  1. I didn't pull the trigger Ash, but it was tempting. I have plenty for now. There will be more specials.
  2. Would you like to know if it's repairable or how to remove it ? If it's anything like the Aurion, you will need to remove the tail lights to gain access to some mounting screws. There are screws just inside the top section in the wheel well as well as across the bottom if memory serves me correctly. Also take a look inside the boot opening for more clips or screws. If you plan to repair it, it could be possible to pop it out using a heat gun first to soften the plastic and carefully pushing the dented sections out. Find yourself some metal tools that kind of fit the inner shape to help guide the depressions back out.
  3. Yep. Will do. I might give the borescope camera a try and see if I can get it inside the rocker cover for a better view. I almost forgot I had one lol..
  4. Yep, the old boat anchors were pretty crude back then. 20w-50 + STP featured a lot at our place
  5. "just when I thought I was out. They pull me back in" https://www.supercheapauto.com.au/p/nulon-nulon-full-synthetic-long-life-engine-oil-5w-30-5-litre/286594.html?cgid=7day-sale#main=&prefn1=srgBrand&prefv1=Nulon&j=4515480&sfmc_sub=822401467&sub=206595815_SCA01_CRP&l=333_HTML&u=93475431&mid=6010680&jb=1788&utm_source=email-subscriber&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=au-sca-2021-wk05-7dd&start=1
  6. Was it a case of a faulty MAF sensor or possibly one in need of cleaning ? I rarely hear of instances where the MAF is actually faulty. I've never tired, but I assume that if you unplug the MAF sensor, the engine should stall yes ?
  7. These are difficult unfortunately. You need to get in with a bright torch during the heavy rain to search around under the dash area. Windscreen seal could be compromised too. I'd also check door rubbers.
  8. I feel your pain. Nothing annoys me more than rattles, squeaks and other similar sounds that emanate. It doesn't have to be old either. I had an Isuzu D max and that car drove me crazy with the amount of dash rattles and squeaks. So much so, that I pulled half the dash apart to try and figure it out and still couldn't put my finger on it so I gave up and just put up with it. The rattles were coming from the bottom region of the A pillars. It was a total mystery. Another one was a vibration in the middle of the dash behind the display. It was like a metal ringing sound that would ring out when you hit a certain rev and being a diesel that was constant. It turned to be one missing screw holding the head unit in. So I found an M10 screw and that one was solved. Then there was another under the dash. Traced it to the metal A/C pipe plastic shielding. The plastic would vibrate over the pipe, so I put some refrigeration pipe insulation in there and that one was also solved. I could go on and on how many more rattles etc there were in that car. Thankfully, I don't have it anymore and my new company vehicle is a Colorado which is supremely better than the D-Max. The build quality of the D-Max is rubbish in my opinion. The Colorado runs rings around it. Very quiet and no rattles. Thank God !
  9. Some of you may know that I've been using the Nulon 5w-30 since my original purchase when the car had 40k on the ODO and it's up to 120k now. I've been very happy with the Nulon product and have zero sludging. I do my oil servicing close to 10k each time and everything seems fine. I have been purchasing my oil when they go on special and usually stock up and have some Nulon left which I will obviously use then going to switch over to Penrite for the zinc content. I'm no oil expert but from what others have been saying, the zinc content is a good thing to have so I'll go with that if it means a little bit more protection. I'm planning to keep my Aurion long term so I want to take good care of it as much as possible. If I get a chance this weekend I might do my 120k oil service and inspect the PCV ( as promised Nathan) 😁
