You have to be Careful with the V8's and the reason is as follows. Ford USA stopped building the 5.0L 'Windsor' V8, so Ford AUS bought as many as they could so they could continue to offer it on the AU Falcons. Whilst in Storage for so long, some of these engines developed a little rust is the cylinder linings and the worse ones had to be honed out. Once this was done, these became the better engines! But those that didn't undergo this procedure didn't quite go the same. So test drive a few and you will no doubt feel quite a difference between a good example and a bad one. Obviously, buy the one with more go.

I'm talking in terms of 4WD's and H3 isn't really big at all. It's built on the chassis of the previous generation Izuzu/Holden Rodeo....

I would not go near the things test drove a H3 to have a look see, quality was so bad I was worried about it making it back to the dealership intact, absolutely woeful. Then the handling is also completely crapola.

I would take him up on a run (Or two or three) at the track. Why the hell not, He has spent twice as much on his car, so it would be sweet to make him eat his words.

He has the all new model with the 5 stud hubs so they may fit provided tyre profile and offset is all ok.

It is dry, but also washable.

I would start with the basics first. I had once over-oiled my airfilter which in turn soiled my MAF and caused my engine to ping/knock at about 3000rpm when accelerating under load such as going up a hill or full of passengers. I cleaned the filter again, cleaned the MAF with spray on electrical contact cleaner (JAYCAR green can) and it's all gone. So give your MAF a clean, and fill up with 98 at a different Petrol station than your usual and see if this makes the problem go away. Hopefully it's as simple as this.

With that said though, there are things you can do to make your car look cleaner without actually washing it. I do it quite alot, it just involves cleaning the windows with a chamous, clean the wheels with a soft rag or brush and the car immediately looks cleaner even though it's still in fact dirty. But no, I wouldn't really use those waterless wash products.
