  1. A drop in panel filter will be nowhere close to as loud as a SRI/CAI with pod filter. The comparison between the two, regardless of the car, is like night and day. Just don't want to get anyone's hopes up. hence i mentioned 'not that extreme' i would refer to a change from panel to CAI an extreme. LOL. of course pods and CAI would be uber in terms of sound. my friends got a mirror image camry to mine, but normal tissuepaper filter. its defintely not as loud as mine. his ears were planted in my car. difference is negligible but driving his car everyday and then planting his ears in mine, it could tell the difference without me mentioning anything. i find it so funny though that manufacturers market an aftermarket panel as a performance boost. they should really promote the durability and longetivity spectrum.
  2. what mod are u trying to achieve? melting the grill layers in the middle and replacing it with mesh? hehe i thought about that, just use a soldering iron and riding the middle bits, and ultra glue the mesh, but then, bugs would be super annoying to clean... = S

    LED eyelids

not to worry, you're safe. its the ones that ARENT in the headlight compartment that i dislike very much, i.e. stupid holden and merc ones. they didnt go2 alot of trouble did they? all they had to do was find a manufacturer supplier led compartments i.e. from PIAA, stick it at the bottom of the bumper and connect it. ones in the headlight assembly are very sexy, and bmw was the first to start of with the whole day time driving rings (but using halogen lights as leds were too expensive back then). if anything, audi had inspiration from bmw but audi used style and perfection. the fact that the R8 and TT driving leds curve with the headlight assembly is just gobsmacking, and the fact that when the led dims as the signal is on, is sensational. anyway, ones in headlight assembly are awesome. pretty soon we'll have led headlights. if torches can run on mcree x crystal micro dots, imagine the headlights of the future.
  4. so i finally decided to get some after trailing and error-ing with ebay leds from HK and China. all the ones i have come across are CRAP, aside from 1 type of SMD led with a metal protector on the light circuitry, which protects the SMD from extreme heat when used in the halogen headlighting compartment. instead of purchasing from LED Online, i decide to try Bright Auto Parts, or their ebay shop. I purchased the standard T10LED2P and the T10LEDI2P, 2 of each, considering i needed some backups. so far so good, but i havent been driving at night for a long time. I am starting with the T10LED2P for my tail number plates (though the T10LEDI2P is mre suited as its got a wider angle), and the one BIG difference i have seen in these are the QUALITY. the METAL connectors arent dodgy, rusty crap, but rather of the same quality to the T10wedges you purchase from Philips or Narva. the BIGGER difference is that the LEDs are ACTUALLY WHITE. YES, WHITE. PURE WHITE not blue, not purple, not yellow, not different shades of blue, purple or yellow. its PURE WHITE. the same PURE WHITE tail number plate leds that european cars have installed. all i have come across are that cheapo annoying blueish, yellowish or purpleish white which i hate. they can NEVER get them right. well finally, i have found some. I'll update on how long these will last, but for the moment, i would highly recommend these leds BrightAutoParts and LEDOnline sell, because they are australian companies stocking the highest quality leds ive seen. i hate those chinese crap (im asian so not being a racist here). Last thing is, if you purchase from their store, postage is onyl 6AUD including eparcel tracking...if you purchase from EBAY...its 3AUD per item and another 2AUD for additional items. they probably do this due to costs of listing on ebay. i chose BAP shop cuz LEDOnline shipping cost was 10AUD instead of 6AUD. thought i'd give u guys some heads up cuz everyone seems to have a hit and miss with LED replacement globes. if you purchase those 10pack T10 wedges all for under 5AUD, expect to use all 10 in 2months or 3. cheers
  5. i wouldve thought this car would be a ripper for a family situation. if i had a family my options would be either this, or the subaru liberty gt station wagon or the likes. dislike normal sedans as they arent practical enough. having said that this may look like the size of a lancer sportback?
  6. From what I've read about plausible improvements, I Understand improvement may be !% or 2% . Is it worth it? I think u can feel the different, when u use it specially with 91 unleaded. interesting... anywho, cost saving is the main reason i purchased it. $80 for my 02 gen 4.5 camry, and better built than those oem tissue paper crap. at high revs the engine is a lot louder as you would get from installing a pod filter, though not that extreme. in terms of feeling the difference, i dont feel any, just sounds louder. not after a performance boost, but for me it will cost the same as purchasing 2 to 3 stock oem air filters over the lifetime of the car, so why not just get the better one? youre also helping the environment too AHAHA
  7. this is hilarious, not the fact that you had a near death experience, but to think this is a manufacturing defect... youre lucky you dont get to drive hyundais or protons while doing what you did, there would be more than just the RHS wheels being cambered for execution. sorry to burst your bubble here Sir, but i strongly suggest u seek professional advice before informing Toyota authorities...worldwide... you guys dont know how much i'm laughing right now...but i'll refrain from typing it all out...gosh its too tempting
  8. lol those are the ones i use for my front parkers. they are still working so i guess they must be ok. they do look a very very slight hint of purple but mostly white. ive just ordered some from led-online to try, and these to try and if they blow i'll just have to stick with the ones on my front parkers. quite annoying they keep blowing! Cheerios mate
  9. noticed that you've changed your bulbs to led quite often. just wondering, anyone know how long the LED T10 wedges last? im still finding the right ones specifically for my tail number plate lights. for some reason, any white light (including both bulbs and white leds) have blown within 3 months. kinda annoying, however, the same type of fitted in the plate lights last years when fitted on the front parker. where do u get your led number plate light from Djkor? i wonder if its got anything to do with the amps it draws. i just ordered some t10 wedge leds that draw 0.02amps as supposed to the normal 0.04amps cheers
  10. Hi guys.... Anyone who owns a Camry 2.2L SXV-20R...Errr....whats going on? Or are these normal fuel figures? I have the receipts to prove these figures... I fueled up in Glen Waverley BP with Ultimate. Put in 49.96L out of a possible 70L tank. I made the journey from Glen Waverley, Victoria to Bathurst, NSW - on googlemaps it says 842km, however i drove it around Albury during a stop over and also to some random towns (cuz that's what people do...lol), so i clocked up 889kms in total. OK so throughout the trip there were more BP stations than i thought - thus i used BP Ultimate all the way. Filled up 7.79L in Albury, then 32.45L on the Hume Hwy in NSW. I always fill to the top on 2nd click. Calculations: Kms travelled = 889kms Fuel used = 8.79L + 32.45L = 41.24L 41.24: / 889kms = 0.04638920134 0.04638920134 x 100 = 4.638920134 Litres/100km Unless I've calculated these wrongly and totally was sleep walking while i refueled at a station....HUH?  Conditions: Sunny both days, no airconditioning, windows slightly down for a gentle cool breeze entering, air vents placed on outside air, 110km/hr hume hwy with higher speeds when overtaking and random speeds on olympic hwy from 40-110 km/h Surely i cant do those ridiculous figures right? I'm staring at these receipts making sure they're not wrong.....
  11. that wont be happening for ever and ever...australia doesnt have the population for them to justify importing such an awesome car down, in terms of costs to benefit ratio. and they'd rather sort their global crisis issue (which will cost them dearly) first before doing anything drastic like importing a new car to the outback.

    Coolant Reservoir

mmm i think theres a good reason why they dont use any metals as an overflow bottle. i dont know it, but if they could im sure they would have by now, seeing this type of radiator design is very old. 'high density' plastic only brittles in australia, and not in any other country. countries with constant high heat or tropical temperatures are often accompanied by humidity. australia suffers from low humidity in summers, hence the brittle. we also have no ozone.

    Coolant Reservoir

hey guys sorry to dig this VERY VERY OLD thread from the dead, :o why do people charge ridicious amounts of money for just a change in a coolant overfill bottle? for the sxv20r series of camry's it takes 1min to remove, and another 5-10mins to replace (including replacing it with new coolant). only reason is i was detailing my engine yesterday, and as i was wiping my coolant bottle, it broke in2 many different bits (the top corners that is). i was somewhat annoyed that most japanese cars have plastics that cant withstand heat, which funnily enough, the contents of the bottle is used to cool a heating engine. pathetic. just pathetic. anyway, was calling everywhere and its the same standard price of $45-$50. i'll check out the wreakers on the weekend to see if there are good 2nd hand ones (highly unlikely though), but yes, charging in excess of $118 for a 30sec clipon for a pathetic plastic bottle (that will brittle soon) and adding coolant, is excessive.
  14. thats a well known website, but its only good for tyres that are popular and widely used, and sometimes reviews can also be based on too many variables not the best website for you to buy as hardly any official sellers quote u back on the price, or tender a price at all.
  15. mmmm yea....why did they do that huh? it must have been political from toyota hq
  16. zomg i would love to drive that that is hot hot hot HOOOTTTTTTT though i had a look at the catalog. man they're expensive parts i'll tell u that, genuine tommy kiara!
  17. yes but we've all overlooked something crucial, Australians generally dont know what the true value of a TRD badge is. Eventhough its from a normal everyday manufacturer & even though its just some souped up version of a normal family whitegoods car, japanese manufacturing sports brands come at a premium. B4 TRD went bust, it was one of the big 6 heros of fine jap sports engineering, you've got: NISMO Mazdaspeed Mugen Ralliart STi TRD FPV/HSV have cars that can possibility "kill" most models from the hero 6 brands (except the legends eg. a Nismo Skyline GTR and the likes), toyota have marketed TRD like bmw and merc have marketed AMG & Mpower - thus why the trd badge on a fwd aurion was deemed "premium", compared to the likes of HSV & FPV - which compared to the hero 6 jap sports brands, are unheard of (maybe once or twice in appearances on topgear, and the odd export by HSV, but come on - once u step outside australia people all over the globe are most likely to know all of the hero 6 jap brands than HSV/FPV). may sound stupid, silly, ridiculous, but the hero 6 brands get the same, if not better WOW factor to the european sports brands. not saying TRD aurion is worth more, or can out do fpv/hsv, its just the image toyota hq wanted toyota australia to continually portray, just like sti & ralliart have maintained that "premuim-ness".
  18. What... you didn't think it was possible (thanks SuperDave for the pic): i LOL sooooo loud...everyone kinda looked this way open office spaces not good 4 camry track forum surfing... though on further evaluation, that cam doesnt have rice mods or has attempted to be a car its not. i guess it doesnt hurt to drive your car leisurely around a track :) if i saw a fully pimped up camry with racing conversion done like 6-7years ago, of a gen4 v6 camry which raced in events that aired on sbs sidetracked program.....then it'd worse? i dont what event it was, some like a gt cup but with 4 classes of cars racing at the one time on the one track.
  19. i dont, they look to cheap and rice. wots with that? they have awesome front headlights but they totally totalled the rears....... in my opinion, unbelievable. BUT congrats yale, ugly tail lights or not, still an awesome drive baby!