  10. Haha, I get my brain zapped/erased every morning where I work at the Hospital so don't feel so bad mate.
  11. It was a ripper video. Actually enjoyed seeing the little Escort carve up the competition like that. Spa is an amazing racetrack too. I'd love to have a go there if it were possible.. I never imagined it would be like pulling teeth to get a simple part. When a vendor's vehicle compatibility guide shows that it fits your model, that should be the end of it. I only wonder how many others like myself had gone through the same thing. We just don't hear about it unless it's reported in a forum of some kind. Anyways, I have confidence in the Wesfil product and being very reasonably priced, I may just stick with it. As much as I love Genuine parts, Toyota are becoming a rip off for parts. I have saved them in my bookmarks and will use their site again. Thanks for providing their link. I'd never heard of them till now. Thank you
  12. Hello mate. My weekend was ok. We had too much rain so not much activity could be done outside. Don't worry, I'll try and get to the PCV as soon as I can. By the time wifey gets home ( It's her daily) through the week it's getting dark and it makes it hard to work outside. I'll make a mental note to do it this Saturday morning and post some pics up. Cheers mate
  13. Hmm, I wonder what it would be too. Do you have a GT falcon hidden away somewhere ? Cool song by the way, you can hear the Beach Boys influence in Jan & Dean's songs. Very cool stuff. I love the Beach Boys. Brian Wilson is a genius.
  14. You been moonlighting as a race car driver there Ashley ? 😁
  15. I don't think I've ever come across 0w-20 oil. Wow, that's sewing machine oil 🤣
  16. Wesfil/Cooper have their manufacturing plant in China, of course, as does everybody else. I would even hazard a guess and say Toyota may too in some part ? I had a look and it seems that Ryco and Wesfil are under the same company called GUD Holdings ltd. So it's unclear why they wouldn't manufacture and market this particular filter under the more known brand Ryco ? To be honest, I suspect they all come from the same factory anyway. The Wesfil/Cooper filter looks practically identical to the Ryco one I have so it's probably true. I just don't understand the stone walling coming from Ryco regarding ONE filter. Just ONE. Their must be some political reasons for this, who knows. It's just a ludicrous situation for what should be very simple. There's nothing special about a 50 series Aurion that would warrant a "special" filter and be so hard to make. Wesfil has made one it seems and Ryco being under the same banner as Wesfil are throwing out all this clap trap about design and copy restrictions rubbish. The design of the 50 series filter is the same or close to most other in tank filters, they just come in a slightly different shape and dimension, that's all, so there's nothing inherently difficult there. I appreciate your research ZZT86 ( don't know your name lol). The part numbers do help. I am also still in shock over Toyota's $1,600 fuel pump/sender assy. Man that's killer stuff. I recently had to replace the fuel pump/sender assy on my 99 M3 and although BMW had discontinued this part some time ago, the Vendor was able to track one down for me in Germany (Genuine OEM) and that cost me a tad under $1000 with shipping ! So what the heck are Toyota on about wanting $1,600 ?? I think it's cheaper to own a BMW these days lol.. It's also funny how partsouq told me that they don't have a listing for my filter even despite me giving them my VIN. You were able to find it no problem. Looks like I'm getting the short back and sides on this one
  17. Hey mate, sorry to hear your situation there. I really feel for you and hope things improve so you can get back to some normality. Although, Sydney isn't in a lock down as such, I choose not to go anywhere anyway so as not to put myself or my family at risk. This Covid thing really sucks. Who knows how long it's going to last. I appreciate that you went out of your way to contact the dealer. I had a very frustrating encounter with another Sydney Toyota dealer. Brace yourself for this one: ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ ME Hello, I'm having a hard time trying to get a fuel filter for my GSV-50 Aurion. Ryco don't make one for some very strange reason ( do you ?) and there is only one brand I found that do but it seems a little cheap and quality is unknown which leaves the Genuine Part. Does the fuel filter for the 50 come as an assembly, ie, pump, sender etc ? or does it come as a separate fuel filter which will require disassembly and reassembly of the original sender unit ?? Can you provide a Trade price for the part I require please ? Regards Tony DEALER G'day Tony. Yes they come in an assembly that includes