  1. Following link confirmed my thinking that the fill bolt will be 24mm socket and drain is a 10mm hex/allen key. https://autodiyonline.com/toyota-diys/toyota-corolla-diys/toyota-corolla-2003-2008-manual-transmission-fluid-change-diy/
  2. My initial enthusiasm for the GR Yaris has waned after an internet article reminded me that recent modern engines with small displacement, high compression ratios and turbocharging are not going to last. Maybe it will be an exception but the motoring public has their ways of rinding any shortcomings. A lot to be said for the longevity of older Toyota models.
  3. Are you DIY or someone else doing the work on the vehicle? How experienced are they? Are you saying that a new radiator was recently fitted to the vehicle by the previous owner? I did think about it but dismissed it thinking that when the thermostat and coolant sensor were recently replaced then the cooling system would have been burped at that time. Good idea to check the coolant level in the reservoir. When the engine is cold, I would undo the radiator cap and confirm that the coolant level is OK otherwise top up. Repeat this check a few times. I would also drive with the heater on so the coolant circulates through the heater. Now you have got me also thinking about checking the condition of the radiator hoses. https://www.wikihow.com/Check-Radiator-Hoses
  4. Welcome to the Forum. A work colleague has the same model Celica as yourself. He is the 2nd owner bought with 15K on the odometer. No intentions of selling. He has just had the head gasket and clutch replaced.
  5. Your scenario is that you were speeding then driving distracted [without due care and attention]. You were lucky. Now you want to blame the vehicle. Quite possibly you have a fast and furious driving style and the transmission program has "learnt" not to engage 6th gear until 120 kph.
  6. You will need to read up on the Toyota Sportsmatic transmission and how it operates. When selecting sportsmatic mode, S4 is by default the highest gear that the transmission will select unless you select [up or down] to a higher or lower maximum gear. With S4, the transmission will automatically select the appropriate 1,2,3 or 4 gear for the driving conditions. If you select S6, then gears 1-6 are available to be automatically selected. Most of the time, I just leave the transmission in D [drive]. However when going downhill a steep winding mountain range, I have used sportsmatic mode with a lower gear selected to save using the brakes too much. Probably better to be using and wearing the brake pads instead but you have to consider potential for brake fade depending upon the driving conditions.
  7. Anzac Day 2021 has just gone. As per my plans, I did stayed mostly at home. Instead of going to SuperCheap, I went to Bunnings for a fuel funnel. Spent more time mowing than doing any car tasks. However, I did check the engine oil. Maybe a few more items on the list will get done next weekend.😛 QLD Labour Day is 3rd May.
  8. I have not forgotten my Toyota Corolla Seca SX with its 100KW motor from the early 90's. Most recent activity is for the Corolla Sportivos. Best to do Forum searches. I have found that doing Google searches gets good results. I also view a lot of YouTube videos for my specific vehicle. Maybe this is one that you have already viewed for your Corolla.
  9. Australian launch of the 2022 model is expected later in late 2021. https://www.caradvice.com.au/940538/2022-toyota-gr-86-officially-revealed-australian-launch-confirmed/ Sales will determine future availability. I guess that it would be the same as someone turning up today in a 1975 2 door sports sedan. It might even be an oddity if flying cars are the norm in 2065.
  10. This could be so. I read about some of those pre-purchases previously being onsold at a premium. I am most likely being pessimistic but I am thinking that the opportunity could have now passed. Due to supply chain issues, there is currently an under-supply of new vehicles which will eventually be sorted. This flows through to non-negotiable prices possibly offset by a better trade-in offer. The GR Yaris could be the last of the homologated vehicles specifically designed for the World Rally Championship. If it wins then I am sure it will find a place in a vehicle museum. I am not looking to past vehicles but to the future. I have seen just how fast off the mark a Tesla is easily keeping pace with a big cc motorbike.
