axle was bentso hard it looked like it wanted to touch the ground.

complete write off.

wow, after the three stories ive told on these forums tonight I really come across as a bad driver...