the pump etc. Over $1600, we've never sold one. ME So how are the Toyota dealerships servicing the fuel systems on their Aurion ? Surely they would sell the fuel filter separately to the pump etc. It's ridiculous to suggest that in order to replace the fuel filter you'd have to replace the entire assembly. Can you take another look if you don't mind. Thanks DEALER I dont know sorry. I agree but I've doubled checked the part number. Might best best to touch base with your local dealers service dept & ask what they do. This was the extent of it. I didn't bother replying after this. Just threw my arms up and said " I give up" What the heck is going on with this ?? How hard is it to get a straight answer ?? Anyway my Wesfil/Cooper fuel filter arrived today and I must say It looks pretty decent quality and it cost $56 delivered. I have compared it to the Ryco one wrongly sent to me and they both look on par for quality. Below are the side by side comparison. The one on the left is the wrong part (meant for the ASV50 Camry) and the one on the right is what the Original Aurion 50 filter should look like. 40 series Aurion do have a different fuel delivery system to the 50 series, so the 40 series owners can rejoice and take comfort in the fact that they won't go through the same B.S. I'm having to go through just to replace a damn fuel filter. It's ludicrous. You can clearly see the short Vs Long filter sections. I suspect that Wesfil/Cooper has the monopoly to produce the 50 series filter. I may even consider a Genuine Part If I can get trade price it's $200. Would anyone else be crazy enough to pay that ? $1600 for a completed assembly. They can go jump. Not gonna happen. Funny how the rep mentions that they've never sold one. Yeah, no **** sherlock.
  18. I have received both sets of wipers and out of necessity I had to replace the wipers on my Aurion as mentioned earlier finding the locking tab broken on the longer arm. This meant putting the old one back on temporarily and it wasn't the best of condition but it had to do. I was going to put one set of beams on my Dad's car but he's driven off to Queensland with Mum for 3 weeks so that's not going to happen anymore. I decided to put the cheap set on to test first and the difference was immediate. The new beam blades are made of a special rubber/silicon formulation which enable the blade to glide over the glass effectively and quietly. I am impressed and this is a no name el cheapo set mind you. So it will be interesting to see how long these guys last. I'll just keep the more expensive trico set for the next change and monitor these for a while. https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/HOOK-Aero-Wiper-Blades-Pair-of-26inch-650mm-18inch-450mm/252241398551?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649 If anyone is interested.
  19. OMG !! I have never seen anything that bad. The car has 170K on it and I too wonder when it was last serviced. Can people really be that stupid ? Update: at 3:33 he mentions that the owner hasn't serviced it for 40K but that was when it read 135k on the service indicator so in fact it's more closer to last being serviced at 125k so that makes it ~45k. You were close Ash. Did you see the state of the oil filter ?? WOW !!!
  20. You're probably right there but damn it sure is at a greater risk to the consumer. I'd stick with what the local garage guy would say over the dealer any day. The dealer is a corporation with shareholders and they only care about money at the end of the day. I'd rather give my money to the small business owner if I had to have something done that's out of my league.
  21. I think if they did it would then make the consumer suspicious right ? Then this would undermine their strategy which puts the onus back onto the consumer if it does sludge up. They will use the catch cry of "it was due to the consumer negligence and that they should change their oil often" Hello !! Toyota themselves, including other manufacturers are advocating for LONGER service intervals. This in itself is the root cause for sludging potential is it not ?? The service book reflect this too. It's a shame they have stooped to this.
  22. I wasn't quoted a part number as such but rather I gave them my VIN and they messaged me the price only I've sent another dealer a message via Ebay, asking for full clarification. I'll let you know when I do.
  23. I'd have to get some clarification on that. I doubt it though as the assembly has the fuel pump fitted to it too. I can't see Toyota selling it as an assembly WITH the pump for the claimed $226 as quoted. Regardless, there would still be some level of disassembly and reassembly. I'll let you know. I did, however, order the Cooper fuel filter and this should be arriving today. I'll post up some pics when I can.
