  1. Yes indeed. These modern tech engines are very highly strung and you really need to follow the manufacturers advice. They provide this for a reason so I'd rather not risk it with experimentation. Oil is pretty cheap these days, especially if you, like us, wait for the specials and go nuts and stock up. Then there would be no excuse to do 5k service intervals
  2. They handle brilliantly too. Just like a go kart !
  3. I'm sure it was an impeccable vehicle. Fussy owners usally do lol. It would've been nice to see the Celica continue. It had a good run since it's debut in 1970. We used to kick around in the early to mid 70s Celicas back in the late 80s early 90s and they were just great cars. I miss those days.
  4. I've never used the Wolfgang stuff but I know they make top notch products. I can appreciate the price tag too. It reflects proper R&D and even more, they know what concourse owners expect. Their products deliver from the feedback I've read.
  5. Are you saying that the beep works only when you press the fob buttons and does not when you using the wireless (hand option) ?
  6. Hi Mohamad. Can you be more specific please ? I doubt the water pump has anything to do with that rattle up top. Sounds more like a valve train problem or lack of lubrication.
  7. Hello Mr Bancroft. I sympathize with you but I wouldn't bother with dealership stupidity. I'd do my own research. There are plenty of aftermarket options even if Toyota didn't bother to make one specifically for your GX. There are many top notch dealer such as ARB, Rhinoracks, Thule just to mention a few. I'm sure you'll find what you're looking for. All the best and we hope you find the right solution. Cheers
  8. Hello Kevin and welcome to the forum. We hope you enjoy your stay here and remember, there's no such thing as a stupid question so feel free to ask anything and everything. Regards Tony
  9. I hate oil threads, but if I have to offer advice, I'd say stick with the 5w-30. Modern engines have pretty tight tolerances when cold and need a thinner viscosity for this "cold start up". I think 15w is too thick, especially if you live in a cold region. I've been using the same 5w-30 oil since day one of my ownership and everything is running like clockwork. No funny ticking noises, smoke, rattles or unusual behaviour. It's up to you, but for me personally, I wouldn't use a 15w oil on a 2GR-FE
  10. I think 5 minutes might not be long enough. If you have the time, allow it to discharge for say half an hour and then re connect and see. If the problem is still there, go back into your stereo settings and make sure the beep is enabled. If it is, then I'd be looking at the speaker for the beep. I was told it's located in one of the headlights. The plug may have come loose. I'm not at home right now and can't check it on mine for you but I will try and take a look when I get back. I suspect it's still the same system on the 2017 as it is on my 2012. Have you looked in your vehicle handbook for any additional information ?
  11. 1000% in agreement ! Magnificent !. It looks like day one. I miss the old Celicas. They were excellent cars and practically bulletproof.
  12. I had a grin all the way through that video lol. Sounds a lot different on the track but when the guy started and revved it up, man it sounds angry ! Thanks for the video
  13. Haha, my stupid. I thought I heard differently. I didn't have the volume up and missed that key word lol. Sorry guys. I'll see if I can track that video down.
  14. He actually mentioned it sheepishly not wanting to turn the video into an advertisement for the company, but it was the Lucas brand of oil. Not available here of course but he turned to that oil because of a Tractor diesel engine that came to him that had done 12,000 hrs and it looked mint inside with no sludge or discoloration. That was all the convincing he needed. Go to 14:43
  15. I would take a stab and just say there could be some kind of software glitch. Nothing major not having the beep really and having said that I doubt it would affect the normal function of the vehicle. Sometimes the ECU can get funky and behave strangely kind of like your mobile phone or PC. A reset usually cleans it up. You can try to do a hard reset of the car's system by disconnecting the battery terminals, THEN, short them out. This will discharge the capacitative storage of the ECU, clears all the fault codes and refreshes the system essentially.
  16. I'd try squirting some lubricating spray into the key way and using the key, drive it in and out to help loosen the wafers. If the barrel is actually damaged and lube doesn't do it, then you can purchase a 2nd hand barrel from a wrecker and have it keyed to your original key at your local key-smith. If you are planning on replacing the barrel yourself, you will need the snap bolts to re attach the barrel to the steering column. Your local dealer will have these. The original mounting bolts will have a "sheared" top so there is no way of loosening it with a regular tool. You'll have to loosen them with a sharp centre punch starting from the outermost section to allow for rotation. Anti clockwise direction of course. Let us know how you go. Cheers
  17. It's quite simple really. If you do regular oil changes, you will never get sludge or significant staining. While ignorance can be bliss for some, this can be detrimental if applied to extended oil service as the modern day service booklet would allow you to do. This 15k-25k service interval is absolutely ludicrous and for those companies that advocate this should be shot down in flames. Considering, some if not most, will not be using a high quality engine oil. By saving a few bucks in the short terms will cause larger repair costs down the track. As most of you know, I've been doing my oil service every 10K or less and I have no staining that I can see at all. So it would be testament not only to the Nulon quality but doing regular servicing and so as I'm going forward I am even considering doing the oil between 5k - 7.5k. Oil is relatively cheap, as you say Ashley, so it wouldn't be a bad idea. My last oil service was after 5K and there was some discolouration starting to appear in the oil indicating the very contamination that can harm the engine if left according to the manufacturers guide. I came across this video and initially I thought this guy was crazy, but as I continued to watch, it made more sense.
