  1. get some shocks, too. we dun wanna start the "i told u it would leak" speech again. ← I will strongly reccommend ;) My ride quality is pretty crap now, wouldn't say dangerous, and i only lowered mine 30-35mm. Still has 1.5-2inch gap between tyres and body.
  2. 4 is my favourite! :) Get them get them!! Also with regards to tyres, i think 205/40 will give an incorrect load rating of 84 wouldn't it? You would like 87 or higher, plus i wouldn't want too low profile tyres, it can buckle the rims easier and rattle your tooth fillings out of the sockets everytime you are on Sydney roads ;) I am battling with 50 profile tyres already, miss the cushy ride of 55 profile :P
  3. So i guess 0W40 or 5W50 from Mobil or Penzoil will be great for the track where temps are really high.
  4. In the last month I have tried unsuccesfully twice to get this information from Toyota Europe and Toyota Hellas. I asked them the following questions: (1) Why oil SAE 5w30 is recommended (according to Corolla's manual) for ambient temperature only up to 10C for the 2ZZ-GE engine, while it can be used above 38C with the other Corolla engines? (2) Does this apply regardless of the oil type: Fully synthetic, semi-synthetic or mineral? (3) I have seen in the internet that the viscosity specs, at 40C and 100C, of oils SAE 5w30 and 10w30 are rather similar. Then why 10w30 is OK for temperatures above 38C for the 2ZZ-GE engine, according to our manual? (4) Given that SAE 5w30 is not good above 10C, what will be the recommended range of temperature for 2ZZ-GE engine for fully synthetic 5w40 oil? (5) Finally, what SAE of fully synthetic oil should be used with the 2zz-GE engine for Greek ambient temperature range of -10C to 40C? I guess it will be helpful to all if somebody else could get replies from an official Toyota site. Do you know how we could email directly to Japan? ← I would have emailed Castrol regarding their 5W30 oil but it says on their bottle that its reccomended for all hi-performance 4 cylinder cars requiring 5W30 or 10W30 viscosity. Or Mobil/Motul/Shell etc regarding their specific oils as the manufacturers would know best. Z
  5. haha Dylan can't resist the temptation no more!!
  6. Full course? Not cheap but worth it if you are serious about your driving ;) ← Yes it isn't cheap, but it is worth it. I only did the level 1 course and you do learn a lot in proper vehicle control. I'll see if I can organise a blended course which has the basics and a little track work. I'd probably need more numbers. Got friends or relatives who might be interested? ← Me interested!
  7. Nice :) Them big rims 17s or 18s? Z
  8. The Gti180 is also a cooool 100kg lighter :D
  9. Quuuuuuuuuuuuuuiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii Thanks man, yeh i've always wanted to go 16s just on the basis they are not too big nor small and i can get good tyres at a more reasonable price ;) I did consider getting the Falken RT225 semis too so i guess i have to find myself another set of wheels now since i am selling my stockies.. 15inch wheels might fit i don't know really, some say they don't but damn they will look ungly on the Corolla :P
  10. Influx & Dave: What abt the 30th June (Thursday) there is an Open Speed Day, maybe more people can come then? Don't think i can make the 22nd need the money :P Z
  11. Full course? Not cheap but worth it if you are serious about your driving ;)
  12. It was taily like you wouldn't believe, but I realised just how much room there is coming out of turn one, I was almost able to be in lift in 3rd on the exit, if you get the turn in right it just flows nicely as it straightens. But I straight away lost confidence in my tyres so backed off. Hopefully I'll have some semis next time I'm able to make it ;). rollamods - and it'll grow expinentially until people are bored of it!!! Maybe you should charge and make some cash out of it ;) ← I noticed that that too, and i was juggling between 2nd gear wheel spinning out in LIFT or 3rd gear having a smoother transition which is obviously better and quicker but the damn tyres just won't let you grip! p.s. MAP81 is going to be rich and famous, everyone i know that owns a car has seen that clip!!
