Exclamation mark - what does it mean

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone, I am new here and need some help.

My wife's Corolla has had the Master warning light come on (picture attached). It's a yellow exclamation mark and I have asked 2 separate Toyota dealers what it means and they have been unable to help me.

Anyone have any ideas ? Many thanks.

I got a better idea.. Don't check that check your owners manual first ..

Did that ... it says "Master Warning Light". It does not however tell you what it can be. It's not written well. I suspect Toyota could hook up scanner and tell from codes ?

The words "Master Warning Light" would seem to indicate that something rather important needs to be looked at. If nothing out of the obvious can be seen, it might be wise to consult with Toyota or a mechanic. They are meant to be able to read warning codes so if they can't help you in person, just tell them how useless they are and try another.

It can appear for things ranging from leaving the handbrake on or bonnet unlatched while moving, to something more serious like a fault with your charging system.

The light comes on, if you turn your engine off after you have opened the door, OR whenever you have then ignition on with the door on.

Light comes on when I open the car door or switch off engine. Light goes off when engine is switched on. I have checked hand brake, sunroof, all lights, coolant & engine oil.

Will check tyre pressure tonight. Very strange.

defintely not relate to engine, otherwise CEL will throw

I think some sensors is broken. Toyota should be able to diagnoise, they are just being lazy

I got a OBD2 reader, but it only read CEL, which is not your case

If it's only happening when the engine is off, or the car door is open, I wonder if it's got something to do with either your immobiliser or something similar. If it isn't on whilst the engine is running then I would think that it can't be anything serious
