  1. Oh man, I HOPE they fix this and give us the ability to view the site on the full version on Safari for iPhone. :(
  2. I was thinking it was more of the quiet diesel tractor engine type of sound... lower in frequency as mentioned. There are just so many things on this engine that makes all kinds of noises. You have the VVT-i controllers, VVT-i solenoids, the PCV VSV (on the right side of the engine.. makes a pulsating hissing sound), then you have the engine in general. What ever happened to simplicity. When you consider though what is going on inside the engine in a single combustion cycle, then multiply this into how many times it goes per second, the sounds you hear are nothing out of the ordinary. Every engine is different and some make noises that others don't... even under perfectly normal operation. I have that tractor sound as well. The engine in the Aurion is not very quiet. Best example would be our family friends Nissan Maxima. Even on a cold start the engine is dead quiet, and when its warmed up and they drive away it's like a Hybrid. No noise what so ever, just tyre noise! Big difference from Aurion. Anyway, that tractor sound is usually noticeable when my engine is cold, once its warmed up the engine can be quite quiet. But I do hear that whistling sound in the background, something I have not heard of yet in my car. Will have to listen to it.
  3. I think I know which sound you are talking about in the video. There is that weird whistling sound. I'll have a listen to my engine to see if I get the noise and report back.
  4. Yeah, but your engine is probably hot a lot of the time. Sometimes I make it to my destination without the car at 100% operating temperature.
  5. This is essentially what I wanted to know. Did you end up going to those guys to get the service done? Also, thanks for everyone else who replied. Appreciate it. Will see what I do when I creep closer to the service time.
  6. I gave her the ultimate wash. Today was a warm 20 degree day with the sun out and not a cloud in site. Your typical and wonderful spring day. So I washed, waxed, vacuum, tyre dressed the Aurion. God I love it when she sparkles like that.
  7. So, I checked my oil today and it is getting quite black. And I need someone to help me to decide to change it or not! Reason I ask is that I don't do 15,000K a year and so all of my services would be by date, not KM. My last service was 60K and now I'm sitting on 66,000. It would take me at least another couple of months to cover 1500KM for my 67500 additional service. But upon inspection my oil is quite black. Kind of like this dude My next scheduled service is next year on April (forth month). But I don't want to wait that long because the oil is looking very unhealthy. I will be doing this additional service myself and do my scheduled service at my mechanic to get the log book stamped as I am still under warranty. Soooo, what should I do :S. Wait(If I wait, my next service is still 7 months away, counting from october), service it myself, etc To be honest, if I had the money I wouldn't even think twice about not doing it but since I am strapped for cash these days it's a hard choice. edit: Reason for why my oil would be black so quickly after only 6000KM since last service would be because I start stop my car a lot and it does a lot of short trips (its mainly local). double edit: I'll be using Penrite HPR5. This **** costs a pretty penny. If you think there is better oil around the same price ($46 for 5 litres) please do tell :)
  8. As i would have expected, no sludge or **** in the sump other than the broken bits, there where some burnt oil marks in and around the small end and gudgeon pin which you can see on the pics ( i would suspect from the heat of fireing), The removed big end, and the bearings had no burn marks and looked good also, the pots had no carbon build up at all and no carbon build up on the piston tops or valves either, i wouldnt expect any carbon build up as I only ever put BP ultimate 98octaine fuel it it. So all in all for a motor that has done 76000km I thought that it was very clean and should have been good for 500,000km. Way back I had a new 91 Ford Laser (livewire) I only ever put synthetic oil and BP 98 in it and when my EX took ownership of it, it had done 350,000km and never missed a beat, that car i drove at its optimum every day of the week 4000rpm every gear (top of the taco, 3800rpm in the book was optimum). if the ex continued with the 98fuel and good oil im confident that engine would still be going strong. Awesome, that is good to know that I am not buying BP98 for no reason. Cheers! ;)
  9. haha, mate mine was also a 97 camry :P
  10. Hey mate, you are probably one of the first guys to have a look inside the engine properly. How was the condition? Any sludge, oil build up etc that you noticed?
  11. A bit of a flame war here and there won't hurt anybody. Sometimes I like the information put up when people are comparing different cars. Edit: Let me start. What is better FWD or RWD? Jokingg
  12. No doubt that this car was driven off it's tits. Was thrashed from a dead cold engine, engine was left idling hours on end (police don't turn off their cars with strobes on, it kills the battery). But really, doesn't matter. She will still go on for years to come. My old camry was absolutely thrashed, and I mean thrashed! The guy I bought my camry from(family friend), his son would treat every car like its a V8 supercar so I know it was a thrashed car/engine. But with a lot of TLC I could have sold the car with a guarantee that the engine will last you another 200,000KM :)(was sitting on 250,000 when sold)
  13. I'm on 65,000K and still using factory tyres. These things never want to wear out. Still heaps of decent meat on them. Yeah, but you most likely don't drive like I do. Remember... I went through a set of Adrenalins in 18,000km. hahaha, come on man. I don't granny the car that much! I do give it a decent boot from time to time. But purchasing BP98 all the time really does keep my foot easy on the accelerator. Don't want to go through my premium fuel too quick
  14. I guess they used gold instead of oil. I'm on 65,000K and still using factory tyres. These things never want to wear out. Still heaps of decent meat on them.
  15. I'm guessing you are after a ZR, if so I doubt anyone would want to swap. The ZR's are still selling for a pretty penny on carsales. Ones with 45K are still selling in the high 20's ($26,000). The 06 Turbo is a nice car but lacks a lot of features and safety compare to the ZR.
  16. Far out. But hey, a new 0KM engine! I wouldn't mind if they blew mine up. I would be ****** off heaps but when I think of a new engine being put in I would stop complaining :P
  17. THAT SUCKS! JEALOUS ******S! But mate, just one thing, even without shoes your car is farrrrrrrking hot Will keep an eye out on the web too. All the best mate. What goes around comes around.
  18. You guys are lucky (this is the electronic reading off my trip computer) my average in the city is always 11.5 give or take. In Melbourne there is a traffic light about every 5 metres and they are NEVER synced properly. So it's always Green, and next light will be red so you need to stop. FFS.
  19. Did you ask the dealer to check for "brake shudder and wheel wobble"? Yes I have heard of it happen, but hoping not to have it happen to me. (I saw photos of your engine torn down - ouch!). Where? Would love to have a look.
  20. Yeah, it looks like a mirror image. Not digging this look at all, but obviously not factory, thank god!!
  21. That looks tough mate. Loving the look and seriously jealous  B)
  22. I'm hearing you there, my TRD is like a child to me, i don't let it out of my sight, when i do i would walk around it on return to make sure the paint hasn't faded from someone even looking at it to closely. yep the feeling Ive had for 2 weeks since it happened, i couldn't explain how i feel, very mixed. All the best man. :(
  23. OP, wasn't it enough asking this question on another forum? :P