  18. I'm pretty sure this one is a copy of the Provent. I love how they write in the title... "for Provent" etc etc... Another example of how the Chinese Steal Intellectual property and go off to make and sell their own and undercut the companies who put millions of dollars into R&D and marketing only to have the rug pulled from under them. https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Oil-Catch-Can-Filter-Separator-For-ProVent-200-Fit-Toyota-Ford-Nissan-Turbo-4WDs/273165494510?_trkparms=aid%3D1110012%26algo%3DSPLICE.SOIPOST%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D20200420083544%26meid%3D7c67432131c74564880ccd638104e590%26pid%3D100008%26rk%3D4%26rkt%3D12%26sd%3D273964926249%26itm%3D273165494510%26pmt%3D1%26noa%3D0%26pg%3D2047675%26algv%3DPromotedSellersOtherItemsV2%26brand%3DUnbranded&_trksid=p2047675.c100008.m2219 If you need 3/8" you can always get the appropriate adapters and fit them at the inlet and outlets of the can then run your 3/8" tubing. This is the real McCoy https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Genuine-Mann-Hummel-Provent-200-Catch-Can-Air-Oil-Separator/272816894609?epid=28014257765&hash=item3f85277291:g:vt8AAOSwgsxaa~iS:sc:AU_StandardDelivery!2148!AU!-1
  19. My appreciation for this device just shot up a notch. After having seen a few videos on the detrimental effects on non catch can fitted engines, especially diesels, I reckon anyone who hasn't fitted one yet should do so. Especially if you own a diesel. We are being conned by the manufacturers and if you want your engine to stay clean and healthy you'd get one fitted. I know petrol engines don't suffer the same affliction the diesels do, but it's still beneficial to have one rather than not. This video is an eye opener
  20. Definitely need to hear the situation. Try and hone in on the spot you think the noise is coming from. Are you able to provide a clear video ? Does it do it on a cold start up or ONLY when hot ?? Not sure what you mean sorry. There could be a multitude of possibilities with ticking noises.
  21. Hi Ken, That's really unfortunate. I've never seen factory paint peel off like that. I have, however, seen post factory paint peel mainly due to lack of good base prep work. It looks like the primer hasn't adhered to the metal which may indicate surface contamination prior to the application of the base primer. Factory paint prep is pretty impeccable and I honestly think it's been repainted at some stage in it's life. Lucky for you, the roof section can be repainted without having to blend the colour in anywhere else, due to the sectional design. I'd have it done before the rust sets in.
  22. Which Ryco one are you looking at for the Aurion because there doesn't seem to be a specific one. I had a look on the website and Ryco have a universal one which I'm guessing would be suitable but can't seem to find it on Sparesbox or the others. I see the RCC350 on ebay but not the RCC351, whatever the difference is. Yes, they are quite expensive and It would be nice if they offered the 'formed' hoses for a specific model. Straight cut hoses don't look factory when trying to bend them into position. I have to say though, the Ryco catch cans have that factory look and also seem to be well made.I can also understand the price differential too as It's a product made through R&D using quality materials and not mass produced from China. (not knocking the Chinese products here either). Just saying. I'll have a poke around and see what pops up.
  23. The oil is an unusual colour perhaps due to the additive ? It looks to have an olive tone to it. When is the next oil change due ? I agree too that oil is cheaper than a seized engine. I get a good sense of satisfaction doing an oil change among other things.
  24. Probably what you expected hey Ash ? De sludging an engine is a tedious and time consuming endeavour. I'm sure it will get there with time. The catch can definitely needs a filter of sorts. I'd be interested to see the next phase of this experiment. Just a little off topic if I may. I was on you tube and came across this from a past member who doesn't feature much here anymore. I recalled the name instantly lol..
  25. Agreed. I always tend to leave a longer distance between myself and those semi trucks primarily to avoid stone chips and other debris that gets flung up. I always welcome others behind me to even overtake me and become my buffer lol..😁
