I'm thinking about buying a touchscreen DVD head unit. I had a Clarion VRX756VD. But i would like something to fit snugly into the fitting i have in my car now. So i was wondering you guys/gals reckon is the best thing in touch screen Double Din head units?

I like the Eclipse AVN series. Highly recommended. Expensive though, but you get for what you pay.

Others to look for are the Pioneer AVH-P6850DVD and Alpine IVA-W200E. The Alpine is a little less expensive but has an excellent and better screen. The Pioneer offers indash 6 disc changer. Interfaces on both units are very good.

Can't go wrong with either of them IMO. Just a matter of how much you're willing to pay.

I have the Alpine IVA W200Ri (like the E with a few added bits). Best investment ever. Fits the hole perfectly and very user friendly. Came with full speed I-Pod connection too. I also found a site that has many cool backgrounds for download.

I'll vote for the Alpine too....and it makes a nice clicky feel under your finger when you touch the screen...

I have the pioneer AVHP6850DVD. awesome head unit, heaps of differant displays for when your playing music, and as big bum said its a 6 disc DVD changer all in one great unit. the only thing i dont like about it is that it only fast forwards music in continous 4sec increments and doesnt get faster. but how often do you FF to half a song. Anyway it looked the most stylish when i was looking for a unit. i love it. :D

just dont go for JVC double din i had that aswell in my other car and i ended up taking it back, didnt like it at all, but if you havent got lots of $$ it is a cheap way of getting into a dvd/monitor

Hi Guys,

I too am looking for double din head unit and am still undecided on either the Pioneer AVHP6850DVD or Alpine IVA W200Ri.

Do you know if these head units have sat nav ?

they don't come with it. You have to hook up sat nav seperatly, but it will display through either head unit

i reckon the AVN6000 eclipse, damn fine unit.

Very nice unit this one, I looked at one. But for more than twice what I paid for the alpine unit . . . . . .

Basically I could have added Nav, Bluetooth and the whizz bang equaliser unit and still come out cheaper than the eclipse.

Sorry if this sounds like a dumb question but do these double din decks have a detachable face/screen?

No none do that ive seen,i think it may have something to do with the faces being motorized. all the units bolt on to your car from the side brackets. if someone wanted your head unit they would be there for little while. you have to pull apart the middle of your dash to get to it.

Do these headunits play DVD-ROM format i.e. DVD's with data/MP3's?

Yeah, they should they are DVD Headunits

Be careful of this, as I think you'll find that most won't play MP3 DVDs only, MP3 CDs. That's certainly the case with the Eclipse, and I think it was also with most of the others I recently looked at.

I've got two Eclipse AVNs. They are simply brilliant, and worth the $.

I've had a full Alpine set up in my old 89 rolla SX and was extremely happy with the brand. So I'm picking the Alpine head unit all the way.

I was looking into the Alpine IVA W200Ri as my first choice.

But not doing Audio for a while yet in my car. Last mods ;)

Alpine has been a good brand for a long time now, previously only sold in car audio specialist stores. but now JB HIFI are selling the alpine brand and they go through alot of stock, so i wouldnt be surprised if the quality goes down hill trying to keep up with demand.

I hope not they make really good amps!

Another reason why i chose Pioneer for my monitor was because of the high quality of there T.V's. they seem to be one of the best on the market.

They're spacers alright. No double din unit is going to cover the hole completely.
