The Official TOCAU ZRE Corolla FAQ

Recommended Posts

Bill is going to sticky/pin this.

Since ZREs are becoming more common, I thought I should make a 'ZRE FAQ' like the "ZZE FAQ" that currently exists. smile.gif

So like the "ZZE FAQ" thread (props to Evan), this FAQ will be constantly expanding as time goes on. If there is a question here that is not answered, try doing a search first before posting another thread. If you think there is something that I should add, don't hesitate to PM me (this will help reduce chatter in the thread). Hope this is useful for future questions.

Please check part numbers with manufacturer before placing any orders, as I WON'T be held responsible!

Q) What is the difference between a Pre-Facelift ZRE and a Facelift ZRE Corolla?

A) Simply External differences.

The Pre-Facelift ZRE (below) - 2007 - late 2009

corolla02.jpg

200909050703192007-2009_Toyota_Corolla_ZRE152R_Ascent_5-door_hatchback_01.png

The Facelift ZRE has a 'sharper' front (different grill, headlights & foglights) and different rear (different taillight, different shape bummer & with reflectors). In terms of interior, facelift has a slightly different steering wheel shape, different headunit and different looking handbrake.

Facelift ZRE (below) - late 2009 - current

faceliftzre.jpg

Q) What is the difference between '07-'08 ZREs with '09 ZREs?

A) Both are pre-facelift ZREs. Differences are:

i) Gear ratios (slightly different and '09 ZRE has longer throw).

ii) '07-'08 ZREs have metal-type oil filters whereas '09 ZREs have a paper filter type.

iii) '07-'08 Levin ZRs have keyless entry sensors only on the driver's door, whereas '09 ZRs have it on front passenger side as well.

iv) '09 ZREs and up have VSC.

1. TRD Parts

For all your JDM TRD goodies, look here!

2. Wheels

The stock wheel sizes for the ZRE are:

i) Ascent: 15x6 steel with 195/65R15 91H tires

ii) Ascent Sport, Conquest, Levin SX/ZR & Ultima: 16x6.5 +45 alloy with 205/55R16 91V tires

Stud pattern: All grades - 5x114.3

Wheel nut thread: M12 x P1.5

Want to buy wheels? Check first using Wheel Offset Calculator & Tire Size Calculator.

Generally, people have gone 17"/18" by 7-8" wide rims with +35 to +40 offset. Best to search or ask/PM someone first before buying! smile.gif

3. Air Intake Mods

Before buying any intake mods, please read this thread!. There have been some "Check Engine Light" (CEL) problems that initially came up; however, these seem to have somewhat disappeared. Please read it before making any decisions.

Also, it has been debated here whether the pod needs covering or not. Make your own decision.

4. Suspension:

Q) Is the suspension for the ZRE hatch and ZRE sedan the same? Is the Facelift ZRE suspension the same as the Pre-facelift ZRE?

A) Yes, the chassis for the ZRE hatch and ZRE sedan, similarly for the facelift ZRE, are the same.

Part numbers for various manufacturers are given, they are in order of front springs and rear springs respectively, unless stated.

All toyota part numbers below

http://www.japan-parts.eu/

Full facelift ZRE 154 parts map as below, I don't know what language is that, but there are japanese in the picture (I can read japanese)

http://au.toyotaowne...showtopic=29681

Below is the English version of ZRE-151 parts
http://www.toyodiy.c...L-GEMNKC_1.html

The part number might not be the same in Australia, but these maps can save so many people

For brake option, DBA has slotted disc for $125 pair, sold in pedders

QFM has A1RM and HPX brake pad for our cars, I have A1RM for $165 pair, please contact GSL rally sport for details, need to wait 4 weeks for custom made

They also get Remsa brake pad which cost $110 pair for the front

Pedders also got camber bolt at the front, maximum -2.5 can be achieved. No camber at the rear, but the rear camber is -1.25 if you lower your car

If you plan to chip your car, unichip is an option for $1.5K+, check my thread for details. Not recommend unless you are really serious

If you want spolier, mudflag, skirt, fog light, please see

oh, also quickly could just ask, as me and the gf are looking at some wheels, looking at around 17x7.5 what would be a good offset? im guessing between +40 to +45? would +38 be ok?

17x7.5 with +38 should be fine. +45 might be too much for 7.5". Wheel Offset Calculator.

If you want to find the right tyre to fit, try Tire Size Calculator.

Is there meant to be a difference at all between the wheel specs for the hatchback and sedan?

I emailed the Toyota people and got a reply saying the sedan was 5x100. I didn't actually think it'd be different. =S

Watch this post, I'll confirm but I believe it should be the same, 5x114.3 stud pattern.

Forgot to mention I got one of the current Corolla's, not the earlier model. If that helps. =S

Haven't confirmed yet, but it is 5x114.3. Reason being, one of the guys on here has a sedan (HungryforaRolla) has wheels given to him by a friend who has a hatch. Any Corolla manufactured after 2007 (preface ZRE) to current (facelift ZRE) have the same ZRE152 chassis and same 5x114.3 stud pattern.

Hey guys,

I have a Toyota corolla ascent 2008. I need to flush the brake fluid. I bought genuine Toyota brake fluid and I'm thinking of doing it by myself or give to a mechanic to do it for me.

If I do it myself I need to know the best way to do it with tools and steps and whether there is a garage that I can hire for an hour or two to do it.

If I'm to give it to a mechanic I need to know how much it will cost given that I will provide the brake fluid. Also if you know a good mechanic around Sydney cbd or meadowbank

Cheers,

Ramses

Hey Ramses, I don't know too much about flushing the brake fluid (have never done it) but I have heard it's relatively easy and I would assume it's similar to flushing other cars. Doing a quick search, looks like your question has already been answered. :)

Hey mate. It would be fine on stock shocks but be mindful that they will wear out a little faster. Once the stock shocks wear out, it is recommended/ideal you get aftermarket shocks to suit the springs. Hope that helps.
