Here's what supposed to be the first official photo of the 2011 Highlander/ Kluger. The updated Highlander will be sold officially in Russia & Ukraine (Markets where grey US/ Canadian-import versions of the Highlander are popular.) and make its debut on the 25th of August in Moscow.

NOTE: What Autoblog refers to as 'turn signal repeaters in the mirrors', those are actually the puddle lamps (They turn on, as you unlock the car.). You can still see the fender mounted indicators (Not mandatory in US/ Canadian-market cars, which could explain the confusion.).

Excellent! Thanks so much for posting this!

Now since I needed a side by side view to really see the differences, here's something I quickly put together with another kluger (KX-R admittedly) in more or less the same profile.

Hi Pugsly,

I like the new look! Thanks for posting the comparison of the old and the new. I'll place an order this week!

Me too - phew! Luckily the cheese and kisses gives her thumbs up too. I hope the back looks just as good. I like the styling changes of the front with the exception of the chrome around the foglights. That looks a bit cheap to me.

Nice to see they've moved towards projector headlights, but I wouldn't say the new front end is more aggressive. Not sure that I like the new one.

Thanks for the pics!

each to their own but the facelift isn't really taking my fancy... somehow the new front end reminds me of the cheap and nasty SUV from China (Great Wall Motors)- not that there's anything wrong with that ;-)

Fair enough. I haven't seen the GWM ones.

There should be some more photos around in the next 24hrs. The Moscow motor show opens today (our evening) and the facelifted model is expected to be announced there.

looks very stylish.. cosmetically it looks like a brand new model more than a facelift!

really?! - change the grille and lights and that's a "new model"?! it looks EXACTLY like my current one inside...disappointing. Where's the memory seat for the driver? new trim to replace the plastic 'wood'? new wheel designs?

I agree but I wouldn't give up on the wheel designs. The Toyota dealer I contacted read out the list of changes and wheel design was one of them.

I don't think there is too much wrong with the interior of the current model!

Apart from rear seat not being split fold...

Well, I did say cosmetically; everyone knows its the same car underneath.

That headlight is a totally different design to the outgoing model, it changes the whole front end appearance of the car making it look more like the rx330.

Midlife facelifts are typically very subtle with only very minor cosmetic changes, unlike this one.

On another note, is the current model Prado a facelift or a new model?

I think the interior of the current model needs a thicker steering wheel (and i do prefer three spokes like the RAV4) and more lateral support in at least the front seats.

I do like that the amber/orange is gone from the taillights though.

Shame of it is that I honestly believe a TRD version of the Kluger would have sold like hotcakes!! As would a TRD badged Blade Master G (Japan only Corolla hatch with 3.5 V6).

I'm with you. The new grille/headlight combination looks like the face of some crazy robot from a Manga cartoon.

Apart from rear seat not being split fold...

Has anyone made any inquiries about getting the seat modified?

Good point - it might be worth looking into whether Toyota can retrofit the new split fold seat. Given that the interior doesn't seem to have changed it should use the same seat mounts etc..?

The Russian media pack for the Highlander - http://highlander.toyota.ru/media/Highlander.pdf - shows a split 3rd row for the top of the range model, USB plug in the lower centre console (near the heated seat switch), hard drive in sound system, rear fog light, and wait for it...slightly different cup holders in the front!! Also, some different colours too...
