Engine Covers?

Recommended Posts

Seems like a waste of time to me. Just more crap in the way when you want to work on your car...

not really, the engine cover is simple enough to remove

So...it's not in the way because it's simple to remove? I like your logic!

Well.. not to me. All it is simply pull up and off the cover comes, then set it aside. Its really not a big deal. Plus, makes the engine bay look a bit tidier.

Mate what do you expect to achieve !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

They are almost identical except for the name plate. :nono:

Then again it could be worth an extra 5kw, :whistling:

You,ll probably have to take out a loan to be able to afford the rediculous price of it in the first place

It'd be interesting to see if it had any effect on general cooling even by a degree or two, as airflow is a funny thing.

Does make it look neater, but I believe it'd be nicer if it was aluminium, or at the very least a nicer plastic. The general colours make it look like a cheap cover, which kinda detracts from the idea of quality.

I'll admit that I also consider it to be a touch pointless, but there's nothing wrong with it being something you'd like to do, your car is yours to make yours.

At first I was thinking the engine cover, but I think OP might be referring to all the plastic bits around the side.

I'm surprised at the replies this thread has got

I think I haven't been clear to some I was talking about the covers for the engine bay not the engine cover with the Lexus logo I thought the covers on the sides with the stock engine cover painted black would be a nice mod to help with the clean look of my prodigy i just threw it up as I couldn't find it mentioned anywhere here and thought it would of been a good conversation

As for the pieces I was just curious as I found the front over the radiator and left side for about 200 shipped (couldn't find the right side) and was curious what people thought.

Ahh lol that makes much more sense, guess I should have read it a bit more carefully and made the link with the photo and the black engine bay covers

Sorry mate I too thought you were referring to the engine cover,my apollogies  and I do agree they would give it that clean uncluttered look as long as they dont tend to act as a heat soak, once again sorry champ

I think you will find if you look closer that almost none of the holes line up and the shape of the engine bay is slightly different. It is a big risk for the dollars spent to achieve, vs gain actually obtained(zero).

But if you want to be a pioneer go for it.

There was a time when it was fashionable to show every line nut and bolt :) as long as they were chrome and braided :P

But I like the look of the lexus bay , could look cool if they were 2pak colour coded to the car tho.

Now I understand what you meant, some people love the idea of putting a Lexus badge on a Toyota especially since you titled the thread "engine cover" not referring to the engine bay.

Whilst the gear in the engine bay might be in similar locations, the actual shape is different enough that they likely won't fit. It's a common mod to do in the showcar circuits with custom fibreglass covers but for a road car it's overboard.

Lol i have to say I was wondering why everyone was so against the idea but having provided more detail it seems like the idea isn't as bad as I originally thought when I posted.

I am surprised people would want to put a lexus badge on a toyota but I guess some people like the status of a lexus I guess so that kinda makes sense.

Eyeballing the pieces it does look like they should fit as it's pretty much the same engine bay the only mod that would have to be done would be the front piece that goes over the radiator that might be an issue but I'm gonna keep an eye out for these and if I can grab the full set for a nice price i'll see if I can fit them easily.

I do think these done in a gloss black or even colour coded as the car would really make it stand out but I know it's a useless mod so to speak but still i'll keep and eye out for the full set.

Also found a video of someone pulling the pieces off the lexus

I understood what you meant to begin with, I'm just a function over form guy. Good luck to you, and do report back if you end up doing it.

It just shows how people are different, if I owned the Lexus pulling those things out would be one of the first things I did.

I used to believe I could have both :)

Dug these up from my album, prolly 25+ years old now. But there was no way I would had ever stuck a plastic cover of these works of art :D

Nowadays i'd think twice.

Wow, great photos! What vehicles and engines are we looking at?

Cheers m8.

The top was a Gen SS (wish I still had it) I brought it as a write off and rebuilt it to take to summer nats. From mem it was 308 nothing wild, hed cam holy carb and extractor running through an aussie 4 speed.

The blue car was an old HR 6 stroked 202/208 with 1 3/4 su's very old school :)

The next pic was my statesman 308, pretty stock cept a few bolt ons , I did run a 2.5k stall converter in the auto that made it a weapon over 100 mtrs.

Last but no least was my old escort panel van, started out as a stock 2L turbo then over a 2 yr period was rebuilt a few times and modded to be a pretty quick car. Started out just over the ton and I ended up getting it down to 900kg..... Funny thing I just found my original engineers report! i'll post it up in another thread :)
