  1. I find caravan drivers and horse float drivers THE MOST frustrating to be behind. There is a sense of selfishness about it as they force you to drive at the pedestrian speeds when there are no other options. You get that eye rolling moment and the famous words "here we go again" 🙄
  2. It's got to be different for different makes of cars and their designated engines. I don't know how the so called experts can claim that the most fuel efficient speed is between 80 and 90 KLM/HR. It depends on many things, not just speed. Different engines will have different sweet spots and it's all dependent on gearing and revs, not to mention other external factors. I suspect the 2GR-FE has that sweet spot at around whatever the revs are when travelling 110 klm/hr. It's really a small price to pay for the exhilaration when putting the boot in. The 2GR-FE loves to get up and go. It's a real Jekyll and Hyde engine and I love it !
  3. Either way, outstanding figures for a V6 in anyone's language. I'd love to see a Falcon 6 or Commodore get even close to that. That good old 2GR-FE Torque curve
  4. Good news Ash. It's possible the PCV did get stuck. When you remove the valve cover be sure to post up some pics so we can see the innards. Stay safe and enjoy your time away.
  5. We have a Pick'nPayless wrecking yard near where I live and when they get a 50 series in I'm going to scavenge as many OEM clips I can before they go to waste among other things.
  6. That's excellent real world feedback. Exactly the vindication I need to stick with rubber I think. I suspected that the hardness of the nolathane product could compromise the ride and the addition of the squeak is the final nail in the coffin for me. I'll stick to rubber I reckon. I don't want to change the ride dynamics of the Aurion. I enjoy it the way it is actually. Thanks for the info ZZT86
  7. I'll keep them in mind. Getting sick of dealer rip off merchants. They should be ashamed to charge $10 for a piece of tiny plastic. Thanks
  8. I share your frustration Lance. For myself, I would purchase a spare light stalk assembly and swap it out. Shouldn't be all that expensive to buy and the DIY should be pretty straight forward. It's possible you may have dust, dirt or oxidised contacts which is playing havoc with the switching. If it's possible to somehow get in there with contact cleaner and give it a few squirts working the mechanism several times and see if that helps.
  9. I think that's the secret to the success of the catch can. The quality ones all seem to come with one. Now it makes sense. The oil vapour is virtually just going on a scenic route and winding up back into the inlet chamber. The tube won't work I think because of the pressure involved. The stainless steel wool would counteract this and allow the oil to seep through and remain at the bottom for collection.
  10. Ok, cool. I figured it may have been a typo. Is It possible your valve guides could be leaky ? Smoke on start up can be just that if the catch can is doing its job.For it to have used two litres of oil is very strange. Maybe that additive is doing some strange witchcraft in there..
  11. LOL of course. Where the bad fuel consumption will happen and having to use more throttle for the steep inclines. The 4's will have the foot pretty much flat and in a lower gear whereas the Aurion will pull effortlessly like a train with much less right foot application. What's the hurry anyway right ? plus it's good to have some mechanical sympathy. My brake pads tend to last much longer than other people I know primarily due to this and correct driving techniques.
  12. Glad to see everything is going well Ash. We have some amazing coastline and good to see your girlfriend is soaking it up. I'm guessing you meant "no" noticeable smoke. I suspect the oil treatment may have contributed to the leakage or bypass of the rings. Look forward to your update. Have a great day and stay safe
  13. Haha, I just realised the O.P's car is a 2007. I wonder if the 50 series uses the same clip arrangement. I'm afraid to pop mine out in case I break something and not being able to put it back without a replacement clip. I'll contact Toyota tomorrow and find out.
  14. Good idea mate, but it is a PITA job just to remove one cover let alone two and the back one will be difficult.
  15. Those are pretty good figures Ash. I'll be brave and even say that they are as good as diesel figures if not better. I would put money down that a Corolla or a Camry 4 couldn't achieve those results. Long live the Aurion !!
  16. ep. It's mineral oil and another funny thing is Toyota's claim to "lifetime fluid" Imagine NEVER changing the tranny fluid and relying on that advice ?? The Synthetic fluid is the best thing you can do for your transmission if you want it to shift nicely and last.
  17. My two Cents. There was no malice on ZZT86's part. If you've been around here long enough you'd most likely have known this. I understood his gag and that's pretty much the way it was intended. We don't have Ahole members here, which is refreshing and it's what I keep saying to others compared to other forums. You wanna see nasty, go to a few BMW forums. I enjoy being here, even if I didn't have my Toyota, I'd still chime in. It's all good Tommy
  18. Wow, that's a lot of oil Ashley. If it's not blowing smoke, where's it going ? How many kays did it take to consume that much ?
  19. Don't touch it. Take it back for warranty. It's not your problem to fix someone else's mistake. I suspect they may have over tightened the clamps.
  20. I suspect it's a one time use clip due to its design. If you have trouble removing it, I think it will most likely break during the removal process. It should be easier one would think. Just get some side cutters onto it. I've never had to remove mine but I did once on a recent model D-Max and the clips remained intact so the cover could be re attached. Probably best to contact your local Toyota Dealer and ask them. You may need to get replacement clips. While you're at it, get yourself a dozen if they're cheap enough and keep as spare. Let us know because I'm planning on replacing the driver's side A pillar cover as it's got a scratch that bothers me each time I get in.
  21. Ahh, I see now. You were referring to kick down of the gears when accelerating to overtake. I see what you mean. The better fuel meant the engine was able to propel the vehicle more freely and effortlessly without the need to drop it back a gear or two utilizing the improvement in torque whereas the lower grade fuel makes it labour that bit more.
  22. The highway run will give it a good shake up Ash. It will thank you later.
  23. I'm expecting good figure here Ashley. Our cars love the open highway. They just sing don't they..
