  1. thanks orrock ...oops i mean kcorro. :D but my car is silver.
  2. thanks guys. i might try the heating thing. i'll take the bumper off and see if i can do it myself. can't hurt. if i stuff it up, i'll just go the smash repair route. Cheers
  3. Zeerolla, yeah. it's the type R gear shift. hehehe.
  4. hey, mike. just stare at your avatar for a few minutes. should cheer you right up. hahaha
  5. the $200 is unpainted though. after painting and fitting, they wanted $750 for the job.
  6. depends on which wheel starts spining first. open diffs act funny sometimes. i remember when i parked on an incline with one wheel on wet grass and the other on the road. when i was leaving, i tried to go but the wheel on the grass just kept spinning. torque is only transferred to the wheel with least resistance. in the end i just had to let it roll backwards onto the road where both wheels had tractions. my friends kept paying me out for not knowing how to drive. :P
  7. Hi Mike i'm actually curious. what type of material is it? will epoxy bond to it properly. the reason i ask is i'm thinking about repairing some minor front damage myself. the blood suckers want $750 for a new bumper. <_<
  8. I don't see how the temp could be off by that much. the nights are averaging around 7-8 degree on the east coast these days so 22 degrees is a fair bit off. even with Wind-chill taken into consideration, there should only be a couple of degrees difference. not more than 10! i would get it checked out by toyota as the car needs a fairly accurate ambient temp reading to auto adjust the climate control.
  9. WTF?!? they painted the whole assembly. i would hate to be driving infront of him and suddenly stop. :P the picture was meant as a jock right, kcorro?
  10. I hate it when i drive behind someone without mudgaurds. the only time i think it's ok to remove them is when you have a body kit that serves the same function (cover the rear of the wheel) it's so dangerous for others to drive around without mudgaurds in the wet. waters get sprayed up at the guy behind you for 20 - 30meters depending on road speed. really annoying. reduces visibility and causes accidents. <_<
  11. I agree. i heard the same thing. they have to lower your compression ratio to do it. there was also a Type-R integra with turbo featured in hot4's once. he gets wheel spin in 1st, 2nd and 3rd easily! Grimlock, we'll have to meet up again and do a road "comparison" wheels magazine style. hehhe
  12. hehehe :D well, if it opened up all us sportivo drivers would be in big trouble. or it could be like a communism thing. we can all share our sportivos. hehehe. i want to drive Xoom, Influx and Peekay's rolla! hhahaha
  13. weird. i don't have any trouble from 1st to 2nd in lift at all. 2nd to 3rd a little tougher but still relatively easy. it'a notchy but not resistive. damn South african manufacturing! <_< hehe
  14. two car lengths is quite a bit dude! hehehehe. :D i gave a current shape prelude vtir a go on friday night on my way home. we only hit 1 set of light so we gave it a go. i stuffed up my gear change and got left for dead :( I really need to practice those shifts a little more. i think i get too excited and forget how to shift!
  15. hehehe. that would be me. did it have a scatch on the front bumper? hehehe took me ages to find parking that night. It's been one long weekend. i probably had 12hours of sleep in total over the whole weekend. (including friday night) what where you up to that night?
  16. perhaps. You can almost always tell a turbo car by the sound of it's exhaust as revs rise. N/A cars scream louder and louder as they rev harder under load. Turbo cars usually give a more consistant deep roar throughout the rev range. the turbines in the exahaust muffle the sound and gives a more consistent groan without the screaming. the blowoff valve if they have one is also a good clue :D
  17. I know a guy who owns two Toyota Soarers with the 1JZ-GTE twin turbo. they are quick not only from a stand-still, but also quick from a rolling start. they have very little turbo lag and are great cars. These are performance cars right fromt the start. I also have another friend with a Lexus SC400 V8 Auto. Aparently, the V8 only comes in auto and Normally aspirated form. they are nice as a luxury car (hence the Lexus badging) but will not perform as they are heavy. They would still kick our ****s in a hill climb though. they have climate control, SAT Nav on some cars and rear facing camera for parking through the LCD screen. I think you may have raced a N/A car because the twin turbo model would eat us alive. torque is made very low in the rev range and they aren't that heavy to boot. the other alternative is that you're a better driver than him. :D anyway, that's my 2 cents.
  18. Just in case any of you are intrested. I got a quote of $724including GST for a new front bumper, painted and fitted. :( sounds reasonable but i think i might just leave my baby as is for now. i can lower and CAI for that much. oh well.
  19. damn straight! :( the service cost me $230 btw. is that what you guys paid for your 10,000km service? (sorry for breaking topic) also, the cover that goes over the tail light inside the boot doesn't clip in properly.
  20. yeh. i got my 10,000km service yesterday and they just played dumb about the whole brake squeel issue. I too, like some of you, had the alignment problem. when i first got it, the car pulled left and alignment wouldn't fix it. dont' know what could be wrong. it's still there now. i suspected a mistake with the toe angles.
  21. Yeh. it is abit of a hassle but at least i got off easy. there was no metal work damage and the fogs and headlights are untouched. the lady in the 4wheel drive had no damage, not even a scatch to the tow bar so it looks like my no-claim bonus is safe. hehe
  22. peekay, i hate calling toyota spare parts. used to call then all the time for my celica. they over price everything and you always get the shock of your life from a total stranger. I'd rather get the bad news from someone on this forum - more comforting. :D i once called up for a price for a front left knuckle and hub assembly for an 89 celica. they wanted $570 for the front knuckle. the same part for the camry of the same year was $150. WTF? FYI, i took the car to silverwater smash earlier and they are yet to get back to me with a quote. they gave me a ball-park figure of $700-$800 fully fitted and painted. excess is going to be that much anyway :( *Sigh*
  23. yeh. :( what cheeses me off is that it wasn't even battle damage. it was the most stupid of all accidents. i assumed she took off and i just kept looking left to find a gap while i was rolling forward. i wasn't even off the clutch i just let gravity screw up my front end! :( My beautiful paint!
  24. Hey boys. rolled my car into the back of a 4wheel drive with a tow bar this morning. there was a stop sign and i thought the car in front had already gone as there was a single car coming from the adjacent street and it was a long way away. i looked left and started rolling forward to get ready to go. When i looked back the car was still there. i hit the brake but it was too late. Smack! her tow bar sliced into my front bumper. No damage to her car so she let me go but i've got a deep gash in my front end to the left of my number plate. :( makes me want to cry when i look at my baby all bruised and battered :( anyone know how much a front bumper for a current shape corolla cost?
