  1. Man! that is awesome! Toyota really got it right with the look of the Aurion. Your car looks sweet in white.
  2. Mate. Engine Ping aka knock will lead to more serious and costly engine damage. Are you sure your car is not meant to run on premium fuels only? If you find it runs fine on premium then i'd say that's what it is. (this is usually written inside the fuel flap) alternatively, if you find that the car specs say it can run on normal unleaded, then I'd say you have a detonation problem. the reason you are hearing it more when going uphill is because of engine load. This can be due to ignition timing - You'll need to retard it to solve detonation. You can adjust this by turning the distributor (I forgot which direction - it's been a while). You'll need a timing gun to do this properly. timing is expressed in "degrees before top-dead-center" or BTDC. You'll need to consult other resources to figure out what is the proper setting. If you don't have a timing gun, you can buy them for fairly cheap. My recommendation is to take it to the mechanic if you're not too confident. But do it ASAP or you'll stuff your engine up.
  3. hehe. the kitted up version is one of those cars you secretly want to own but try to convince your sister to get instead - I call it the Cleo Magazine syndrome. Hahahahahaha
  4. Ooohh! Free extractors - you lucky sod.
  5. If everything fits nice and the rubber elbow is not flexed when the engine is off then there's no reason to take everything out. It's just that when I was installing mine, i initially tried the wheel arch mount point and the rubber elbow had to flex flightly to accomodate the angle of the CAI piping. I remember a few members complaining of cracked rubber elbows so, following Bill's advice, i thought i'd install it properly so I wouldn't have to go hunting for a new rubber elbow in a few months time. Yoshi. I didn't realise that was your car. hehehe
  6. When mounting, remember that the engine does not sit still in the engine bay, there is a fair amount of movement during normal driving, not to mention when slugging the car around. The reason the "chopped" bracket was used and the wheel arc mount point abandoned was because that position gave the rubber hose the most freeplay for engine movement. Look here and you will see the kind of engine movement that can be found on our cars

Hey man. Nice ride. I love how you did most thing yourself. =) keep us posted
  8. Ooops. I should have said 8200rpm . However, Toyota did market the 2ZZ to make 141Kw - that was at the center of the whole South African contraversy. My point was that Toyota techs have been quoted on many occassion to say that we should not be revving the car past 6rpm....blah blah blah. Anyway, this has been covered many times so i'll leave it at that.
  9. Hey man. I've got exactly the same issue. I've taken it to the exhaust shop and there doesn't seem to be any physical damage to the exhaust. It sounds like the exhaust is knocking against something. I can't get under my car to look because it's too low.
  10. Yeah. that's accurate up to point. The ZZ123R is the model/chassis code for the Sportivo. I think what he means to say is that he has the 2ZZ-GE engine which has more power than the "regular" Corolla i.e 140Kw rather than 100Kw. The Sportivo also has a 6 speed manual box as apposed to the 5speed found in the other Corollas. Hope this helps and i hope you buy the Sportivo.
  11. no worries. I've rediscovered my "lead foot" over this weekend. I can definitely feel the the difference in acceleration low in the rev range. the car is more pokey from 2.5K rpm upwards. I don't know why i didn't do this mod sooner.
  12. hey dude. The 87-89 ST Celica's had the 3S-FE. rated back then to produce 89Kw at the fly. Why don't you consider the 3S-GE? Same block but with a different head designt. the entire engine is slightly smaller because of the lower rocker cover design. Both engines have the same mount points.
  13. I thinks she's an arrogant patronising pompous azzwipe that thinks she's a pre-school teacher! And she's annoying to boot. Guess which way i voted?! LOL
  14. Magic and I have received ours. this one ----->(1 pair tried to drop off... no1 was there)
  15. This has been covered numerous times. just do a search for "rear skirt". it'll save everyone having to repeat themselves.
  16. The ECU controls the lift engagement point based on parameters such as coolant temp and engine load. check your oil and coolant levels aswell.
  17. Yah! received the notice in the mail.
  18. is it also making the noise when you start it up in the morning. i had a similar issue last week. the guy at the exhaust shop took off the stain shield on the resonator and the startup noise went away. The shield has taken a few knocks and i think the dents and the fact that it's loose caused it to tap against the resonator when cold. the noise went away when at operating temp. I've still got another clunking noise when driving over certain bumps and only when the car is turning left - that might be suspension related.
  19. do you mean the bolts on the flange or on the bearing hub side of the drive shaft?
  20. Are you guys from Sydney? I haven't even received a notice in the mail. hopefully it arrives tomorrow. =)
  21. Nice. Love the car. You can see the difference in HP from the last couple of seconds when the WRX starts creeping further away on the straight.
  22. what kind of noise? is the noise happening when it's cold or hot. your post is kind of confusing. Is it louder when it's hot or cold? Also, what do you mean the oil filter is too small?!? doesn't toyota replace it when they service the car. i don't see how it has anything to do with you? Did you replace the filter yourself? When was your last service?
  23. The mechanic either doesn't know you have the sportivo or doesn't know about the 2ZZ (which is kind of stupid IMO) Just tell him it's the one that Toyota marketed as having 141Kw with a 8600rpm rev limit and high lift cams that kick in at ~6000rpm. :o
  24. Awesome! did they come by courier or Australia Post?
