  1. Toyota screwed it up and it will always default to 4th when you change from 'S' to 'D'. Only exception is if your are going fast (above 150), it will default to 5th. I have had a case at low speeds where it defaults to 3rd though. It happens every now and again, and I can't purposely replicate it.
  2. If you prepay (prepaid entries to be received by Thursday before the event), you would be looking at $139 ($119.00 for entry and $20 for a day license). If you have to hire a helmet, it is $5 plus a deposit on the day.
  3. ^ I don't think I've ever heard the transition into lift so defined before. In your video you really do notice it compared to what you hear on the road.

  5. You can apply for a day licence I believe. Similar to when you go to the drags on a non T&T night and have to pay $5 for a day licence with ANDRA. I don't want to hear you saying you'll just be a spectator, because all I hear is you... Edit: Speaking of which, I had a look at the Application Form. Is this the one I would use? What's the difference between the Clubman and National License? I heard that there are three layouts, and those are two of them and the other is Sprint. Edit Edit: I just looked at the entry form for the Sprints for the day mentioned above. It looks like it is a Clubman licence. Edit Edit Edit: F*** I really really can't wait for this.
  6. They usually dyno it in 3rd or 4th. They run the engine till it gets to the final selected gear, then ramp up the speed to the point where they can put their foot all the way down without it kicking down a gear. This is why a dyno graph of the Aurion is only useful for obtaining the maximum power and/or torque. You can hear how they ramp the power up and only put their foot down fully once it as a bit of momentum to it from this video: Please wait a few seconds for Video to Load!
  7. 50mm is a pretty intense drop though. I wouldn't want to lower my car that much. Most people only usually drop their car 35mm or there abouts. Once you go to a 50mm drop or more, your car can get to below the minimum required ground clearance anyways. So if you don't get it approved, you are driving a defectable vehicle. This just makes it easier to catch the defects.

I know it's not a definte comparison, but its something that is noticeable given that over the course of the runs in which I compared the two modes, the air temperature/track temperature only varied by 1 degree and the humidity/pressure remained within a similar range. The comparative runs (3 of each) were launched at the same RPM, etc so that minimises the variables. Like I said, it's not completely accurate, but until there is better evidence, then this is what has been found so far. Hard to hold the Aurion in a gear when in 'D' mode if you were to dyno it.
  9. Just a little revival on the subject. For anyone that was wondering what would most likely be the best to use for better performance, the answer would be to leave it in 'S' mode with the gear selected as '6'. This way it will do all the changes for you at the right timing, and it will over-ride the learning portion of 'D' mode. SupaTouring summarised the best explanation for it all in his post above: Now this is not complete hard evidence, but after the three times I've been to the drags, it have found that no matter how many times I try with the gear selector in 'D', I can not match my times with the gear selector in 'S'. Runs with the gear selector in 'S' and selected gear as '6', consistently had times that were 0.2 seconds faster. Not that it makes much of a difference for everyday driving, but it does show some minor differences there. That said, leaving it in 'S' mode will probably use slightly more fuel as well.
  10. I stalled it up to 3 grand and I could feel it had a little pull to it. When I released the brake and floored it, it was just instant wheelspin hitting the limiter in 1st. I backed off to around half throttle and felt (and saw from the RPM) that it changed into second. I figured it would have traction by then so just put my foot down again (not overly fast to get a kick-down). I guess it didn't have full traction. This all happened just as I passed that light at 0:23. Funny thing is, it spun so smoothly. Usually I can 'feel' when then the tire/s are spinning, but in this case it just looked like it was revving and not moving.
  11. Have you hired out a car before from one of your everyday hire car companies? Toyota is no different in terms of this accident excess when you compare them to other major companies.   12. On a positive note, it's good to hear that they are all doing what they should be. Modding doesn't always go perfectly planned, so a little bit of adjustment may be necessary. Like I said though, hopefully you can get yourself a new exhaust setup that will be a bigger improvement... and not CEL. I was considering the lower bar just for the sake of it, but figured I wont bother. Plus my car is going to sit 15mm lower once I get my tax return, so I don't want any scraping issues. Just one thing though: I hope you didn't really mean a torque wrench. I wouldn't suggest using that to accurately torque up nuts and bolts again.
  13. I'll definitely be up for a QR event as such. Won't be attempting to drift my Aurion though. I value my tires and would rather keep them round. I'd be able to register ASAP as well. Thanks to my tax return, I should have my car all finished to how I want it just in time as well.
  14. Just drive it. It's only a battle wound. I had to drive mine to TAFE, etc after I had that Suzi t-bone me. Not the prettiest thing to look at, but oh well.
  15. Well, that night didn't really work out the best. To start, it was actually quite busy there with people who were thinking the same thing as we were; that it would be quiet. I did manage to fit in 7 runs though. No matter what I did though, I could not manage to beat my previous best of 14.131s @ 99.29mph. The best run I managed out of all 7 tonight was a 14.213s @ 98.81mph. I think I have had enough of the drags though. Until someone comes along and beats my time in an Aurion, I don't think I will bother to try and get a quicker time. Time to move on to QR I would say. Just for the fun of it, here is my second best run of the night. It was 14.27s @ 98.75mph.   17. Damn. That sucks. And you only just finished getting you car the way you want it. Depends on the damage. Have you spoken with your insurance company? Usually they let you know on what you need to do, such as bringing it to their assessment centre first. They would then usually recommend a repairer and you can see if you can then take it to someone else.

Don't be surprised if you are given 'no' for an answer. Otherwise, keep your eye on eBay as these things turn up on the odd occasion from dealers who need to get rid of parts quick.
  19. Look at the brake lights. I would say it's brighter because of the camera exposure.
  20. You can still apply it to the windscreen. It would probably be most effective here anyways. Unless of course you have a strip of tinting at the top of your windscreen, which most people don't do these days because the glass already has a tint in it for the upper part.

  22. OMG. I just had one of those moments. I just printed out the instructions on how to turn off the traction control (in preparation for the drags tonight), and just noticed a pattern. I found a new way to think of the procedure that makes it easy to remember: Just to recap, the procedure is: 1. Make sure the car is in Park and the parking brake is disengaged before you start the car. 2. Start the engine. 3. Engage the parking brake. 4. Fully depress the brake pedal and then release. 5. Fully depress the brake pedal and then release. 6. Disengage the parking brake. 7. Fully depress and hold down the brake pedal. 8. Engage the parking brake, then disengage it (while holding down the brake pedal). 9. Engage the parking brake, then disengage it (while holding down the brake pedal). 10. Release the brake pedal. 11. Engage the parking brake. 12. Fully depress the brake pedal and then release. 13. Fully depress the brake pedal and then release. Notice how after you start it with the parking brake off you are simply holding one brake while 'pumping' the other one twice, then you swap sides. So you start the car with the parking brake off, then: Hold the park brake and pump the normal brake twice, then you hold the normal brake and 'pump' the park brake twice, then you swap sides one more time. I dunno, but if you look at it that way, it is easier to remember. If someone out there has been looking at it that way already, then sorry for being a bit slow.

  25. Not trying to create an argument, but cars run better at the drags when it's cold right, and that's usually with up to a 10 degree temperature difference. I haven't watched that much drag racing, but I'm sure I've seen it many time that the cold air makes a difference.
