Hi All,

FWIW, having picked our 2 yo Presara a few days back, I have found the ride totally fine. Not sure if the Presara and ATX have the same suspension setup, but ride wise, everyone who has ridden it it, loves it.

Cheers,

Ian

Just to finish off what I started... the local service manager had a drive and thought our AT-X was pretty typical - a compromise between good cornering and ride. Then we took a new Sportivo for a drive and the fimness of ride was similar at around-town speeds. The Sportivo did seem to have a bit more of a controlled composed ride though and I didn't think it jiggled as much (it was new though). I was a bit surprised as I thought the AT-X should have a softer ride and soak up the bumps but it looks like we will have to embrase and enjoy the jiggles as they said they couldn't really improve it. The shocks check out OK and apparently never give any trouble anyway and there isn't much else it could be. I might try a different brand of tyre next time as that is the only option left. I commented that we thought the ride should be similar to a commodore but according to Toyota, the Aurion has a firmer ride as the springs have been beefed up (from those in the Camry) to accommodate the V6.

There ya go!

Thanks for the input.

Have to sat that mine has done 83,000klm and was an ex-rental and it rides as smooth as no bouncyness whats so ever. As the others have said get it checked out at toyota maybe the shocks have failed.

Cheers

Peter

I'm with Peter on this one.

I've just hit the 80,000km mark and also an ex-rental. I never have problems with the ride being bouncy, just a smooth and joyful ride every time ;)

Haha, My one was an ex rental to and is one of the smoothest cars i have driven, so theres definetly something wrong.

My ride is great, although it has only 35,000 ks and standard tyres (and everything else).

If I was in your shoes I would like an independent assessment.

Take it to your equivalent of the NRMA (AAA?) and have them test it. It might cost you a few dollars, but would give you either peace of mind if its "normal" or something to throw at the Toyota Dealer before the guarantee runs out.

All the best with it. 2011 might be better for you.

Cheers Tom

I have just purchased an Aurion Touring, it has 2000km's on the clock so far and am experiencing a similar feel with the suspension.

While it is quite firm over bumps it seems bouncy/spongy on a lot of roads.

When I say bouncy it feels like sitting in a small boat with a slight swell. My daughter suffers from motion sickness and has noticed in the car that she feels squeemish when the bouncing occurs.

My previous vehicle was a Commodore Berlina and the ride was not at all like this on the same roads.

Any suggestions as to what could be causing this and suggestions on how to mimimise it would be good. I am looking at fitting the UR front strut brace and rear anti-roll bar, I am not sure if this could possibly improve the bouncyness at all.

Cheers Rob

Easiest method to make the ride feel stiffer is increase the tyre pressures. If you have the money then go with ultra low profile tyres with high pressure, stiffer shorten springs and stiffer coilovers. Of course you will also break your spine when it comes to a bump :P

Just a word of advice. I had motion sickness every time i went in a car when i was young. The problem was i would stare out the side window and look forward all the time.

The Aurion feels quite firm at low speed on bumpy roads.

But I didn't feel a difference in firmness going from 210kPa to 240kPa.

However at 240kPa it does feel less bouncy.

Hello woodworm,

I was glad to see that there are other people that find this ride not satisfactory.

I was certainly disappointed with mine AT-X in this regard, and was surprised that none of the reviews I have read before buying the car mentioned it (then again, it appears most people do not mind this sort of thing).

I am referring to that peculiar vibrating jiggle, that is induced by driving over minor imperfections on the road.

I do NOT mean bouncy in a "soft" suspension sense, when you expect slow swinging/swaying motions.

It is quite harsh vibration, may by three-four impulses a second, that comes through the seat and jiggles all my soft bits :-)

I find it annoying.

If you found any way how to fix it, please let me know.

Regards.

I have the same problem in my ZR6 ............ Caused by some silly driving resulting in flatspots on the tyres :P

I have a 2008 Aurion Sportivo with 65000ks..2nd hand Brisbane Police.. and previously a 1998 Holden Calais. When I first started driving the Sporty I didnt feel the ride was anywhere near as smooth or nice as the Calais. The Sporty is much harder sprung I think...feel the bumps much more but power wise .....**** the Sporty gets up and boogies.I love her.On the highway between Gladstone and Brisbane the roads are terrible but she handles it really well and overtaking is a dream....love it.

Camry and Aurion use the same springs, having the v6 up front did not change what springs were fitted at factory

mm this is a bit of a strange one?? The Sportivo's can be a little be harsh and "jolty" at low speeds but more than acceptable at normal road speeds but that’s the price you pay for composure but yeah nobody has ever had a problem with the luxury spec suspension so i would say this is a individual car issue and not one of the breed?

Agree with you that Sportivo's are little hash and jolty

Yes. It is more like jiggly ride on "bad wheels" (either flatspots or poor wheel balance), except that it does not happen on perfect smooth road, and it did not improve after getting new tires and balance.

I am no suspension specialist, but it feels like shock absorbers do not successfully dampen spring vibrations caused by minor irregularities of the road surface.

Would better shocks help? Any specialists here ? :-)
