Advice RE: Toyota Aurion 2008 AT-X

Hey guys!

Okay I must admit, as yet I do not own a Toyota. But today I put down a deposit for an 2008 Aurion AT-X(which I can get back if I so desire). I'm 18 years old, and this will be my first car. Parents have helped contribute to my budget.

Anyway, the Aurion is a 2008 model AT-X. It's white. It has had one owner previously - company car (NAB). Done 62k. Does not have a scratch to be seen.

When looking at Aurions I loved the look of the Sportivo, but its outside my range. However, I think a spoiler on the back of the AT-X, tinted windows (especially on a white care)and possibly new wheels when I can afford it would make it look pretty good too.

What are your thoughts?

team white FTW!

IMO the ducktail spoiler looks hot on the aurions.. sportivos and non sportivos...

Haha yeah white looks sick.

Where is the cheapest place to get the modifications done whilst not compromising quality?

I'm in a similar situation, just turned 20, got my silver aurion ATX ('07), good condition, 90000 k's.

Spoiler: If you can paint/fit it yourself, best bet is probably ebay. For $200 delivered you can get your hands on it.

Rims: Shop around, but IMO wait until your tyres need replacing before you get new rims (unless you're just gonna get 16" alloys)...because tyres are expensive and rim+tyre packages are generally cheaper

Fog lights: get them! Another $200ish on ebay

Head unit: really up to you, wont affect exterior look but comes in handy

Also I'd say to get a bonnet protector if you are doing hwy driving (stone chips are not cool!). As bad as a bit of plastic on the bonnet sounds...it isn't actually that bad.

Ummm for everything else look around on these forums, do a few searches, its amazing what you can find.

And of course, good luck with the car, drive safely!

Thanks mate.

How much am I looking at for the installation of fog lights and spoiler if I don't do it myself

In relation to the head unit, I really don't have much experience with the mechanics behind cars etc, is every head unit compatible to fit with the Aurion, or are there certain requirements? And the wiring... should that be done through an auto electrician?

Not a problem ;)

Not really sure on installation, but I would say for something like the spoiler where it will need to get painted to make sure you go somewhere with a good reputation. Sometimes if you go to a cheaper place you may find that they will not match the paint properly, say they did....all sorts of problems.

There are a few threads here on head units, most of the OEM clones on ebay (search: aurion GPS) fit, look part of the car and work extremely well for their price (they are around $5-600...go to jb hifi and something with similar specs can cost you almost $2k!)

Welcome mate. If you are in Brisbane, I can fit a head unit for you in a short time if you take it to one of our meets. If not, it's not really that hard to do. Fog lights are fairly easy as well because the wiring for it is already there.

That's it. I'm moving to Brisbane

haha a head unit would be no where near the biggest job done at a weekly meet...

Welcome to the forums, interested that you'd choose an Aurion but that's not a bad thing though. Seems like we can't bundle all of the youth of today's society in one lump! :toast:

Brisbane meets are the best. Spring Hill Loop Mechanics + KK Donuts/Sarah's brownies + conversations of the... interesting kind. You interstaters are missing out.

Congrats on the new purchase. You've made a good choice with the Aurion. I reckon they are one of the best looking cars on the road with just a few tweaks here and there. Sounds like you have the right ideas to start anyway and with the help you get off the people in these forums, it's happy days this summer...

Been reading these forums for a while now and gotta say it's been bloody helpful & pretty funny too.

The lowdown:

Bought 2008 silver Aurion ZR6 Aug 2009 (done 38500km)

Rear ended at 60kmh by challenged nissan patrol driver Aug 2010

Swore and chucked a wobbly for a few days.

Did insurance companies (two) job for them and organised valuation for "write off" purposes. Yes it hit me f**kn hard.

Purchased dealer owned TRD Aurion 3500SL in silver Sep 2010 (done 38600km)

Now is that a coincidence or what??

Thanks for all the info, one day soon I hope to add something useful back.

Cheers

Society is substantially larger than TOCAU I would say.

Whilst this is true. There's is a few on here so then it stands to reason that there's also plenty other young ones who just don't bother with the forums lol.

Alrighty guys!

Picked it up this afternoon from the dealership. Had an independent RACV test done before I picked it up and it is in excellent condition, spoke to the guy who did it and he says it's one of the best he's ever seen (condition wise).

Hasn't yet been registered but was able to drive it home on a 7 day permit. Going to register it next Wed at Vic Roads. Amazingly smooth. Love it. A lot of power compared to what I've previously been driving (4 cyl). I find myself speeding quite easily actually. Tried out the speed warning when over a certain KM/H, will be very handy and probably save me a few $$$.

Getting tinting at Tint a car within the next couple of weeks. Thinking about a spoiler.

One question. What's the best way to get an iPod playing through the radio? Do I go to Super Cheap and buy one of those things that gets it playing through a certain frequency, cos I can't see any input for an iPod?

Cheers guys

Yay another P plater Aurion driver :toast:

Give me a PM if you need help with the audio stuff.

I never use the speed alert because the roads drive keep changing speed every few kms. A GPS is your friend if you can get one.
