Just wondering if an LSD would be worth it for a rolla??

Or do you need more power at the fronts before you consider it??

Posted

More power yes but choose the right type of LSD for what you primarily do. Are you more track oriented with a lil bit of street driving or the other way round?? LSD on the street can be a real biatch. I think Xoom runs a quaife LSD 1.5way. Xoom if you red this is that right??

I have a Sportivo and it definatly needs an LSD for street use. It just wants to pick up the inside wheel and spins it in a rage... One of the things I don't lke about it, considering how well it corners, it just takes away from the driving experience.

Cheers Brad.

I know what you mean TTMX83, is this due to suspension aswell??

probaly more street use.

Would getting an LSD be the last thing to try??

LSD is on my to do list. I'm guessing it would help that nasty wheel hop when taking off at the lights when the roads are wet or hitting lift in the wet or out of a corner.

i miss having an lsd in a front wheel car, a 1.5 way doesnt make driving any harder or less comfortable

I really don't think its necessary on the street though, a bit of a waste of money. Unless you've done your shocks, springs and bars. You won't see the benefit unless your really on the throttle hard every single corner. Energy Suspension motor mount inserts and stiff front sway bar will cancel out most of the wheel hop.

Drive safely on the road guys :D

Having said that, if your outta mods then why not I suppose

What brands are there that suitable for our rollas??

what costs would you be looking at??

I came so close to getting one last month, but ended up getting a mortgage again :(

Oh, and you need to put aside at least 1K for installation.

Quaife LSD FTW !!!!!!! The only feasible way to lay down 250 killerwasps to the tarmac B) B) B)

in all seriousness an LSD does a treat on the rolla as i had the LSD in before i put the turbo in and the car felt SOOOOOOOOOO much better to drive in the corners and off the mark.

having coils and all the bars helps as well ...... and if this is going in a stivo make sure u grab a spare 6th gear from toyota bcuz ur current one will get mashed up in the install process .....

how difficult are they to fit? i'm pretty competant with the spanners...........

what about the TRD LSD? Quaife are legendary over here thro rallying and the old skool escorts and cossies, and you see there name popping up in drift articles but not what i want for my 2zz, am i wrong?

Did the corolla or stivos ever come out with a torsen or viscus stock lsd or can you only get aftermarket mechanical lsds?

I didn't realise Xoom was running a 1.5way, always thought it was a helical. Fill me in Bill.

I'm using the toyota helical, and i reckon is kicks some serious a$$!!

I wouldn't recommend going the TRD unit, as its is 1.5way, and there are maintenace required for cluctched type LSD unless you're willing to fork out periodically for a rebuild. Driving would be quit different too, it will not be as forgiving as the helical option, also, the 1.5way would require you to run a different oil (which isn't a problem when the box is rebuilt as they have to boil parts anyway.

TRD made some helical LSD, but never for the C-series boxes, they only made mechnical 1.5way. the C series LSD are shared across MOST C-series boxes. i.e. a C160 LSD would fit in a C60/62 or C52/54.

LSD isn't something you 'TRY' its something that you want or you don't. If you ever felt frustrated charging into a corner and not be able to pull yourself out of it without smoking up your SINGLE tyre, then you want an LSD. Personally its too exy to become a mod that you 'try'

all in all, it transforms the car completely.

Only Japan had the option of an LSD as far as I know.

Wow thats i would have thought the Sportivo would of had an option. Typical Japanese get better options we do.

Mechanical Diffs arent hard to life with or that hard to maintain just change the oil every service or 2nd service. Thats what i do in the cappuccino. I got a Cusco RS ( the not so hardcore lsd) and that thing is quite you dont hear it lock in or out. And it only skips when your parking the car. But this is for the cappuccino so im not sure what the same type of lsd would be like in the rollas.

Thanks alot guys for all your input.

i think i will do all the suspension components first before i decide on the LSD

Looks pretty pricey to do though, i think after some experimenting with suspension parts then ill go towards LSD

thanks again

I put, 17" rims, low profile tyres, strut brace and lower springs. Works for me. Oh, and sticky tyres helps too
