  1. The stock are light because they use neodinium magnets instead of ferrite magnets. They are far more powerful magnets by nature and hence only a small one is needed. Im using mini xt25 vifa tweeters in my car in the stock location, they go well Most people use 6.5 speakers for various reasons, mostly being mounting depth issues and virtually all component speaker sets use a round speaker rather than the oval 6x9 The way youve mounted it doesnt keep the front and back waves separated nor does it aid in using the door as an effective enclosure for the speaker. As a result it will cost you a fair bit in speaker efficiency and bass response.
  2. Once again I'm in love with the exterior styling of the new Camry. They always appear to have the right balance between aggressive sporty and luxury euro look down pat. The interior seems to be a step up from the current Camry, which looks a bit cheap in many regards. It also appears many of the newer interior gear would be a close if not direct swap to current Gen stuff which will open the door to people looking to upgrade their Camry from Toyota spares (although unlike with Holden/Ford parts, this would likely be a HUGE ripoff) Like to see just how different they make the new Aurion inside and out. Hopefully they don't get lazy and make an effort to set it apart as they did previously. Paddle shifters are interesting but I believe they'd just be doing the same as the IS250 range -> same gearbox and not a true sequential, just moving the "sports" shift from the center console to the paddles.
  3. Cars appearance when Clean -> Appearance when dirty Gloss White -> Dull White Gloss Black -> Dull grey. White traditionally does hide imperfections/dirt better, at the trade off of not looking at good when clean as Black does. Still if I had a choice I'd get a black car any day instead of white.
  4. My car is in no condition to throw around a track due to dodgy wheel bearings and crap tyres. It was a good idea so I'm sure we'll be able to find time somewhere for it down the track (lol)
  5. I'd have to say the goat track coming down from Mt Nebo. No guard rails or trees in some spots, unpaved, for the most part hardly wide enough for one car and yet you frequently get people coming the other way that requires some very careful avoidance.
  6. I'll be out as usual. Just to confirm, what's the latest meeting spot if it's raining?
  7. U can do 3 letters + 3 numbers and perhaps go with "TRD + your build number
  8. Yeah i can't recall anybody who's being able to undo these nuts by hand (& this is a good thing) Most of us have used air tools to get them undone, but don’t use them to retighten them though, use the biggest socket wrench you can get your hands on. Also a good idea in a week to have another crack at them to retighten once it's settled in. Softies :P
  9. Please be more specific on what it is you actually bought, and also use the forum search function to make sure your answer hasn't been covered already.
  10. If this was the case, I think no carparks being available would be low on our list of concerns Update: Will be in after 9pm due to the requirements of The State. Give me a break, first day back onto normal sleeping patterns tends to scramble the brains a bit
  11. Some DSG boxes require you to use the paddle shifter to change from park to reverse to drive/1 etc etc. In these cases reverse parking can be a pain in the ***** - most good set ups just use the sequential part when the car is in a "drive" mode
  12. This is true, considering many people park directly on the other side of the ICB, within 200 metres of where we meet. Perhaps though being 8am at night on a non-public holiday will keep the parking mostly vacant as per usual.
  13. I'll be there, provided the inspection of my front suspension/brakes doesn't turn up anything concerning
  14. I've seen a custom Gen6 v8 Camry before, but it wasn't just a drop in donk. Conversion to RWD = $$$
  15. To help understand the glare issue with projectors retrofitted with HIDs, you need to understand that even with proper OEM type HID projectors there is beam "leakage" ABOVE the visible cutoff line that is intentionally designed to be there. The purpose is to provide the light required so that street signs etc are visible to the driver. You've no doubt noticed that modern day street signs are specially designed to "glow" when light is cast upon them. This technology is known as retro-reflection and is found on hi-vis workwear, safety gear and road markings/signs. When your projectors are on you'd be forgiven for thinking that there is no light above the cut off, when in reality it's just the DIFFERENCE in light levels that makes it appear that way. Halogen and HID projectors are each designed slightly differently to project this extra light in just the right way to keep road signs etc visible but without being a hazard to other drivers. That said the difference isn't as big with projectors as they are with reflectors (yes some cars came with HIDS in a reflector housing that was designed for HIDs), but there is more glare to other drivers when using HIDS in a halogen projector. However this additional glare is barely noticeable most times and in the real world doesn't really cause an issue. It's more a case of legal technicalities that make such a retrofit illegal and the stringent requirements for OEM HIDs to have equipped from factory (washers, auto-leveling etc).
  16. well the other think to consider with DSG is the method of shifting, whether they be steering wheel buttons/paddles or the traditional "stick" in the centre console. DSG for outright performance any day of the week - its got consistency and its faster than anything a human with a manual box can do. It may not be as fun as throwing your weight behind a manual and dropping the clutch, jamming gears etc, but like DJKOR it comes down to your car. If in a regular, not-overly powered street car, then a manual is fine and imo preferred. With a high output engine though, how much of the "fun" factor would be lost trying not to lose traction when your drop the clutch, or losing that "sweet" spot in the rev range because you lost too many RPM chasing a gear - in this case the DSG would let you enjoy the engine a heap more without being a detraction in its own right. BTW as it's been mentioned, the difference between a DSG, Manual or auto is like Night/Day/Eternal darkness
  17. - 1985 Mazda 323 - 1987 VL Commodore Berlina - 1997 VT Commodore Exec - 2007 Toyota Aurion ZR6 As you can see, my next car will not exist until at least 2017 hence why I have no issue's playing with the Aurion for awhile. Out of all the above I'm torn between the 323 and the Aurion as my favorite. The 323 was my first car and thus had many many memories tied to it. The commodores were fun at first and excellent for modding, but ultimately were money pits and the poor interior quality (at least for the VT) detracted from the vehicle overall everytime I had to drive it anywhere.
  18. It can be had for around $110 delivered so I'm thinking of taking the plunge... once the tax man has come and gone
  19. Interesting, stumbled across a potentially different option - currently only listed for the America Camry, it's a 4 point rear sway bar/brace combo (3 parts in total). I'm bloody tired right now so I could be wrong but it looks like the Camry version doesn't connect to the link pins.
  20. I had a similar problem when wiring up my new steering wheel at the clockspring. My solution - went to a local auto electrician who found me an electrical plug with very similar pins in the female plug and bought it for $5. Ripped the plug apart, stole the pin (and the bit of wire it still had connected) and forced it into the female plug on my current harness, using a bit of super-glue to remove any chance of it becoming loose. It actually looks very factory and can be unplugged as per normal.
  21. It looks like a lot of people sign up here simply to flog their wares without following the 30 post and 3 month rule, and the forum software doesn't prevent them from doing so. Is it possible then to create a blanket "no authority to create new threads" in the For Sale sections for every member, and a member has to apply to a mod to get access (who would them just give them access to create new threads once they had confirmed the 30 post/3 month thing). This would require far less cleaning up to be done in the for sale section and force people to read the rules to figure out why the hell they can't make a thread there. Also considering the for sale section is hardly very busy when it comes to new items for sale (and the permission to create a thread there only needs to be made once) I doubt it would create a large workload for mods. OR A simple thread which people can post in seeking permission for sale permission could be added akin to the custom titles thread, so any mod can see it and take action if it's appropriate.
