Hi guys, i wanted to get a shift light for my sportivo but didnt want to touch the wiring behind the dash so i was looking at those pivot shift lights, the ones that plug into your cigarette socket. Ive searched the forum but the only posts that seem to pop up are those that where selling them.

My question is, do they work on the corolla sportivos and seeing as they work off voltage change fluctuations (i assume) will having the system (such as subs) cause problems with the tacho as it causes headlight dimming and such at the moment.

not sure how its possible these could work without getting an RPM signal from either the Ignition, or the Crank Angle Sensor. Seems like the ciggie socket would be for power only??? not sure.

If the only thing that said shift light plugs into is your cigarette lighter socket; please DON'T waste your money on it. That looks like a whole heap of rubbish.

Generally it's said that they pick up on the high-frequency ripple that you'll get in the whole power supply because of the coil collapsing. Whether or not it actually works, or is reliable, I don't know.

Same kind of way that you get static/whining in the radio if you don't have a suppressor on your alternator (except with voltage ripple as opposed to EM ripple)

Gtech have been using the ciggie lighter socket for loong tiiime with great success.

I haven't chucked my Gtech in the Corolla yet, but it worked fine in my Mazda...

Gtechs aren't cheap junk either, and are very accurate gear. So if this eBay shiftlight reads the signals aswell as a Gtech, you won't have any troubles with it's accuracy.

Thanks guys, if it was cheaper than the price on ebay i would buy it and give it a go, but i guess ill just pass for now and go buy a proper shift light. Any idea on the price a auto elect. would charge for an install?

Yeh its just i dont really feel like taking my dash apart, id rather get a auto elect do it, that way if it stuff ups his work is under warranty.

I have 2 of the xede shift lights (6000 and 8200), I can email video of them if you like

yeh i wouldnt recommend a Shiftlight when the unit only rely's on power to get it working.

I have used 1 just supplying 12V and it only works when it feels like it. I have no idea how it works which is why it was crap.

I have Bought and used the Jaycar shiftlight and rev limiter kit. Its a bit more fiddly to build and i can only get it working on 1 RPM range, so whatever you set it to really.

It allows for 3 stages but i can only get 1 light to work and is around $35 AUD but requires assembly, which means you have to be good or aware of electronics, capacitors, resistors, diodes, LED's, Polarity.

Do it properly. Don't get a cigarette lighter one. Just sounds dodgy to begin with... and that's before you throw ebay into the equation.

Or better still, perfect you're gear changing ;)

ive been using the pivot super shift lamp for over 2 yrs now. no problems what so ever. you can connect it to the taco itself or simply plug it in the cig socket. i went with the cig socket and it seems pretty accurate to me. plug it in, set it to the revs you want etc etc. it saves it in its little computer thing and your set. i mean over 2 yrs, no drama, works well... i guess it speaks for it self.

Yeah i agree with HAT31T.

I have a genuine Pivot Shift Light in my skyline been using it for year now for drags.

Works perfectly, i say go for it. My one eventually got hardwired to the cigarette lighter.

Fair enough, i guess ill give ebay a try, it is off a power seller anyway (not the link, but others selling them are) so i guess it cant be too bad, and like hat31t said i can eventualy hook it up to the tacho if need be.

If you don't want to take your dash apart, you can go the easier route and splice into the ecu wires behind the glove box. I have my exede shift led mounted in one of the center air vents and it works very well.

Bought a pivot voltage stabiliser and PIVOT SUPER SHIFT LAMP M a while back. Delivery was within a week which was quick for a US site.

Installed the shift light inside the middle vent so you can't see it when it's not on. Works fine. Only problem with this type of shift light is that you have to rev up your engine to the rev that you want the shift light to turn on.

They are actually shipped off Singapore. Bought from them myself.

I didn't know it was shipped from Singapore. No wonder the deliverly was so quick.

It was pretty cheap at the time cause of the high AUS dollar.

thanks for that. btw how did you get it in your air vent?

I actually cut the wire of the shiftlight and wired it up to the cigarette lighter so you can't see the wires.

All the wires are under the dash, and stuck the controller inside that compartment under the power mirror buttons -> that compartment you pull out. (Hope you know what I mean)

For the vent, face both vents down and just pull it out slowly, it's very easy, it just pops out.

hmm well ill be picking up my stivo today hopefully because they are close don sat.. so ill take and extra long lunch.

      1999 Camry Driver's door locking hatch issue

      It's possible that it could be something fouling or dirt build up, dry, or a broken mechanism, so have a look and give the mechanism some lubrication, most likely though, it'll be the actuator.       Query about the correct rotors for 2006 ACV40 Camry.

      Hi, I'm looking at a set of front rotors for an ACV40 2006, 2.4L Camry. I got a good price on some RDA's at Sparesbox. However both RDA8112 and RDA7686 show as for my car and I'm wondering what the difference is and if there were changes to the rotors during the model production. So does anyone know which rotor is the correct one? Many thanks in advance.

      Your solution is akin to suggesting that switching to a different car manufacturer would resolve the issue. However, not everyone shares the same enthusiasm for using an iPhone as you do.

      Turboed Corolla Overbuilt?

      that engine will be fine, the rods are the main thing to be concerned about. The 2860 is a decent turbo for the 1zz but in this day and age I'd go for a G25-550. The injectors might be on the small side, we run DW1000's. You need a full length injector, the shorter injectors with adaptors like ID1050x dont fit the 1zz head. You don't need an aftermarket intake manifold, if you do go down that path, avoid the CNC innovations unit, it's garbage. Do the boost control with a MAC valve and control it with the aftermarket ECU of your choice, I use Link stuff on most of my builds with the G4x Storm as the minimum. I also wire a fuel pressure sensor and oil pressure sensor to the ECU in my installs. Use a decent intercooler, the better cores (ARE, PWR, Garrett, Vibrant, Plazmaman, Hypertune) work a lot better than the chinese stuff like Aeroflow. a 450x250-300 fits fairly well with custom end tanks to route the cooler pipes through next to the radiator Don't forget about the clutch and gearbox. These days I like the Uniclutch twinplate, Above 300whp you'll want to think about upgrading the 3rd and 4th gears in the box also with the SSC (Hollinger) gear set and install an LSD of your choice. If you're going to give it a hard time, you'll also want an oil cooler. I like the HKS thermostat type sandwich plates and setrab or mocal oil coolers with -10 speedflow fittings/lines (Chinese AN fittings neck down to a lot smaller internal diameter in their bends, not great for flow) You'll also want to think about brakes, Celica or Sportivo front calipers will bolt on with sportivo discs as a starting point. To have somewhere like Tunehouse do the work you'll want to budget somewhere between 20-40K

      I did the mathematics myself regarding costs vs benefits for fuel injector cleaner. I have changed from 91ULP to 95PULP and 98PULP. Price difference can be about 13 -20 cents. Compared to 91ULP, Premium quality fuel should have a better quality additive package designed to have superior engine cleaning capabilities so the engine can perform at their best.

      Camry Touring 2010 A/C Issues.

      Hi Guys, My Camry 2010 Touring just had a regas done on it and the next day for some reason it wasn't blowing cold air but the next day it is and now working with nice cold air BUT every now and then we can hear and feel a buzz for a few secounds and today while my sister took my car I could her like a mild knocking sound when stopped but goes away when driving off. Any idea what this could be and the A/C is always working now for now.

      High idling on the 2zzge even when warm (solved!)

      i am in sydney, just got 1992 tarago, same problem, 2k idle speed when engine warm, changed the whole throttle body, ECU, still same, help pls in sydney 0405987988
