Hey guys,

I just took a quick look at the light fixtures, and BKS, you are right :D

But is there anything else that would be holding these lights in, cause i want to be able to do it by 1 weekend?

I have located the bolts, so when i go to take them off, should i do it slowly so i dont lose any bolts?

the whole thing is held in place by 3 bulb thats it :) should take you 15 mins to take it out an 2 hrs max to do the rest?

The Bulb holders are readily available.

they are everywhere...

Try a trailer builder or a boat store or Caravan store... think how many applications are required to have BRAKE/STOP lights fitted to them.

Wow, I would've thought Repco stores would've carried such an item. =O

Otherwise if you really can't find them, maybe some members here in the east may be able to help you source some. =)

its easier to pull them out to do the job trust me cause youve also got to modify the wiring harness as well

It's so much easier to install on facelift taillights. But I agree, take the lights out, it's not that hard. It'll make your job so much easier! =)

hahaha! glad you agree

Oh just another thing, on the pre-facelift, because you have to silicone the lamp holder in, make sure BOTH elements work on the globes..............i had to cut mine open like an idiot cause i didnt check the second light and only realised this morning.lol

After a bit of looking around I found the parts needed for this little project. I think it was EASY for the people over east when it comes to sourcing the parts needed.

I had to end up at Coventry (not the everyday shop you'd walk into for parts) but here is what i got...

post-2797-1225447349_thumb.jpg

The Globe holders were around 4.30 for both and the bulb were 2.20 for the set so it set me back good 6.60.

Seems cheap to me as they are from narva and not some Chinese knock offs..

If anyone need the part numbers here goes....

Globe Holders: 49836 (Universal BA15d Plastic Lock Globe Holder)

Auto Bulb: 47380BL (12V 21/5W BAY15d) <- I think that would work, havent actually tried :)

Mate, that is absolutely right!

Tail/Stop Globe holders. Burn the hole, tap into the wires and u are all done!

Cheers mate! legend!! :D :D

does it matter which "filament" i use as tail light and which one as stop light? it has RED, GREEN and BLACK

Red and Green = tail/stop i assume and

Black = negative?

If you dont have a multi meter ur just guessing but

Red - Pos

Black - Nega

Green - Ground

Black is ground and red is brake, green is tail/park light.

I could be wrong but you can't really stuff this up unless you are me and get the ground wrong :P :P :P :P

Mine was, tail/park lights up but when i hit the brakes, it dissappears. Didn't connect the ground wire properly

It should be straight forward, else take a picture of the globe holder where the cables are at the bottom and i'll tell u :D :D

I used my lamp holders off an old n13 pulsar, if ur not sure what colour wire does what, just pop the globes into the holder and test it directly onto your car battery.

Obviously 1 wire will light up the 5w element of the globe, while the 2nd wire will light up the 21w element. and to find the ground wire for the lamp holder find a good spot on chassis (like a screw) or just do it with the neg side of the bat.

:) all done...

great write up and information here! :D made my life eassier

im currently doing the facelift one, the solder just doesnt wanna stick on, even to the electrode, ****** me off

Posted

The way I did mine on the facelift, is that I stripped the wire, threaded it through to the back and around the little 'hole' out back where the stripped wire section will touch the conductors, looped it back out front and soldered the ends together so it won't "slip" back out over time. Haha, it took me a while to figure it out, but yeah the solder won't stick to the conductors directly.

Posted

I did mine 2 different ways.

The first way like in the instruction above, melted a bit of the plastic and it ended up sticking with that and a bit of solder.

The second one, i did it up the top section where the plug goes in.

Flipped it over, ran a small wire (2") from conductor 3 to conductor 5. Instead of soldering i drilled a small hole in each one, fed the wire through there then soldered. Once again the melting plastic gave it a bit more stick!!

Guys with facelift tail lights.. Is it possible to make a tail light and not just a brake light without much modification? I was testing some things and the only result was that I shorted the 5W and the 21W was constantly on.. I think the problem is that there is only one conductor going to the the extra globe socket. I want the tail and brake to work not just the brake.

Any help would be good.
