  1. Check with your insurer that they will cover your mods and if they don't this year and you choose someone else try again next year. Many years ago I bought a Falcon (before discovering the error of my ways and converting to Toyota) and was insured with NRMA when I saved up a bit of money I decided to do a few mods and found NRMA would not cover me due to the suspension and the wheels. Suspension only lowered the car the same as the factory option sports suspension but NRMA would not cover it (after asking a few questions I found they would not even cover it if I had ticked the box for the optional factory sports suspension at time of ordering, but they would cover the XR6??) so I shopped around and Suncorp were actually cheaper for the modified car (suspension, exhaust, chip, wheels, air filter, wing and stereo - all of which were legal) than NRMA were for the basic car. However a year or two later Ford released the GT with the same size wheels as I had and suddenly NRMA would cover me and were cheaper now than Suncorp
  2. There are rumors going around all the time but nothing definite at this stage the best suggestion seems to be to make your own
  3. Unfortunately no sign of it yet in the Corolla specifications on the Toyota Website
  4. Actually they are quite a bit more I was quoted $650 each delivered before the Aussie dollar dived (85JPY to 1AUD at the time) hate to think what they are now, remeber these aren't light or small so freight is a killer. Mind you though I made enquires about going the full genuine route with BBS, just under 2k per wheel. Remember in general you get what you pay for, I would probably not go for less than 200 per rim and you are probably looking about the same for each tyre (don't skimp on them or you may find out the hard way the difference in quality). So allow 1500 or so for a package
  5. Believe it or not ask your local Toyota Parts the price on the TRD Aurion 19s I was told $250 a piece
  6. Isn't it a bit lame to ask for peoples opinion on your photoshop and then when they disapprove to imply they are e-thugs
  7. Thanks for the advice I have actually gone with a Corolla, I had an Aurion for 2 months while I waited for the Corolla to be delivered and I have discovered that I needed manual transmission (which I was getting on the Corolla). I find the Corolla a good size cabin with plenty of space with out going overboard
  8. in all honesty i beg to differ ..... i'd go performance then handling & braking @ the same time ...... u have no idea what sort of handling & braking u need unless u knw wat sort of performance ur gonna run ..... i wouldnt put the same setup on a car running 150kw vs 250kw ..... that would b silly For someone such as yourself who from what I have read has taken a structured approach to your development this is fine, but as has been seen over the years with the V8 and Turbo imports crowds a lot of people who are working on tight budgets go "performance then brakes and/or handling, wait a minute I'll spend that extra cash on more performance now instead of brakes and handling and leave that for my next chunk of cash" the end result being a car that is overpowered and under braked and likely to crash
  9. Where is Spillage? I think I'll have to PM him. Seriously do your braking, handling and performance (and in that order) before you do your 'go fast' cosmetics
  10. Actually I was talking more about this sort of article http://www.brisbanetimes.com.au/news/busin...9794357397.html
  11. Has anyone else heard of the news of Toyota making a USD 2billion loss this year, apparently the first in 70 years? The article on Channel 10 was interesting they showed footage of TRD Aurions being assembled and at the same time were saying that the company's global loss would not have an impact on Australian operations
  12. That's what is known in the industry as "a foot in the door". You have to start somewhere, with something. What Toyota Aus didn't do then was put their shoulder to the door to stop it jamming their foot. Instead, they woosed out like little girls and pulled the foot out, only to try again properly a few years later with a nice big shoulder-charge called the ZZE123. Interestingly enough a few reviews of the Turbo Sportivo (with assembly in I think three different locations for the one vehicle (turbo was not fitted at the factory where the car was made)) said it was actually a logistics exercise rather than an attempt at a sporty product. Obviously with the axing of the Celica and the MR2 (not to mention no Supra for a number of years) the natural conclusion is that Toyota is not interested in a sporty/performance image. And another thing that puzzles me (and a few others) why is the rally team branded TRD and using Corollas if there was no intention to release a TRD Corolla (yes the use of a Corolla makes sense given its shape and size but why not just leave the branding as it was instead of changing to TRD) and very few dealers a really interested in selling the TRD parts (Castle Hill excepted)
  13. There are a few around (currently names escape me) ask at some after market body kit places (like ssv.com.au, and they will point you in the right direction. There was one out of Melbourne who was mentioned in the Camry section of this forum who was able to do individual creations and work "inspired by others"
  14. The TTE wheels are available as 18x7.5J to take 225/40 R18 tyres and are a 9 spoke not 10
  15. $199 Non members $149 for members a bit extra for 4WD and luxury cars see http://www.mynrma.com.au/cps/rde/xchg/mynr...inspections.htm
  16. Ask to take one of the service people for a drive with you and show them the noise, then when they have fixed it ask one of them to come for a drive with you to confirm the noise has gone. And then trade it for a Toyota
  17. Drem car is an aurion sx6 or higher. maybe even a turbo charged aurion. shrug a young lad can dream Then go out and get yourself one even if it is a second hand ATX you can always take your bits with you when you upgrade to a Sportivo
  18. Not sure but I think this is what is being released in UK as the Urban Cruiser
  19. Then your Autobarn is giving you a good deal as Repco are advertising k&n's from $95.99 with filters to suit a BA Falcon at $99.99 and a VT-VZ Commodore at $102.99. Given Camry's are not quite as common it would follow that they would be a bit more expensive
  20. Also two of the rivals in the Aust market Lancer and Civic offer interior lighting as an accessory (in the Aust market) Standard Civic Civic Type R
  21. One small thought, Mr Justice's Corolla is an auto and virtually inherited (two factors I had forgotten when I commented earlier). One question he needs to ask himself "Is this the car he really wants to be driving for the next few years?", no point blowing (no pun intended) serious time and money supercharging it if what he really wants to be driving is a Hilux (or an Aurion or something else remarkably different to a Corolla)
  22. At the time I bought one for my 36 series Camry it was $135 and had been told (by a Auto one/Repco etc) k&n was $125 to $130 so I went for the extra kW that the TRD badge gives (yes I know no one sees it hidden in the air box but I feel good about it)
  23. Terry Shields also uses them (or at least did when we got our Camry)
  24. I have leather on my Levin SX cost was 1800 +GST. When I was getting quotes prices ranged 1800 exGST ti 2500 inc GST. Make sure it is a reputable leather putting on person (sorry cannot remember the correct name for them). Also have leather on the 36 series Camry again 2k
  25. Well this has all come to nothing. Has anyone heard anything from other sources since the Motor article?
