  1. Scratch this idea - it had occurred to me I could just use the entire steering wheel assembly etc from a Lexus IS350 - comes standard with paddle shifters and is a straight bolt up to the Aurion. Even found the complete wheels cheaply enough, however the Lexus airbag is worth a pretty penny and it was a bit of a stretch for the going price of the wheel alone. That said though, it did give me a few ideas of how to make up my own paddle shifter. Got the steering wheel out of the car this morning and completely disassembled - not as accommodating as the Lexus wheel, but not beyond hope either.
  2. haha fair nuff, great to see others have been looking into this mod. Been doing some more research and some fiddling with some spare parts - going to try something really different. Might take some time to get it all together though.
  3. That's not the Fujita kit that has the filter down by the bumper is it? If so then the heat shield will do very little except maybe keep the piping a bit cooler.
  4. Sitting in the car, sipping (ie gulping) the scotch has got me thinking of some radical ideas for it. First up is a way to switch off the traction control with a button. DJKOR mentioned a theory to me in which if you could make the ECU think the front wheels were going at the same speed as the back, then it doesn't matter what the front wheels were doing (ie same effect of turning T/C off, but without the error codes or brake-dancing ritual). I like to keep things neat though, so does anyone know of any T/C switches (from any model vehicle) that wouldn't look out of place in that panel of switches on the right side of the dash, just below the cluster and to the right of the steering wheel? Also, opinions people - what do we reckon about having a paddle shift on the Aurion? The idea is to wire it up to function the same way as the centre console shifter (in essence you could change gears "sequentially" with both). After being on a mountain cruise as DJKOR's passenger, I saw the console shifter is actually a little inconvenient at times and that a steering wheel paddle shifter like on some sports cars would be more useful (haha Daryl, betcha though I was too busy being scared ****less to notice these things?) I would need to move the cruise control to facilitate this mod, but do we really need the cruiser control stalk to move with the steering wheel? I'm hardly ever needing to adjust the cruise control with the steering wheel at full lock.
  5. sorry to hear about this mate. I'll keep an eye out and hopefully be able to dig something up.
  6. I'm not even going to bother updating the other thread. Basically with this unit, don't bother. It feels very cheap, doesn't fit the dash well, difficult to use etc etc. I did write a 2 page review however as I've convinced the seller to not bother importing anymore of this type there's no point posting it - he's going to wait a few weeks until another, more powerful (800mhz, 256mb ram) unit arrives and I'll let you all know about that one.
  7. I'm about to have a look at a brand new unit that easydeals636 will have in stock soon, so if you can wait a week or so I'll be posting up another review. its on ebay now the new one..looks good. I'm currently reviewing this new unit now. Will update the other GPS thread when done. First impressions - looks good, functions not so good.
  8. said "**** you" to the manifold polishing, reconnected all the wiring, gave the battery a good charged and brought the ol girl back to life - nearly.
  9. that must've been after I have wussed out and gone home. Sounds pretty good, haven't been out in town for a **** long time
  10. Damn. I'm quite tempted as well. If I get a set, shall I throw in an extra pair for you? Yep, let me know if you're getting some. FYI I was trying to see whether a few layers of clear epoxy resin over the 3m Carbon fibre vinyl wrap would result in a much closer look to real CF - The result is a shiny, black/grey surface with no hint of CF.
  11. Damn. I'm quite tempted as well. If I get a set, shall I throw in an extra pair for you? I shall let you know shortly - currently doing a bit of experimenting and i wont have the results until tommorow avo
  12. here's some REAL carbon fibre eyelids http://www.rstyleracing.com/index.aspx?ProductID=Product-101005120873651 Have to say I'm extremely tempted.
  13. thank **** I left when I did too. **** was did it pelt down not long after I got home.
  14. finish work tomorrow round 6pm, still haven't figured out the quickest way in. Will see how the day gets on
  15. for me it's dependent on the weather - they're predicting showers/storms tomorrow.

  17. some mention of XXXXgold... he was a well respected user on the ol streetcommodores forum, always providing handy QLD legal advice. Has ol'mate actually gone to Boost now?
  18. Frankly you can have your phone however you like it, the only key part (in queensland at least) is that you must NOT touch your mobile phone at any time. People have been caught using the GPS system on their phone because it is foremost a mobile phone before it is a GPS unit. As for using the speaker phone, that implies that you had to push a button on the phone to answer it first. Even bluetooth systems that require you to push a button on the phone to answer are illegal. So in reality, the accepted legal loophole is a bluetooth system or hardwired system that let's you answer the phone without touching the phone itself.
  19. To the Bald indian in the silver Aurion Prodigy that was neither a facelift or pre-facelift model - Please feel free to actually stop and say "hi" next time I'm loving the Toyota badge on the bike, the cops just ignored me as I rode home. Next time I'm going to try the old Holden badge I have here - bet I get pulled over 10 times. Mick - does Sarah know you love the big black kock?
  20. fukin snorlax, just like his car - half asleep all the time hehe hahaha sorry Ash, that name is gonna stick
  21. I would suggest you check out www.redbook.com.au You can select whatever vehicle you are looking for, and it will also tell you the average km's you should expect them to have.
  22. Forgive me if I'm completely off the mark here, but how many countries with LHD cars measure speed in km/h? Would certainly be useful on some occasions, and I quite like it (would prefer a blue color though). However for that money I'd be happy to go without.
  23. Yep, someone has essentially taken the 3m carbon wrap film, cut it to a particular shape, and is now charging a huge excess for it. Proper, actual carbon fibre eyelids would look **** hot but only with other carbon fibre features on the car me thinks
