I've had my worst nite possibly tonite! I was driving thru Burswood Casino and *Wham* outta no where my car just died, refused to start! I get that starting noise like theres no battery power but its healthy @ 13V, then I noticed my RSM just wont power up, hence the dead ECU? Got RAC to come this was at like 11 PM at night, they couldnt do anything about it, since there is no spark or ignition pulse...

So had to get the car towed back to my house.....gotta send it to toyota on monday, hope they can solve the problem

= ( my baby!

my stivo! = (

Weird stuff like this happens man...

Mine died a few weeks ago, and I thought it was battery but ended up being the alternator. Replaced under warranty.

THen the battery died because the alternator was playing up.

The alternators in these cars are way underpowered...

not only that but the battery size thats in the rollas are the smallest on the market  (for cars)

if you compare our cars to a ford lazer or something they got medium sized battery's  (i think toyota was stupid and didnt concider power consumption when they made this car and instantly slapped the smallest battery in)

anywayz hope your car comes back ROARING!! =D

yeah i agree thats all we need another common potential problem lol

our stivos go hard and all but seem to have MANY little problems haha

i was heaps low on fuel yesterday<but it was raining, i have a CAI and the car was idling REALLY rough and then the revs spiked to 2500rpm then went back to nomal,

i then was going around a corner on my way to the servo and the car DIED as i straightened up started itself pack up again and was alright, i was OH KNOW I HATE THE RAIN, thinking there was something wrong with the water in my CAI haha

i then filled up and no problems since

now thing is where my needle was sitting i have had it sitting lower than that before and i had no problems, but anyways its VERY rare that the needle EVER goes that low in my car/cars so its not something thats gonna happen often AT ALL

You gotta remember that the fuel cotains alot of ****, thats why they recommend not to go below the quarter of a tank. I once pulled apart a fu8el tank in an old corona, and there was a heap load of sludge on the bottom, would hate for that to go in the fuel lines.

My Air con compressor clutch gave up last week, made a squeeling noise. It was bad timing as i had just installed the ces exhaust, i thought there was something wrong with it, thank *** it was the compressor.

You guys have to remember that toyota, being such a large company outsorces most of the components from other smaller companies, so things like alternators, batteries and air con compressors are made by companies like Denso, and others that are in the toyota suppliers list. Thats why you think you buy a toyota and its all toyota is no more, the reliable cars of the 70's and 80's built by them no longer exist, they once manufactured 90% of the components. These days they just assemble. Its a cheaper alternative, but at the same time more things can go worng.

yeah i agree like i said its VERY rare that i dont fill up before the empty line

as for there being HEAPS of sludge i hope not

well not yet anyways

my cars is only a few months old and i already put fuel cleaner in it like every few months already to help PREVENT any dirt build up but i know its gonna happen no matter what so oh well LOL

i think its dodgy tha cars arent as reliable and genuine as they were many years ago but hey what can we do about it hey

yeah i had a full tank of fuel! well the bp refinery just came back online so i used the first batch of 98 octane they made, i dont think its that tho!

**** hey..... the rac guy goes WTF? ive never seen a toyota like urs break down before =/ if i change to like a bigger battery will that help in the future?

If you have a CAI and your stivo starts running rough or dies it can also mean it's time to give your maf sensor a clean. Peekay and myself both experienced this long ago after we had run the CAI's for a while on our old Stivo's. Even the slightest drop of oil from the filter on the mAf does seem to upset the readings.

For our cars the issue was not constant and the issue would just show itself every now and then. If it happens again mate it just might need a clean like ours. Once we cleaned them the car ran perfect again!

Umm and how do you clean the sensor?

hope the sound im putting in will hold up the the rollas small battery!

...The last 5 10-20 year old fuel tanks I've taken apart have been "like new" inside.

To clean the MAF, remove it from the intake and spray it with electrical contact cleaner, or get a ziplock bag with pure alcohol and swish the MAF around in that.

sorry to hear that hope it is not worst than bad fuel or maf sensor. there are cases and melb nunawading toyota has done 3 sportivos of bent pistons.

Posted (edited)

...how do you bend a cast piston?

Bent rods or valves from over-revving wouldn't suprise me.
