  1. We have a white unmarked aurion at Boondall, it's used by the taccrime guys.
  2. The awkwardness when the cops showed up was priceless. On that note though guys, be aware I cannot save you against a truly nazi cop - indeed against those kind of coppers, even their own mothers aren't safe.
  3. I actually thought you weren't serious when you posted this. Yes, using it as you've described is illegal. And stupid. However, to try to save you time in creating future threads I shall answer some questions in advance Q - Can I add "police" lights to my car and pull people over, just for laughs? A - No. Q - Does my car, being an ex Police car, have more performance than a standard Aurion? A - No. Q - I've found a Police radio app on my Iphone, is it illegal for me to listen to this? A - No. Also some Qld Police radios are now digitally encoded so you won't be able to listen to them anyway. Q - I've just been pulled over for impersonating a Cop. How can I get out of this? A - You brought it on yourself. Now bend over for Big Billy.
  4. Looking for a lift on the odd chance I actually have that day off from work
  5. **** I hate when things like this happen. I hear about it all the time, and EVERY time the grubs are wearing hoodies - They should be outlawed, the only reason people buy them is so they can commit offences!
  6. It really is like asking how long a piece of string is - it would depend on what duties it performed, which station/s assigned to etc etc. Some of these cars are completely destroyed before they reach 20k, others are in pristine condition when they go on sale. In my experience though, the series 1 Aurion's were fairly new to the Police around the time you got it and as such all the detectives and more senior Police nabbed them for themselves - as such alot of Aurions escaped the most hazardous career for a car within the Police which is of course - general duties.
  7. Dee I can't guarantee the 23rd, it's the first day of a new roster than won't come out until mid October. The previous weekend is good though. I'll put a request through for it off but there aren't any guarantees
  8. Second attempt, 150 degrees for 15 minutes.... Yeah. Also I did discover something useful by this complete waste - The outside cover does have a press fit just like the headlights, yet is held in place with something closer to superglue than the silicon-type stuff used on the headlights. Because of this press fit, you can't even run a knife around it to cut the glue. So the end result is... You simply CANNOT disassemble Aurion taillights without completely destroying them in some way.
  9. I've had some "Clear" type Aurion taillights which some of you know I had troubles with recently when applying tinting spray to the outside. I won't say anymore aside that my experience wasn't positive and that I don't recommend anyone do the same on these particular types of taillights. As a result I do have several slightly damaged taillights sitting around which are ideal to experiment with. Tinting/painting the chrome surround on the taillight itself underneath the cover would achieve something very similar to my previous attempts, but would remain road legal (think blackened headlight mod). I'll update this thread as my failures progress. First attempt was placing the outside taillight into an oven, 120 degress for 15 minutes. Very mild temp but I didn't want to destroy the taillight on the first go. Result: The glue holding the clear plastic on these is no-where near as strong as the headlights, and there is no sticky residue (implies the need to be completely reglued on assembly). A problem however is that the clear plastic on these lights is EXTREMELY brittle. Yes even though the glue released without any drama, the plastic itself would crack at the slightest outward pressure. Even a hairline crack can ruin these. I continued on trying a few different methods as I worked my way around and eventually got the whole lot off (in several pieces). From this go I figure around 150 degrees for 20 minutes would allow the glue to unstick completely with minimal pressure on the cover. Further a sharp instrument to "cut" through the glue might help however even touching either of the mating surfaces under the cover will result in scratches so I'm not too keen on this idea. First attempt - total failure, but much learnt. Second attempt coming shortly. Pics too.
  10. There are some subtle differences in the 2nd one which makes it appear much higher quality than the originally posted one. I can see where they've tried to copy several items off the TRD bumpers. The end result in the 2nd pic isn't dead-set horrible, but still a bit gaudy. They need to create a whole new bumper instead of just bolting on a large lip kit
  11. I don't think they realise that spoilers aren't supposed to be as big as the bumper itself!
  12. Oh no... He didn't hit anything half decent did he? Because that WOULD have been a tragedy
  13. The external cover just unclips, I usually remove it by running a flathead around the sides and prising.
  14. A bit of an Ego massage every now and then ain't bad. BRB Shay's calling
  15. kinda redundant - if you get it then you've likely already seen it before
  16. Just found out my car battery is now sitting at 2 volts... first a cracked windscreen, now a screwed battery. It seems my car is not unlike a shark - if it stops moving, it dies :(
  17. I guess that's exactly why we were confused - as far as I know there is no such thing as a "pre-service" test drive unless they're trying to replicate a problem in order to properly diagnose it. So what has been the dealers reaction to this and proposed solution? At 75k in a car that is no longer produced, you have buckleys of getting a new TRD which in many ways is a shame; and warranty/liability laws mean the dealership is quite within its rights to just rebuild the engine rather than replace it with a new one (which REALLY sucks because an engine rebuilt by the cheapest bidder is likely to have the long term reliability as chinese knockoff whatever)
  18. Well define to me what you call a: Because to me, this sounds like it happened pre-delivery which means despite requests, you still could hae had 91/95 RON in the tank. Could there actually be any TRDs that have not yet been delivered? If so that's worse than the Ford GT debacle
  19. Recent experience has taught me that these engines can cop a fair bit of abuse, although under certain circumstances can be prone to detonation and/or intake flutter which is bloody hard to explain and still something that Daryl and I are only making an educated guess with. However the detonation is cause for concern, as under heavy, frequent acceleration with full throttle you can sometimes get detonation which can damage pistons etc like as you explained however its hard to imagine the detonation getting that bad before the engine management stepped in and put the car in limp home mode. As for damage extending elsewhere, the destruction itself should be very limited to within the engine itself- however the nature of driving that caused that in the first place would warrant a closer inspection of the gearbox as well I think.
  20. All the dash LEDs are the PLCC2 type Daryl referenced above. The disassembly isn't too hard, just time consuming as great care is required for many components. Unfortunately I lost ALL my pictures just recently when a virus killed my computer, so I can't give any guides. Compared to some of the clusters I've worked on, the Optitron dash is very well designed and logical in its construction so I'd imagine anyone with a bit of hobby level electrical know-how and confidence can work on it.
  21. this has been doing the rounds, and in this overly "kid gloves" world of liability we know live in I don't know how for even a second they could tell her that she still needed to do it to continue. Just watched it again, how the bugger does she still have a face?!
  22. I don't think that first car was originally supercharged... It's just using the supercharged engine cover (do they even have the supercharged camry in the states?!) Further even if it was, a custom turbo setup offers more than what can be achieved in the factory supercharged setup (ie intercooler, more efficient, boost adjustable etc). Emissions can always be fixed. Some people just don't care too. Can't comment on the rav4 engine bay, but I reckon if you can shove a 6L v8 into a small hatchback then you can certainly supercharge or turbo a rav4
  23. Ahem.... Try telling that to this guy: http://www.toyotanation.com/forum/showthread.php?t=347378 Or the guys over at Cobb Tuning: Bugger me that Cobbtuning kit looks the goods! Even get to keep the battery up front which is a nice bonus.
  24. Just checked, I've got the weekend of the 16th off but can confirm the following one off...