  11. Dreaming is turning into reality. Development is becoming production. Latest issue is to now sort out the required supply chain. Electric cars are now being seen to be taken seriously by the established ICE vehicle manufacturers. Their survival depends upon it; adapt for survival or perish. Interesting point about the connector and swapping the battery. Perhaps battery swapping is an interim step strategy for that Chinese brand appropriate for their market. Good manufacturing solution to drive down production costs. I am sure that there will be plenty of after market suppliers to step in and customise vehicles. Have to agree with some of their thinking because I do not want a slow vehicle especially on the highway.
  12. It pays to be informed and to be able to critically analyse and assess emerging technological advances. I just came across this very recently released YouTube video. I also had a good laugh about the ending comments about asking 15 year olds what they want. Some needs are timeless. 😁
  13. Have a look at this Link. Maybe holding down the Lock button instead will turn On the automatic lock functionality. https://www.baierltoyota.com/blog/how-to-turn-off-toyota-corolla-automatic-locks/
  14. I am not saying that this is the solution but you could try the steps in the following link. https://www.baierltoyota.com/blog/how-to-turn-off-toyota-corolla-automatic-locks/ Experimenting by doing similar steps solved my issue when the alarm was sounding a few minutes after locking the doors on my Aurion. I also had the window down just in case I locked myself in the car and the doors would not unlock.
  15. This is the link to the video by The Car Nut. I did look at few other YouTube videos and they just confirmed that having one of these funnels is going to make the coolant job a lot easier. This post also reminded me to go check the coolant level; all OK.
  16. I have viewed this YouTube video a few times and again just before this post. I think that it gets real interesting from about the 8:45 time mark. So I will be watching to see what actually does happen in California as a pre-cursor to what could also happen here in Australia. If Toyota wants to slow down the adoption of electric vehicles then it needs to saturate the market with its hybrid and plug-in hybrid vehicles.
  17. https://www.manufacturing.net/operations/article/13121503/quality-control-technologies-to-drive-manufacturing Also have a look at YouTube videos by Sandy Munro. He is ringing the bell for what is coming in the Auto Industry. Possible solution for this post might be to use TechStream or visit the Dealership.
  18. No idea so I went searching and found this retail locator https://penriteoil.com.au/locator?start=Retail Seeing that you mentioned Castrol, here are the links to the Australian Castrol Lube Guides. https://www.datateck.com.au/lube/castr_au/ https://www.castrol.com/en_au/australia/home/oil-selector.html?customerType=retail
  19. I have been looking at Hyundai and Kia. The elephant in the room is the emerging Chinese Auto Industry and we have yet to get their better quality vehicles. After they have finished their consolidation phase of manufacturers, fine tuned their supply chain and dominated their home market, an invasion of world markets is predicted. I am guessing that by 2025, it will be happening. In the meantime, a few boatloads of the new Tesla model to be manufactured in China being pre-sold at an introductory price of $30-35K will certainly disrupt the Australian market and cause some revised strategies in Corporate boardrooms.
  20. This Lube Guide for Penrite will give you the recommended oils for your vehicle. https://www.datateck.com.au/Lube/PenriteAus/ http://www.penriteoil.com.au/product-selector#/
  21. Getting back on topic of this thread. It pays off to do internet searches and assess the best options. Regularly reading Forum posts gives me ideas for further investigation and confirmation.
  22. Delivery is not until the end of the month. No idea about the self-propelled system. I was assuming that it was belt driven. Existing push mowers are both Masport 158cc. I have repurposed the original Masport to be mulcher only and do all the rough stuff until it gets worn out. Sort of applying the same approach with my Aurion of using until worn out then activate my standby Aurion. I am planning/dreaming upon having one of these "gadgets" well after retirement especially if it has autonomous driving functionality.
  23. That looks as new and impressive. I am laughing because the girlfriend did suggest a ride-on mower which is a bit impractical for a suburban backyard. Hip pocket nerve was also activated when she suggested buying one. Also laughing because I have started using NULON 5W-30 synthetic oil in the mower. Looks like I will have to add detailing the mowers after I have dealt with the cars. Just as well there are some long weekends coming soon.
  24. I was more thinking of the saying there is no replacement for displacement when I went shopping and ordered this.
