my first aurion - short story

Hi,

Bought one! ATX, white, 30K on the clock, ex-hertz rental. 23K in Perth from a dealer. I am sure I could got less but frankly..when I looked the week before they had 20..they were selling really fast. Had a few left.

I am guessing trade in would immediately be around 19K.

I was incredibly close to buying a kluger for 38K, FWD, KX-R...but settled on the aurion since it did the job and I felt 38K for a 2008 FWD kluger was asking too much. first car in oz, i didn't want to go that far up the cost chain until i see how things work here. still the kluger could be an upgrade.

Anyway, I am now in the aurion club. Never had a white car before, feels quite...unusual. I am from the UK of course.

The garage were offering tinting for 500 AUD. Decided not to do it since they offered one type of tint only.

Would prefer to take the car to a specialist.

Questions I need to research

1. do the metallic tints cause problems for sat navs

2. where to get it done in perth (tint a car or other places)

3. what darkness to get

4. hoping to get it done for 400AUD, what are typical prices.

I assume tinting is worth it, a lot of cars seem to have it.

Can't comment there, but I will say that they don't have any noticeable effects with the radio reception... well mine anyways. I have Tint-a-Car Midnight Express.

3. what darkness to get

Whatever you do, don't go any lighter than 35% otherwise you would just be wasting money. If you can get them to write a receipt saying that they put 35% on but then they can put 20% on, then go for it. So long as you will be fine with the slight decrease in night time visibility. 20% will really give you some privacy while keeping the bright sun out of the car.

Around $395 for the darkest legal on a car like the Aurion seems to be about the standard rate these days. Shop around though and you can probably get it cheaper no doubt.

Definitely worth it. Really adds to the look of the car whilst being functional at the same time. The moment my car was registered and on the road, I took it straight to Tint-a-Car. I only chose these guys because this is the branch (Milton) that does all the Mercedes for the local dealers and as well they had previously done some Lamborghinis. It was mainly just trust with the quality.

I can just remember how great she looked when I went to pick her up and she was just sitting there in the driveway looking hot.

Congratz!

If you still have warranty, make sure to look through this thread to get the problems fixed.

thanks. what problems? there wasn't a link above.

I'll do my best, since it is 2008 it at least has 1 year left.

Welcome to ownership of what should be a great car for you. You'll get used to the white paint, it's cooler in the hot Aussie sun and is statistically one of the safest colours to drive. Several research papers have conducted visibility tests and retrospective analysis of the car paint colour of crashed cars.

thanks, wonderful help and support from you all.

i have checked out the links above for things to do under warranty and looking into the fuel pipe issue.

but overall, feel happy with the purchase, albeit...i will learn to love white!

PS, I assume the sticking pedal & toyota recall does not affect aurions...but not sure.
