Ive had a stainless steel gear knob made for my car weighing around 3kg. Will this cause any problems? The shifting is so much cleaner now i guess because of that extra weight making the gear go into the gate

heavier gear knobs are way better than light ones.

id like a heavy gear knob but the stock stivo one looks classy .... i dont want a cheap looking knob... any one have suggestions on which and where to buy?

I got mine made out of a piece of off-cut at a local place that specialise in stainless steel fabrication. I know one of the guys there, he took a measurement of the stock gear knob and knocked something up with left over from a job. Ill try and take a photo of it when i get a chance. Cost was basically nothing

I prefer a heavy gear knob as it gives me a firm shift...........my only current problem is that when I try to hard to shift into 2nd gear and it goes pass the gate and I'm stuck in no mans land...........so bloody annoying.

if the original shift quality is good, i'd prefer a lighter shiftknob. heavier ones seems to numb things for me.

I find lighter ones give too much vibration and feedback through the shaft. Heavier is more direct... but I guess I'm used to handling a big heavy knob :P :whistling::rolleyes:

When you get a gear knob you have to be careful as many of these aftermarket ones will sit very high up and look wierd.

what about the TRD one u can get of eBay etc... is it much heavier?

i find alot of vibrations and noises seem to be coming from the gear knob area .... any one else find this?

whats the weight of the stock sportivo knob?

Posted

Weight of stock sportivo gear knob is approximately 220grams......its quite light. The suzuki swifts current gear knob from the factory weighs in at 400grams while the suzuki liana is closer to 500grams.

Here are the pics of the Gear knob. I weighed it at work, its 3.0 kg

loooks awsomeee .. id love 1 ... do u have a price, can u get another by any chance??? does it fit perfectly?

Posted

3kg is quite heavy.....I would be worried about the fact that because its too heavy it might put too much load on the shifting cradle while shifting.

It was made as a one off from scrap from a large job they were doing.

I thought it being too heavy but ive noticed that im not getting anymore gear selector cable rattle or anything like that...As long as the cables wont snap then i dont see a problem....I might ask my mechanic when i take the car for a service.

Which one? The normal leather one, the round leather one, or the round-ish duracon/plastic one?

I've got the normal leather one, it's not that heavy but it looks good and sits at the same height as the stock one, plus it screws on first time (doesn't have to tap a thread, or use silly sleeves and grub screws)

The Razo ones come with 3 different threads to suit several vehicles. Mine is 400g which feels really heavy, can't imagine 3kg!!!

Also I have the Echo Sportivo gearknob which is like a Corolla Sportivo knob but with 5 gears
