  1. I tend to suffer from the same affliction from time to time too mate. I get it. I really do
  2. Loose wires create resistance and voltage drop.
  3. It is possible the alternator is going bad but did you also check your ground wire ?. You may have a loose ground some where.
  4. See if you can find out what the head unit is capable of. Your biggest enemy is impedance, not only through the speaker but also through the speaker cabling. Stock car amps aren't fancy fair so they like to keep it simple and yet give the impression of a nice sound. The higher the impedance speaker, the more power it will consume and the likelihood of over heating the amp is possible. I'd keep it stock with the 2 ohm speakers and find a decent quality speaker that fits the factory foot print and enjoy it. Depends on how loud you like it. I used to love loud music in my cars when I was a youth, but not so much these days. I'm very content with the stock radio.
  5. Yeah that seems a little unrealistic actually. I'd take it with a grain of salt anything I read that has wiki preceding it. I seriously don't know how they came up with that figure. Maybe it's based on those who don't maintain their cars at the level they should. Who knows ?? I can't see why a well maintained engine can't do one million kays. I recall a test performed by Mobil 1 some time back, don't have the link atm, where they simulated an engine running on a particular blend of Mobil 1 and it ran close to a million miles or kays (can't remember) and the insides were still as new, albeit with a slight golden sheen on the inside. Very impressive. I'll have to find the link and post back.
  6. Wow ! What an entrance Geoff. Hello and welcome to the Forum mate. I must say that I wasn't aware of any understeer issues associated with the 50 as I don't drive it hard. I pussy foot it around to quite honest so I don't degrade it prematurely. But It would be plausible with all that weight over the front axles for it to understeer. I did recently post up a thread to ask if anyone had done a poly bushing upgrade because I have noticed my left front wheel always goes out of whack and this tyre wears the edges out far more than the right. I then have to do the tyre swap dance, left to right, then eventually front to rear to maximise the life cycles. Usually two fronts to one set of rears. I do hear you though on the rear, being unweighted too has some definite peculiarity to it, especially when the tyres wear and get harder with age AND with the alignment always seemingly going off. I would definitely be interested in the kit. I could install it myself but then I'd have to take it to Gosford to have it adjusted and aligned. Gosford is quite a hike from Western Sydney. What sort of money are we looking at for this ? ( you can send me a p.m. if you like) Do you have more pics you can post up ?
  7. I think that would be very beneficial. I wasn't able to find a specific workshop manual for the 50 series Aurion but another member here, Mark, (mg85, thanks again) was kind enough to send me a CD rom of a 40 series manual which does help in the mechanical dept as they both share a lot mechanically.
  8. I have 4 x 6lt of the Penrite HPR 5w -30 in stock and will most likely transition to this after my current stock of Nulon is used. The importance of the Zinc content was brought to my attention some time back by our esteemed colleague, Ashley (campbeam) and so when SCA had these on special I purchased 4 and because they also come in a 6lt package. Perfect !
  9. Yep, and I dare say they aren't using virgin material. All that recycled rubbish and they want to keep gouging more money from us the mug public.
  10. Not a stupid question at all. I would hazard a guess and say that you may be able to find technical info like that in a workshop manual. I couldn't be sure or ask someone from Toyota service as they have access to all that technical data. As far as the fans varying speeds according to load, that would be a simple no. They aren't that sophisticated that they'd install a variable speed drive device. They are as analogue as they come with relays and switches. Just out of interest, why do you need to know such information ?
  11. I'm no oil expert but I think that's the operable word. Most of us either use the Nulon or Penrite brands. One, they are Australian made and two, they are excellent products. I've been using the Nulon product since my purchase from 40K on the ODO to present (~120K) and I do it every 10K without a hint of sludge in fact. I couldn't be sure how those with sludged up engines treat their cars but mine is very clean. If the 40w provides that litle bit extra during the punishment of the summer heat then I'm all for it too.
  12. We were referring to our own 2GR-FE Aurions. Plenty of members here, past and present have used Penrite 40 weight with no adverse affects. Here's what it states in my user manual for the 50 series Aurion. I'm sure it's the same for the 40 too.
  13. Yep, I saw that too Ash. Too bad I don't need one because it's hardly an item you want to buy and store on the shelf... Remember when you used to be able to get car batteries for $50 or less ?? Now $200 + ! Damn..