  13. Yokohama C.drive for abt $260 in 215/45R17 87W i think, quoted by BobJane. They have a thread rating of 300 so should last a while. Z
  14. first of all tyre size and the type u can get in that size. try finding ultra high performance tyres for 215/40r17, let alone semi slicks. even if u do, tyre wear will cost more than your fuel bill per km. and it's not the diameter of your wheel that makes it handle better. it's the profile of the tyre and how wide it get's stretched to. low profile tyres make the car feel very sharp, at road speeds. that can work against u as well, coz it makes the car very 'skippy'. on the other hand, high performance tyres have a much stiffer sidewall to compensate for the 'floating' feeling u get from a taller sidewall. semi slicks although have relatively taller sidewalls they have steel belts in them that make them really stiff. the wider u stretch a tyre, the better response and control u get, since there is more tension in the tyre to stop it wandering around under load. i dunno if i've explained it right. but anyone who's been in my car when i've had the 17s and the 16s would understand better. ← Darkeh: The wheels are not heavy, i could pick it up with one arm easy out of the box and i am only little. I would estimate they weigh about 6-8kg maybe less and this is without tyres. You can drop by BobJane and the usually have a set of 15inch ones on display and they light! Eddy: My car is lowered wit Whiteline springs about 35mm but still has a 1.5-2 inch gap between tyres and guard. And 16inch tyres are way cheaper and there are much more options to choose from ;) After i got my new wheels and yokohama tyres being 205/50 profile being stretched over the 7inch rim, i noticed the much sharper steering response over the 195/55 Turanzas. But i also noticed the discomfort when driving over suburban potholes and undulations compared to the 55 profile tyres. 1 more thing i noticed was that if the tyres were another half inch wider it would have been illegal because its right at the limit now, can't go any wider with these rims. I also noticed slight wheelspin and torquesteer in LIFT in 1st and 3rd (not 2nd) tonight when i raced a FC RX7 which left me for dead! I put the spinnin down to new rubber I also blame my 2 mates that were in the car for the loss though :P Other than that i absolutely love the wheels, they were exactly the look i wanted! More pics: Z
  15. Thank you thank you Although i would have loved some Enkeis or Buddy Clubs but i'm happy with these.
  16. U MUST BE KIDDING ME for that price!!! These were wheels i was looking at but the rims alone are worth more than $1250 at BobJane i think. Shao's RS+M costs $1600 for rims only. Your offer is either a hoax or you are simply a very "nice" guy. More details please.. pm me if you like. Z
  17. Here is another one.. doesn't it look like the Stivo in my Avatar :P
  18. Got my new wheels fitted today! They are 16x7inch RJR Circuit in "Sports Bronze" with Yokohama C.Drive Tyres 205/50 R16 87W. The wheels cost me $130 each and the Tyres $200 each. Got them from Bob Jane and i love the new look sooo much!! I got a lot of attention at Bob Jane with people saying the colour matches really well which i was originally apprehensive about but it pretty much turned out to be the match i wanted Here are some crappy pics i took at night.. when its daylight i will get some real nice ones B)
  19. I see, thaks guys bcuz i really like the TRD gear knob (white) but if its lighter on te stock shifter it will feel worse. Maybe on the quickshifter its ok but i think i am quite happy with the shifting distance, just lacks the smoothness of the Honda shift gates which are at 45degrees. ;)
  20. You sure it was 180km/h Dylan ? I never really looked at my speedo to be honest but just estimating in 4th gear if you drive through the kink with accelerator still to the floor i am guessing 4th gear 7500-8000rpm? What speed would that be? But i never had that much confidence in my tyres and brakes to start with so my accelerator was always eased off when approaching the kink :P But with the stock suspension didn't you get real taily!!
  21. 5W30 and 10W30 should have the same max temperature but 5W30 would have higher cold temperature tolerance? I have also been told 5W30 would be thinner than 10W30, thinnest would be 0W oils. Correct me if i'm wrong, also if 5W30 oil is prohibited Toyota's mechanic would not have accepted the oil i have been bringing in for service for over a year and 20,000kms. Z
  22. Quick question... Anyone know where in Sydney I could find some of these fluids? Preferably the motor oil? The FUCH'S site didn't offer much help... ← My local mechanic stocks FUCH's Titan oils, might try them out next service and ask where they get them from.
  23. Would love to Dave but i am currently on unpaid sickies :( which mean no pay BUT i can probably try to swap shifts with somone just to go to Wakefield Park!! Will let yous know :)
  24. I was thinking of the 17th initially which is this Friday! But 22nd i'm working day shift :( When is the next one? I think the 31st or near the end of this month there is another open speed day isn't there? Z
