SRI = defect and $75 fine.

correct?

whitestivo

I think......

SRI is ok as long as its secured... and not an Oiled filter.

defect yes if the pod is exposed but theres is not much point in doing it at all if u box it

wouldnt a CAI be defectable too tho?

black is the go then :) u said use can do it at work, so ill be happy just getting the mild steel and getting use to put the HPC on.

back OT, JIN u obviously used heat protective paint on that cover right? and did u spray it with plastic primer before painting it?

Yes and No.

I used heat protective paint but didn't use the primer.

Just painted several light layers on it.

Pod can be exposed, just needs to be secured. Keep in mind most of the time they won't pass on a drive-by noise test, but most cops will let this slide.

So... I jumped onto the bandwagon and painted my engine cover as well. Actually, I was just focussed on painting the rear emblem, but figured that since I will have a bit of paint spare, I will do the engine cover while I'm at it. I was going to go for a metallic black, but finally settled on a metallic dark grey with a tint of purple in it.

Both are currently still drying at the moment so I will take photos of it all in place tomorrow. As it stands in these pics, they both have six layers of paint and two layers of clear coat, with another two to be applied. And yes... I do notice that I forgot to cut out the middle of the 'A' in 'DUAL'. I realised this once I started the clear coat. My bad.

This is what it looked like after one layer of paint. I actually liked this effect, but oh wells:

when painting plastic bits liek the engine cover and mudguards do you really have to prime it first? what happens if you dont?

Well..I didn't put any prime before I painted but it looks OK for me.

I just did 4~5 light layers with spray paint.

If you're chasing Professional job done, you may have to prime it first, probably.

It is highly recommended that you prime it first. If you don't, you run a higher chance of the paint not adhering to the surface and flaking off over time.

On the topic, I got a little carried away and painted a couple of extra bits. Nothing fancy:

Yeah, it's a bit hard to see in the photos given the lighting. The only other things painted are the radiator cover and the fuse box cover. Just helps the engine cover blend in more.

Why didn't you have that when I saw your car :(

Looks hot man, will look better with a nice shiny intake sitting right next to it.
