DIN SIZES - HELP

Recommended Posts

Are they any conversion kits that allow me to convert the double DIN space that the radio fits in, into two single DIN’s so that I can install a DIN radio in the top space and then install three(3) 2-1/16” gauges in the bottom. The car in question is a 2001 Toyota Sportivo

I’ve searched on the Internet and I can’t find any information, and hopefully there will be someone on this fforum who would’ve already done this on their car or can point me in the right direction. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

My car came secondhand with a single din radio, however it looked like a custom job. Maybe contact your local audio specialist/custom work dude on it?

Sorry I couldnt help anymore, would you like a photo of what it looks like? (not sure if it'd help  )

I have a 03 Sportivo which when I bought it the head unit had been swapped for a single din and the top space is now like a slot to stick stuff in. Looks stock, the plastic bit fits perfect, no gaps. So I would say this isn't a custom job, but there is something on the market that will fill in the gap left by downsizing your head unit.

Sounds like my one actually, except my slot is on the bottom. Only reason I thought it was custom was because some felty stuff had been placed on either side of the head unit to fill in the gap on the sides. Had a closer look today and it looks like the real deal (i.e no masking tape)

Check around because those 2 side peices cost $40.00 i can't find a toyota dealer that sells them for 7.50 ...

If its a ZZe122 2001 corolla then you can use those side peices to fill gaps just search around . maybe car audio stores

like below ...

That's exactly what I mean xoom. Now that I know this set-up is possible can you tell me where you were able to source that kit from? I live in Barbados, West Indies so if you purchased it locally I may not be able to have access to the same shops that you did that's why I'm hoping that you purchased it on the Internet.

Thanks again!

how long ago was that bigbum?

hope they arent 40.. or even 80 which is what someone in here was quoted

About 2 years. My neighbour (Mikey) bought his half a year ago for that price too.

Yeah, one dealer offered some guy a swap over for his stock headunit LOL

ok for those not wanting to shell out for the din setup ur alternative is to get something like the pic below ..... din bracket and 3 generic gauges from somewhere like justjap. Now i have never done it this way so im not 100% sure on fitment but it will cost u only $175 from justjap .... check it out urself

http://www.justjap.com/parts_ngauges.htm

p.s. they also have the oil sandwich plate adapters for those that dont want to t-piece the stock oil sensor mount.

After doing some research on the Defi DIN guage, if I were to purchase this product, would it be possible for me to remove the 3 gauges supplied with the product and put in 3 of my own seeing as I already have an Autometer oil pressure, voltmeter and vacuum gauge installed in the vehicle or is the product fully sealed and prevents any such alterations?

As an alternative if I were to use the DIN bracket (the one with the 3 holes in it) that xoom put up in his last post would it fit right into the bottom section of the existing headunit or would I have to mount that on the front of some sort of DIN housing and then screw the DIN housing into the bottom section of my existing 2 DIN slot?

Once again many thanks for all the responses and I look forward to getting these final questions answered as that will determine which set-up I use.

Regards

hey mate .... given the price your going to pay for the defi din gauge unit and i highly doubt you would want to do that .... also i dont think the unit easily comes apart plus the gauges are not 52mm. i think they are a tad smaller

as i said mate i hadnt tried this before but since u have the gauges already what do you have to loose as the bracket is only $30

  • 6 months later...

Just as an update to this thread, I decided to purchase the Defi DIN guage since I wanted to relocate the three guages that I had on my A-pillar. I had tried contacting Omori to buy a panel and three similar guages but they unfortunately went out of business so I had no other option but to go with Defi.

I will take some before and after shots when I perform the installation this weekend and post those pictures on the forum.

Thanks again to everyone who assisted, especially xoom.