  14. Yep, It clearly states 202,500 then the following one is 210,000. They must have known that the 1MZ-FE was prone to sludge as is the 2GR-FE using inferior non synthetic oils. For what it's worth I never skimp on oil quality. I always use so called "fully synthetic" even if they won't tell you what it's actually made from. Oil threads can get volatile with the amount of mis-information and opinions, so as a rule of thumb, just follow what the manufacturer recommendations are, stick to this and you can't go wrong. Just don't use mineral oil lol... Enjoy your Avalon Tommy, they are a nice old car
  15. I think it would be prudent to do this during the winter cycle and then go to the 5w-40 during the hot season.
  16. Hi there, Could it be that the seat is just worn out and not offering the correct support ? I couldn't tell you if a later model Camry seat would bolt straight in, if this is the way you prefer to go, but doing this will make the car look odd in the way that seats not being original to the car. I'd go with what Ashley said and have the seat re done to suit you and yet retain the originality.
  17. Hi Terry and welcome to the forum. Unless you are within a metre of the car in front, I too would get annoyed if there was someone persistently behind my tail doing that, but if you can see the whole back of the car including the tyres then this is ok I guess. 3 car lengths at a traffic stop is excessive. If I left a gap like that you'd have two other Morons sneak in totally defeating the 3 car gap. I just leave enough room to be able to get out the way if the car in front can't get away or I need to make a lane departure. I suspect that woman was probably having a bad day or has no clue how to judge distances. I agree with what Ashley said too. The "mirror" sign on the back of trucks is very important. Always place yourself in a position where you can see the trucker's mirrors that way you won't get cleaned up as he's maneuvering.
  18. Thanks Warren. Kind of what I suspected even though I've never experienced the ride. How much firmer it makes it remains the mystery. I'd hate to ruin the supple ride of the Prodigy. But perhaps it's probably only minor. I'll keep looking into this. Cheers mate
  19. Hello Gents, As some of you may know, I own a 2012 Aurion and was wondering that at some point the suspension will need attention as it wears. I came across this listing on ebay for Nolathane bushed lower control arm: https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Nolathane-Front-Control-arm-lower-arm-for-Toyota-Aurion-Camry-GSV40R-50R-right/142966603379?fits=Model%3AAurion|Make%3AToyota&hash=item2149793e73:g:QOcAAOSwQ7$£%&$^£"%!$WSY My question would be this. Has anyone replaced their suspension components and opted for the Nolathane bushed items and if so, how much better or worse was it ? Would the ride be affected ? Will it help keep the wheel alignment more true for longer ? I find at the moment that my left front tends to go out of alignment a bit more than the right. Cheers
  20. Hi Matt, we have already spoken, but I'd also like to welcome you to the forum. You have a beauty. I noticed that Toyota toned down the Sportivo styling on the later models, which I much prefer. Not hating on the earlier styling, but I like the more conservative look. It doesn't look like it has to try too hard. I've never had an opportunity to drive the Sportivo version, but I have to imagine it is fun to drive no doubt. Take good care of it. Cheers
  21. Wow !! Looks like Gold Coast Toyota have a good moral compass compared to most. That is great news. I'm very happy for you. Something like that would really bother me. A huge shout out to Gold Coast Toyota. I holiday'd there in January and love the place. The people there are so friendly unlike the animals here in Sydney.
  22. Exactly. l always do the wheels and tyres first. For best results, I either use a general purpose cleaner or a non acidic wheel cleaner on the wheels and tyres before I even start on the rest of the car. This allows some dwell time while I'm preparing other things like the wash buckets, setting up the pressure cleaner, foam cannon etc. By this time I have my wheel / tyre cleaning bucket filled with suds and all my brushes ready and just go for it. Tyre dressings for me are a personal choice. I have used a few different types. The ones I like are the ones that last and don't sling all over the paintwork. Those are my main criteria. Cheap products can work as good as expensive products as I have found with the SCA tyre shine. This one really surprised me as I have always thought SCA was cheap and nasty by virtue of it being an in house brand. I was wrong. It lasts and lasts, even through rain and subsequent washes and doesn't sling. Not too bad for a cheapy. The money I save here, I put toward a high quality paint protection product.
  23. Hmmm, I'll have to check this out later in the day. I have three different sets I can test. I'll get back to you.
  24. I guess you're right there Ash. You think they'd let me do them up instead ? I'll take my torque wrench with me, along with my 'you beaut' wheel protector socket. Show them how it's done 'eh ? I too have felt the strain mate and I'm still doing ok in the strength dept. Not as strong as I used to be though and wheel nuts are my biggest bug bear. It's just so unnecessary.
