Hi all,

I know this has happened to a few people before with sportivos so I'm just wondering if someone can give me some info.

I've had this problem for about a month now, it only happens in the morning when the engine/gearbox is cold it crunches when going into 3rd??

Since then I've come to putting the gear in at a snails pace or just skipping the gear?? However once the car is warm it goes in straight away??

Also when I'm in lift and want to change to second it's almost impossible to do so ??

Someone please help!!!

Cheers

you need to adjust the clutch pedal height so it disengages completely so you can shift in lift. Also, depending on how many kms your sportivo it has done, your synchros may need to be replaced.

Ok in lift it's more so a clutch cuz, as for cold driving normal I'm guessing ur trying to change into third at low rpm say 3-4? Try what's mentioned above first and adjust ya pushrod for ya master cyl, if not may be the clutch but yeh more than likely syncro, still raises the Q why cold not hot??

try a different gear oil. Your synchro's are worn. Redline MT90 or Castrol VMX80

My sportivo has done around 110k on the clock but I've checked the log books and it says that the gearbox oil hasn't been changed for a while???

An yes I'm changing gears around 3-4k, is adjusting the pushrod a DIY job or will I need a specialist/mechanic??

Cheers

ok well im doing the usual 5000km service this weekend so i will hopefully look into changing that gear oil. so MT-90 is the way to go?? is that expensive and how much does the gearbox take?

make SURE you see the mechanic drop the gear box oil. i'm sure it would have turned out a very watery consistency instead of normal oil where its thicker. my cars travelled 140k and i change the oil every 50k. i use castrol syntrax full synthetic 75W90 with a nulon G70 125ml additive. ever since then i used it, i rarely crunch the gears unless i get lazy :P

the above oils mentioned do better when u have worn synchros. change to those or stop driving hard

clutch will need adjustment, get a mechanic to do it so it gets done properly.

Thanks for that Kenshin :D

as you posted that i was already watching your DIY guide to changing the gearbox oil :P

what happens if you put too much oil into the gearbox and also what does the additive do? will this make shifting alot smoother? :D

wont make the shifting smoother if the syncros are worn, get the castrol vmx80 since it doesnt cost an arm and a leg like the mt90, or if you can afford it get the redline. If your in sydney and want a mechanic thats done a gearbox oil change and a clutch adjustment let me know.

whats the difference in price between the castrol and the redline? and is there really much difference?

i am located in the inner west suburbs of sydney so if you know of someone let me know because i want that clutch adjustment :D

talking from first hand experience. friend kept crunching in 3rd, changed the oil to MT90 = fixed the crunching

price wouldnt be THAT much of a difference. i need 3 bottles of castrol which is 25 bucks each and nulon additive 15 bucks. MT90 is around 120 bucks?

Posted

considering the difference is only 30 bucks im considering just buying the MT-90, would i have to use any additive?

i think i might do the engine oil change aswell, im currently using penrite sin0(ten tenths) which is 0w-40 or 30 from memory. is that a good oil or does anyone know of a better one?? :spiteful:

I've always wanted royal purple but it's super $$$$$$ :P haha unless you know where to get it?? ;)

i use HPR5. its good enough even for the track. i upgraded to SIN5 since i tracked once in the summer and wanted the extra protection. i can get it at 45 bucks a bottle anyways :spiteful: for MT90, no additive

Where i get it? Haha secret !

sharing is caring  autobarn is f#cking expensive. <_<

i have a contact in melbourne who does stock royal purple. he will send to you if u ask him nicely :P

Posted

You can get sin5 for 45 per bottle?? That's heaps good, I payed 80 for sin0!!!!! And your contact for royal purple?? How much does he charge?

Actually it isn't if you had the right contacts. Royal purple $14 per quart. Royal purple XPR $26 per quart.

Just finished changing the gearbox oil with the nulon g70 additive and the shifting does feel a little smoother, but when I drained the old oil, only 1 litre came out????? That's not right???

Posted

No that's not right

Did u have the 17mm bolt that indicates your at the right level open to help with the draining?

What u put in? 2.5L ?

Posted

Yep had that opened first then the plug and let it all drain out, then filled it with 2.3 litres???
