TOYOTA has stuffed a 1.8-litre Corolla engine into its all-new Yaris light car just weeks after its Australian and European launches.

Dubbed the Yaris T Sport high-performance concept, the hottest Yaris yet produced was revealed late last week ahead of its world debut at the Geneva motor show on February 28.

Offering 100kW instead of the garden variety Yaris 1.3’s 63kW – or the Yaris 1.5’s 80kW – the T Sport is likely to be named Yaris Sportivo in Australia, where it’s currently under consideration for release.

The T Sport concept also features a new grille, bumpers and alloy wheels plus revised suspension, but is unlikely to surface Down Under inside 12 months.

Sounds good but I doubt Toyota OZ will ever sell it

My only concern with the Yaris T-Sport is that the Yaris we have now is only marginally lighter than the Corolla ... one would expect the T-Sport to be fully loaded, so the power to weight ratio isn't going to be too flash, whether it has 93 or 100kW.

I'd be taking a test drive as soon as they arrive, if they do come here.

yeah i have to agree

so to counteract the weight issues they should put the 2zzge engine in it :D :P

now that'd be a weapon!

haha...i agree too :)

but the 1zzfe in the Yaris would be good enough...provide that the car is so light....that would be amazing :)

A well known Toyota Dealer told me that the 1.8L engine is to only come out in the Sedan and not the hatch in Oz...

If the Sedan is the only Yaris member to get the 1.8L, then all the more reason for an engine swap :D :yahoo:
