what really destroys his credibility to me is the fact taht he calls corollas poorly built. Have any of you driven a renaultsport clio? They are just awful. There is wind noise, fit and finish is appauling, gear shift is vauge and heavy, driving position is poor and unforgiving, i could go on but i wont. Sure it does also have its good points ill admit that!

but it all dissapears out the window as soon as you nail it! MAN! torque the whole way through the rev range. That said, i'd own one if i fit into one - purely for supid grin factor.

The fact of the matter is that these guys really dont know much about what they are saying. Keyboard warriors. Sure the golf gti and golf r32's are ultimate performance hatches - but the term hothatch really is a subjective thing.

This comes from my experiences in sp23s, renaultsport clios, commodores manual and automatic, rb 20 and 25 skylines, is200's (maybe bar one with a 1jz under the bonet running 220+kw), jap spec 4cyl altezzas, vti-r civics, 1zz corollas etc etc and so on and so forth. But fark let them talk their crap about stivo's - we all know what they are capable of - we just have to shut them up on the track and on the strip ;)

well put.. no point wasting our energy arguing with those idiots. There will always be ignorant people like that ClioSport driver that know very little about other cars and think their car is the greatest, especially after reading MOTOR or WHEELS. I'm sure all of us have been through that some time in our driving lives :P we learn as we go along..

166kW and peak torque of 320Nm from 1600rpm plus the fact that my old man can get hold of the turbo from the Volvo S60R, lots of volvo connections. The standard intercooler can easily handle the heat from the larger, but far more efficient S60R Turbo and its a straight swap for the smaller XR5 unit which is sourced from a S40 T5. Should upgrade power to approx 205kW. Have any of you seen the Top Gear episode featuring this car? The thing handles incredibly, despite the fact that it's FWD. At $35990 minus a fleet discount, it was also great value for money.

I guess I know Volvo's engines and their potential. My first car was a 1986 Volvo 360GLT. The car looked like crap but with rear wheel drive, a 2L fuel injected 4cyl and a rear mounted transaxle gearbox it was perfectly balanced & lots of fun to drive. This thing could keep up with late 90's model rollas & pulsars etc. You could even bolt on the turbo & intercooler from the larger volvo's at the time with no dramas. Volvo engines are rock solid.

Don't worry, I'll still have the Stivo, the XR5 is a replacement for my company car. I could never part with the NA little warrior!!!! (Intake sound with CAI does it for me every time).

Seems like alot of these idiots don't really understand what a hot hatch is all about. If you wanted pure performance without practicality, why would you bother with a hatch? The only reason hot hatch's exist is because young guys without the money for sports cars decided to try & squeeze some extra peformance from their golf/corolla/pulsar/escort etc etc. Volkswagon cottoned on to the idea & decided to mass produce the GTi, the rest is history. :)

Clio sports are exceptional handling cars. Really good fun chuckable cars and with the iminent release of the New Clio sport im sure things will only get better. They even have a rear diffuser :o...thats crazy. They have torque all over the place and i think the good one is 0-100 in 6.9 seconds which is pretty darn quick. The ultimate hot hatch though has to be the clio v6...that thing is an absolute animal.

People discounting the Sportivo as a hot hatch is mainly due to the bad press it has gotten from motor/wheels mag. Is it our fault they never reached lift? :o.

Have you heard the burble these T5 engines make at idle? Sounds awesome. Put your foot down and the noise is very similiar to a V10. I know what you mean about the Heico & Evolve. Toyota engines are great, but my old man and I rebuilt the 360's engine after 350,000kms, what we thought would have to be pretty major was just a new set of piston rings and a timing belt. My old man wasn't suprised, he's been working on these things for years.

Why not consider the XR5 Shao? Same chassis, engine and suspension as the S40T5, $25,000 less. No AWD though.

Hang on here, which clio is he talking about? The 4 cylinder or v6 one? I'm assuming the 4 since the 6 is in a completely different league!

Even the 4 cylinder one, most of the time, the clio would be quicker than the Corolla sportivo. They do consistent low 14's down the strip man. Not sure what modifcations they had, but they aren't snails.

A stock Stivo (with K&N panel filter) is neck and neck with one of these Pugeot180Gti (with filter mod too and 15inch steel wheels instead of 17s and with Azenis RT215) down Wakefield's straight, nothing to give except in 4th which i believe the Stivo reels it in slightly. The Pugeot revs to 7300-7400rpm. SO guys the ClioSport 182 is capable but te Stivo is no slouch and revved out to 4th, watch out! B)

The clio was the one that had a rolling start on me. I guess it was the 172. I test drove a 182 when I was looking for a new car (found the sportivo) and I thought the thing was ugly, went well, was cramped and was a rattle trap :S even more than the sportivo lol. tivo is nicer inside too.
