So my Avensis got rear ended back in late February and just this morning (Friday) I left it at the AAMI Repair Link. Earlier tonight (same Friday as drop off) as I drove home after picking my dad up in the Camry, My dad and I happened to see my Avensis heading in the opposite direction. It was hard to confirm it 100% but the the lights set up with same blue DRLights is all I needed to know it was my car.

I'm not sure what to make of it atm, I won't get to see it for another week or so. I guess whoever has my car would be using it for the weekend.

Please share some wisdom as to what to make of this, maybe someone had a similar situation and what my course of action should be when I get the car back. I know they may not have the right to use a customer car for personal use but I mean, once you leave your car with them, what can you do? Therefore I'm happy to just forget about it if the extra kms are reasonable for a weekend... I'm just really fond of the car hence my head is just spinning with thoughts atm...I can only hope for the best that it was being used by someone sensible.

Sorry if some of this is grammatically incorrect or doesnt make sense...its late, I'm tired, I'm just really fond of the car hence my head is just spinning with thoughts atm...

Maybe keep a note of the time, date & location where you witnessed it, then check the odometer when you get the car. Ask the workshop that you spot your car on that particular date, time & location, ask them where was the car taken to and see what they say.

Seen four people in my parents Merc driving nearby my university one time (Saw them turning out of a mall, which has KFC in it.). Called my parents, who then contacted the dealer who tried to deny and claim that only two technicians are allowed in the car for 'test drives'. After this happened, I took a photo of the odo & trip meter just in case, before sending both car out for servicing or repairs.

Id say call the AAMI repair link and find out if the vehicle is ready for pickup as you saw it being driving last friday night?

Had this happen to me too! Dropped the Celica in to get the discs machined.. was supposed to only take a couple of hours.. the guy calls me and says... sorry the tool is stuffed and wont have another until tomorrow.. when I picked the car it was a bit more dusty and I swear there was less fuel and an extra 10kms on the odometer.. but I didnt check it before I dropped it in so I couldnt get mad at them.. The guys at the shop had huge smiles when I picked it up.. I'll be speaking to the owner of the business about it when I find him.

The funny thing is that the repairers and I both recorded the odo and fuel level on the spot...o.o I'll try what you said when I head in.

I dropped the car off yesterday (Friday) morning and spotted it the same night. =s

The worst part is not knowing how they used your car during that time eh?

n2uyrvu9hj0r2ry98hugr2ry my car is a people carrier lol it may have looked half decent with the cosmetic mods on it but why someone would take it for a spin instead of some other better cars that were there for repairs beats me...I'm just gonna keep telling myself that it was used by a sensible family man for now.

FYI, the damage wasn't significant, it was still driveable.

You're confusing yourself as just before that line you say you can't confirm it is your car.

Speak to the bodyshop and see what they say.

After working on the car with my dad sourcing and putting up the bodykits and our own DIY DRLs, my dad and I are very confident that it was infact our very own unique Avensis. The only one of its kind in Sydney if you will.

However, as this spotting occurred during night time, there may be a very, very slim chance that it may have been a different Avensis and that is why I had said "It was hard to confirm it 100%".

They said they will contact me about the repairs on Monday, I will ask bout it and see what they say.

They may have been dumping a dead body and your Avensis was the only car of suitable size and practicality to do so.
