good old Mobil being scrapped by Toyota

Recommended Posts

just got my car serviced today and apparently genuine Toyota oil was poured into my engine, not Mobil. I asked them why they did that and they said that they don't want to continue using oil that is now being made in China (Mobil). interesting...just wanted to let you guys know. one question though, they gave my car 15w40 semi-synthetic motor oil, is that a bit thick since the engines still new (i know that the manual states that that grade is allowed)? they gave my engine that because they didn't have the recommended 10w30.

apparently the genuine oils were made with Castrol, but for some reason the dealer i got it done used Mobil before they knew those oils were going to be made in China-they said its recommended(Mobil's website states that as well). i strange thing is that I haven't seen Castrol semi-synthetic oil in that grade (15w40), only mineral based.
