  1. The Z646 was a direct replacement for my Oct. 2006 Aurion ATX. I would expect this part to fit your 2008 Aurion ATX. The Z708 filter is more likely to fit later year 40 series Aurions. Suppliers should be able to confirm from the VIN which part is applicable. Alternatively, remove the back seat and have a look at the fuel filter.
  2. Same as KAA, I am selective. Girlfriend says that I am fussy; Yes Dear and so are you. 😁 Recently, I got grumpy and walked out of an AutoBarn store without buying because items on special were not marked. Not in the mood to have to ask for assistance. When I was last in SuperCheap Auto, I did go to the Detailing section and specifically look at the Turtle Wax graphene products. I cannot remember seeing this wax product so good to know that this product is available.
  3. I was almost not going to post the link to this YouTube video but silly to ignore facts or their EV biased interpretation by the presenter's emotive commentary. I had a bit of a laugh about rabid Toyota fans in Australia. Yet to meet any or be aware of their existence compared to the well advertised Holder Ford rivallry and their hardcore fans. Hard to ignore that EV sales have been doubling annually since 2010. Admittedly this was from a low start up point but momentum is growing. Existing auto manufacturers will have a Sunk Cost bias. Hence the rhetoric. Writing is on the wall if the predicted price parity of EVs with petrol and diesel does occur by 2023. It was previously predicted to be by 2025 so plenty of developments have been happening to quicken the pace of change.
  4. I think that Toyota is reluctantly adopting an EV strategy, playing catchup. Still lots of development happening in the battery world with expectation that battery storage costs will keep on falling. Toyota did announce a change of strategic direction to being into Mobility instead of just being focussed upon automobile production. I fully expect Toyota to survive and transition away from low profit margins sections of the market. Toyota's current competitive advantage of hybrid technology is being eroded by EV technologies. Have to wait and see whether Toyota can gain another competitive advantage with another technology.
  5. Following YouTube video has more recent news about BYD vehicles becoming available. It is a SUV crossover that will be sold for $35,000 AUD. I did go looking for specifications but no luck. Probably will have to wait until 1st July 2021 when their distributor Nexport opens their pre-order book. Earlier today, I looked at the Australian vehicle sales statistics for May 2021. Toyota has 32% of the Australian market. Hyundai and KIA are gaining market share and MG is in the No.10 position for Brand. Certainly no time for Toyota Australia to be complacent. BYD is going to be the new kid on the block and looks like they will have the production capability to establish a market presence. Initial 30,000 units of production looks like the 1st wave with more to follow. I do wonder whether this will be the catalyst for marginal auto brands to exit the Australian market.
  6. I was looking at the Clearance section on the SuperCheap Auto website and noticed this SCA Thumbwheel Wrench 3/8" Drive Details https://www.supercheapauto.com.au/p/sca-sca-thumbwheel-wrench-3-8-drive/222705.html Now $5.00 Features Coated metal construction resists abrasion and corrosion damage Suitable for use in tight spaces where ordinary screwdrivers and wrenches cannot fit Reversible ratcheting system allows use in both directions Fortunately a local SCA Store had them in stock. Had to ask for assistance so they could unlock an anti-theft device. Bit useless because I had already removed it from its plastic packaging retaining clip to check that the ratchet action worked in both directions. Also took the opportunuty to pick up a 4 piece set of socket adaptors [not on special] which were locked in a display cabinet.
  7. Precisely why at that price point the Toyota BZ4X EV will be released into the USA market and EU to meet stringent emission guidelines and to reduce the need for "carbon credits". 2022 is shaping up to be the Year of the EV invasion or onslaught into the Australian market assuming that BYD pricepoints for proposed models do happen. Having price parity with equivalent ICE vehicles is going to remove a major market barrier. Actually seeing EVs on the roads and outperforming most ICE cars and even motorbikes is going to hasten the changeover rate. Interesting times ahead. I am sensing that the window of opportunity for hybrid vehicles and plug-in hybrid vehicles will be on the decline by 2025.
  8. It is interesting to look back at past posts and see how updated information has changed or confirmed. After having another view of this YouTube video, I would agree that you could expect to be paying more than $50K for the Toyota BZ4X EV especially if the current dealership model is used instead of online sales. If as reported in another video, the BYD Tang will be sold on a pre-order basis for approx. $35,000 AUD, then it is going to be quite a game changer.
  9. I have been viewing a few more YouTube videos about electric cars more specifically related to the Australian market. One was an interview with a salesman with a MG dealership. Interesting that they encourage buyers to drive both the ICE and the EV versions. Most EV buyers have already done their research and being early adopters are paying a premium price. As previously reported, BYD will be progressively releasing 3 models into the Australian market from September 2021 to April 2022. However, BYD currently has a limited car production capability which is being ramped up. This is where the joint venture with Toyota becomes relevant especially for the Toyota BZ4X EV which will be available in the USA mid 2022. However, no news about when this model will become available in Australia. Certainly got some pessimistic thoughts about Toyota's future EV sales after letting other car manufacturers gain an uncontested foothold in the Australian market. Guess that they may be relying too much upon existing brand loyalty and quality control.
  10. I have previously greased the threads on the wheel studs more for rust prevention and to make undoing the wheel nuts a bit easier. Later I then read that the torque setting needed to be reduced for lubricated/greased threads. Since then, I have removed any surplus grease from the threads. Following video by John C sheds some light on this issue. Might go and put this "Lockdown Therapy" on the To Do List when next checking the brake pads.
  11. You may find this YouTube video by The Car Nut of some interest. I am guilty of doing this so trying to wean myself away from this "bad habit". I have also had a bad petrol smell in the car so a bit of an incentive to mend my ways before it results in a repair bill.
  12. AutoBarn Sale to 30.06.2021 Bit hard to go past this item especially if you are after a cheap oil or looking for for a flushing oil when doing an oil change. GULF WESTERN OIL SYN-X 3000 10W-40 5L 30537 SYN-X 3000 10W40 5L ENGINE OIL $9.99
  13. Agree with recent posts. I am quite happy knowing that there is reliable 200KW engine under the bonnet. Bit of envy for the Aurion TRD but hard to justify [to my Bank Account] the price for those extra KWs. I have been keeping an eye on the KIA Stinger more as a benchmarking exercise. Writing is on the wall for it to be discontinued in favour of the EV6. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LA7d1FmW0ZI I have also been looking at the RAV4 Prime on YouTube which has yet to be made available in Australia. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=49DTZgKzaaM In the meantime, I am enjoying driving my Aurion and saving my $$$ for a future electric car that will be able to outperform a V8.
  14. If you have a stock standard Celica then I would not consider it a RICER. https://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=ricer Add all of the body kit and this one looks like a RICER http://www.veilsidejpn.com/en/product/toyota/ff-gt_zzt231_celica_front_bumper.php What you should be concerned about is the amount of attention you will get from the Police. P plates make you enough of a target. Make your car look faster and you get more attention. Precisely why I leave my car stock standard on the outside. Best $ upgrades are tyres, then brakes and suspension.
  15. Work colleague had a brake noise issue with his Toyota Kluger. Mechanic used some unfamilar brand brake pads. I am sure that the issue was resolved when a more recognised brand e.g. Bendix were finally used. Something to consider is that new brake pads and rotors need to be bedded in.
  16. Watching YouTube for recent releases and viewed this following video. More corruption and government subsidy scandals are hindering CCP's stated goal of China becoming a major EV manufacturer. 2025 is mentioned as being a major turning point. Another case of wait and see what eventuates from China.
  17. More of an unstated discount for this sale. I have enough on hand to wait for a better discount sale @ 30%;= $36+ I also have enough engine oil on hand so I can afford to be particular and wait for 40% or 50% discount price. After a bit of recent research, I am now using full synthetic 5W-30 engine oil in the four stroke mower engines.
  18. This morning, I checked the armrest insert and how the rear of this insert connects into the covering panel at the back of the boot. As I recall , I detached the the armrest insert from the boot back panel by working inside the boot. Once you have done that, then the seat back rest lifts out very easily. After I refitted the rear seat, I left refitting that armrest insert to the boot panel for another day.
  19. You have reminded me. There is also the centre drop down section in the back rest. Open/drop it down and see if there are any retaining bolts. Look in the boot and you will see the opening where it comes through. Just disconnect the back rest from that boot interior piece.
  20. After removing the 4 bolts, the back rest is now ready to be removed. There are 2 anchoring points at the top where the 2 metal loops slot into. It is a case of pushing up the backrest then struggling with the central seat belt to fully remove the backrest. When refitting, the removal procedure is reversed. Fully extend the central seat belt first, then slide in the back rest.
  21. It is all about maintenance and driver care vs abuse. I would recommend using a quality full synthetic engine oil and changing it every 5000-7500 kms or 6 months. Also check and change the coolant and use fuel with the recommended RON rating. Drive sedately and avoid over-revving the engine. Actual Corolla Sportivo owners should be able to provide more specific advice.
  22. Facts bear testament to his speeding. There is dumb and dumber all rolled up in one. Hope he was crying at least on the inside. Police report and his insurance claim will be another source of merriment. I am assuming that speeding will not invalidate his insurance claim but the claims process could be extended and repair delayed. Karma can just keep on giving.
  23. T10 size bulb You want to have a very compact size to fit into the front parking light housing. Have a read of this previous post. If you are after a budget buy, then you could look at this listing. https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/143625840326?hash=item2170c466c6:g:AEgAAOSwyyZdt~qQ
  24. I am just thinking that the less stressed the engine design, then better potential for being over-engineered to achieve engine longevity. As an example I have already noticed a few YouTube videos about GR Yaris engines being pulled apart for repair. Underlying cause may very well be customer abuse but yet to take time to view those videos. As for the V6 Camry, not enough sales to justify its continuation compared to the Toyota Kluger. Also there are supply chain issues e.g. semi-conductor chips so production is being constrained and scarce resources directed towards models in demand. Behind the scenes, Toyota is fighting a battle for survival.
  25. There are existing Forum posts relating to this topic. General consensus of opinion is that you are wasting your money using 98 PULP. The engine has been tuned to use 91 RON or higher. When petrol was cheaper earlier this year, I was filling up with 95 PULP. Now back to using 91 ULP. Last year, I did a return trip from Brisbane to Cairns using 95 PULP. It more proved that my leadfoot outwighted any expected fuel economy gains over 91 ULP. Something else to consider is that 95 PULP should be a better quality fuel than 91 ULP. End of the day, it is your choice what fuel you use.
