  • 1 month later...

time to get those angry monkeys on... (thanks to fillit, 4ABHGE and Woot Woot)

introducing the C60 gearbox with quaife LSD monkey wrench racing. 3.9:1 final drive ratio (the same ratio at the 5spd corolla gearbox)

transferring the parts over...

IMG-20130402-WA0008_zps59a67702.jpg

poor car bleeding...

taking the box off...

IMG-20130402-WA0001_zpsc9f7c84b.jpg

checking the clutch was aligned properly. had to check with eyes in the end. stupid aligning tool was useless as!

after our first attempt. we got to this and raged quitted for the day.

IMG-20130404-WA0004_zpsaae99264.jpg

we couldn't get the gearbox on for hours. sir woot woot and sir 4AGBHE and i couldn't get the box on the damn car. so we sat there and looked at the box then ground then box again for 10 mins. sit woot woot said: i feel bad being a quitter man...

then another 10 mins of looking down on the ground and the box again. after what seemed like an eternity, i jumped up and said "fuck! this box is going in TODAY! i don't give a shit!!

then this happened...

IMG-20130405-WA0006_zpsd536c4e2.jpg

OH&S at its finest!

and...within 15 minutes and a very sore finger...

20130405_163257_zps98c867f9.jpg

THE BOX IS IN!!!

tightening back up the bolts...

IMG-20130405-WA0007_zps84353097.jpg

and verdict? I hated it at first... acceleration has slowed down in the straight line by more than 2 seconds 0-100km/hr. However... the LSD made a huge difference on the corners. I even grip in the wet too now. holy crap! and i have more fuel economy :) traveling at 100km/hr my revs at 2.5k rpm.

The fun of straight line killing v8s is over... until i reach a corner, brake brake brake... i'm still accelerating looks sideways at v8 turd. "waves BYE!" :P

oh, note to self and others out there. please replace the rubber o-ring that plugs in with the speed sensor, i didn't listen to sir 4AGBHE and i lost approximately 200 mls of oil in 7 days :( just replaced it today hopefully it should fix the leaking issues!

long ratio gearbox, most of you guys know whats coming next... :)

and just fyi... these are now my max speeds in each gear. of course all done on off roads.

1st - 80km/hr @ 8400 rpm

2nd - 130km/hr @ 8400 rpm

3rd - 175km/hr @ ~8000 rpm? didn't reach the end, gear ratio too long and road got bumpy.

4th - ???

5th - ???

6th - 340km/hr according to gear calculator... ;)

from 1st to 2nd shifting at 8400rpm, drops to 5,300rpm

from 2nd to 3rd shifting at 8400rpm, drops to 5,700rpm

clearly i'm out of the power range... so maybe apexi pfc for now... and then... :spiteful:

or maybe i should just change the final drive ratios over form the old to new box... so many options... hehe

thats all for today... phew!

thanks dude.

ok, wheel bearing on the rear left is goners. so went to wholesale bearings in north sunshine and picked up one for 100 bucks!

out with the old...

20130420_001657_zps489858ae.jpg

and in with the new!

20130420_001650_zps1dc9cbf3.jpg

and this happened on the other rear side as i tightened the lock nut. didnt even tried hard either.

20130420_012041_zpsce32f66a.jpg

further more, threaded 2 aluminum wheel nuts. next time, steel ones all over. not buying aluminum ones anymore

now rolling on 3 nuts... not cool. will use the good studs on the other shot wheel bearing and hub and swap them over. taking it easy on the left turns but the right... oh yeah!!! :P might just replace the other hub bearing too since its only 100 bucks lol

after destroying 4 aluminum nuts in 24 hours, i've decided to get the muteki nuts from the USA. open ended and forged 1008 steel. now the studs will snap first before the damn nuts will Ggg.gif

but otherwise, its damn nice feel and smell!

and this happened.

20130429_235448_zps20225302.jpg

while driving normally in laverton depressed clutch in and something gave way, then clutch pedal went firmer. it still depresses and releases but i cannot go into gear. going to tow it to the transmission specailist. if the box has to go off, i will change something else in it :spiteful:
