i am just concering about the front not the rear as the car is FF. would it be safety to use 225/45/17 for all corners with out hitting the guard and the mud flap?

  • 4 weeks later...

when you do 100km/h you'll be doing 102.5km/h with 225/45/R17

you'll have sidewall deflection also, plus the cornering ability won't be as good I think.

It's comfy fair enough, but yeech...I wouln't do it.

When I grab 17's I'm getting 215/40.

215/40, They are quite expensive and it is not availiable in all the brands since it is not a common profile. I did a search for it before.

Not too expensive Sheldon...

Yokohama a.drives are in 215/40 and are $250 ea I think...(the ones I'm already running, which are very good, but promise to be awesome in 215/40 on a 17in rim with less sidewall flex etc).

Toyo Proxes also have a wide range in 215/40 as well.

Bridgestone have nothing in the 215/40 range for the Potenza's unfortunatley. I understand my speedo will be put out a little as a result, but ultimately this seems to be the better profile for handling w. 17's, but it's only marginal.

Wheel offset plays a HUGE role.

There's 215/45 R18 89W for Bridgestone Potenza RE050A, maybe they have it in 17s? They are good tyres, even the Ferrari F430 uses them as OEM :P If anyone wants 225/45 R17 ultra-high performance tyres for track and street i have Potenza RE070s, stiffer sidewall than any other tyre you can get on the market ;)

the widest are 215/40r17... or 205/45r17

note that not all 215 tires are 215mm wide, some are wider, some are narrower.

the offset of the rims also plays a big role here too.

If I grab 17x7.5 I'm even contemplating 225/40...if I can find them.

could still be 215/40 for me man

NO ONE makes 225/40 in australia rofl, dare I say the whole of oceania...or the world? lol

225/45 will be pretty chunky on a 17 :( I'll run some calculations...

EDIT: I'm running 205/55 on my stock 16's atm, and the 225/45R17 will be 3mm taller and a 20mm wider also :S

I reckon the 205/55 look phat...but 225/45 will be phat as man. Speedo is put a bit too. when you're doing 100km/h it's really doing 102.2km/h.