  20. mmm not referring to the recent insights of global failures at toyota hq, but maybe its toyota australia thats causing some/most/all of the issues, more new toyotas made in aust are surcoming to quality issues compared to prior years/models. current overseas v6 camrys are deemed one of the most reliable v6 vehicles, however its the nissan maxima/cerfero that takes the lead in the best overall affordable family v6 japanese vehicle, perhaps in the world due to quality, build, refinement and an engine that constantly sets benchmarks in the v6 world.
  21. the tyres u mentioned are great, however, if you dont wanna pay a bomb for them...primarily because you are driving a camry, and if you're not going to use your camry for track racing, (if u do i'd pay to see that! ) i'd highly recommend Toyo Tyres They are all made in Japan & truely, very much so, exceed your money's worth. Ive got a set of Toyo Teo Plus 215/55/16 on mine atm that have lasted me beyond 40,000km on spirited driving, and with the fact that i got them for $155 each. no tyre i found at that price and at that size will do 40,000km at spirit driving. hell no. ive tried all the other brands like yoko's c drive, goodyears, bridgestones and so forth. if you find a brand which does last 40k on spirited driving, they will cost u a bomb no questions asked. the tyre design works, so much so that michelin came out with a similar tread design, copy cats <_< If you're after ultra comfortable, awesome wet performing, fuel saving tyres, get the Teo Plus in your size. You wont regret them. Very very quiet as well - kill the yoko db decibel range anyday. If you're after a sports everyday driving, get the Proxies 4. Threadwear for both tyres is standard 300, u'd be surprised how soft they still remain after years of use.
  22. hopefully u can find one, cuz they are like dead flies everywhere. what a classic, the one and only trd aurion model, would be a great collectors. if one were to keep one in prestine condition and with low kms, it should fetch lots of goodwill on that car. heaps of potential, similar to the mr2s, but the mr2 dont hold the once awesome trd badge. sorry to highjack the thread, but i wont why so many manufacturer's stop their exciting products. toyota stopped celica (though back soon cuz they realise they cldnt survive without it), supra & mr2 honda stopped the teggie, prelude (though having both seemed too redundant anyway) nissan stopped the 200sx at the s15 having said that, i saw the top of the range KIA cerato coupe. they've done a good job exterior wise, looks quite hot in red and their stock 17' black/chrome wheels. too bad its a camry like engine <_<
  23. here another one: http://www.ledshoponline.com/ i purchased a few from ebay, and found an australian seller selling some small leds: http://www.on9city.com/shop/default.asp judging from the products avaliable from led-online & ledshoponline, they are of a better build and quality than to those on ebay & on9city shop. eventhough the t10 wedges & the festoon replacements i got work fine, the build quality sucks, esp on the t10 wedges, they have cheap, burnt/like rust metal as connectors, and the packaging is absolutely 3rd world its ridiculous - something u get from a backalley way in china (im asian so not being racist) spend a few $$ more and get better quality ones i say. will show how well the parkers and number plate leds turn up.
  24. i was thinking of buying a white led festoon replacement for my interior lighting builb, and while on gmail, there was a link alerting me to check this site out LED Online and they have almost any and every led to replace your car's lighting, except your non led light bulbs :D buy bulb like bulbs with leds stuck on them, single or twin filament, or festoon replacements and wedges there's plently more on ebay, but if you're unsure whether or not if they are dodgy, i guess this australian listed seller is better, prices are considerably higher though - perhaps quality? who knows. you can just about led all your car's needs and kinda prolong your battery if you drive alot at night. i doubt it would make that much of a difference if u led your tail lights, just be brighter and red-er! & i guess u wouldnt have to replace them ever again. just thought it was good 2 share, cant go much wrong if you have brighter shining tail lights like those on german makers!
